Cleaning little spots of oil

I've got a set of carbon fibre cans on my SV, and after a loong ride they've ended up with little spots of oil/tar/something black and sticky on them. They're only a millimetre in size (each spot), and if it wasn't for them being on other parts of the bike, I'd not even know they were there. However, I'm going to clean the whole thing as it looks pretty sad after a few hours riding in the rain, so I might as well clean the cans too. To remove any grease and oily crap, I'm planning on using a little kero on a rag.

Two questions though:

- Is it likely to eat the carbon fibre, or make the resin go mikly? (I'm not going to soak the damn thinks, just use a damp rag to take the spots off)

- Will if affect the paintwork on things like the engine cases or rearsets?


I'm guessing that's it's a no on both counts, but thought I'd ask...

Can't speak for carbon fibre and resins, but for the paint it will be sweet, just don't rub like mad!

i use bug and tar remover on my paint... works a treat!!!! (i think its kerosine based)
sold at repco in a green aerosol can. bout $9 from memory
thoroughly reccomend it.
hasnt effected the paint, so should be fine on anything else.

I use Calite or Fuelite from the servo its quite good for metal bits and chain lube splatter. I don't use it on plastic though.

I used to wash my ZZR with petrol (cup full of petrol and a paintbrush) But I'm a bit mad that way.

Now use degreaser like the rest of the sheep.

Good old butter gets tar off gently and effectively:yes: Just rub a little on the spot then wipe off with a clean rag and Bob's yer uncle:blip:

me too on my SV, ali cans and a shit to clean no matter what I use.

Ive just cleaned up a carbon fibre bonet on a cage-- I used 2 way thinners to get the tar off. then a cutting polish to get the carbon fibre to really shine
