need urgently - large allen key

Just taken my forks out and i need to take the axle out so i can change the fork seals. So i am in desperate need of a size 19(+/- 1) allen key so i can get the axle out. Im gonna look around for bolts to try and get around it, but if you are in AUCKLAND and can help me out either tonight, or tomorrow morning please txt me on 0272532246.

p.s its a 1999 R6, i'm assuming there is some special workshop tool because 19mm is a pretty fucking big allen key!

Buy a 19mm nut, and weld an old socket extension on it. Works a treat, and if you're working on right way up forks, you can put a nice long extension for forks that need it :)

oh and try gettin a socket to get off some rear tires! They can be massive, had to use a truck socket from a tire place once, a MV is like 54mm? or something

shops arent open on a weekend otherwise it would be easy. My mate that works in metal shop would help me out, but he's gonna be coma'd from about 1am til 2pm tomorrow so thats not much help :wait:

I couldn't find a 12 anywhere, except for mitre 10 mega, but it would cost you. Cost me about $38 :gob:

Well i've got a really sore hand but i managed to find a nut fat enough to give me some leverage with a spanner and managed to undo it. Thanks for the response though guys. Next time i'll think it through fully and read the manual BEFORE doing the job :yes: :stupid:

You could try using a 12mm bolt..long one. Lock two nuts at the end(real tight)..fit it in a 19mm socket and use that as an allen key...might work

Square drive (i.e. 3/8 or 1/2 socket set handles) hex bits are available in large sizes (used on some european cars) - Repco have some reasonably priced ones.

You can get hex head socket bits from Waitemata Hydraulics in henderson. Probably other places too I guess.
I've got this one (it actually belongs to Mr. Skid...) but unfortunately for you it's a 17mm.


Are you going to use a rattlegun to get the forks apart? If you're making up a 19mm allen key for the socket, maybe you should try to figure out if you can make up a tool to stick in the fork and undo the inside bit from the outside bit.
I dunno how they are on an R6, but on the Zeal and I think on the bandit it looks like they have a socket type fitting inside the fork that could also use a big allen key type thing (more likely a nut welded to a rod?) to undo.

Any exhaust shop could weld the nut to the extension in 2 seconds :)

dude if ya have the 19 mill nut" put the bolt into it tighten it up, then stick it in the axel" ya can use the bolt with a cresent to undo it--(does this make sense) i did it last week on me gix, you dont need to weld anything, i think its a 19 as well im in east auckland , you can pick it up if ya want-- let me know and i wil check the size

Glad you got it out, but if you need anything like these we sell them up to I think 22mm. Sold a couple in-hex impact sockets recently for this job. PM me for more info.

i did the same thing when changing the front break. just got a big bolt, put a bunch of nuts on it, then used a socket.

yeh, i found one nut but it wasnt thick enough to be in the hole and have tension from a socket/spanner at the same time, then i found one just over twice and thick and it did the job really well.

Got a few tools in mind that im gonna pick up so i have them for next time, because there WILL be a next time with the way that i do wheelies :yes:

Took far too long to do the whole job, but now that i know how it all works i reckon i could do it in a few hours rather than the 8 or so it took me :gob: Thats what happens though when you are unprepared and hadnt thought through most of it. But at the end of it it's actually a reletively easy job!
