View Full Version : Watching my back...

I was hanging out big time for a ride after a hard week at the funhouse. So after supporting the kids at soccer this AM - I got on the bike and decided to head down to the Tron.

Cruising along the Southern MW my bike died on me on the hill leading up to the Bombay off ramp. I stopped on the side and tried a few times to get it going...but to no avail. I had no idea what was wrong so decided to ring the guys at Mt Eden Motorcycles to see if they could arrange for someone to come and pick the bike up.

I waited for about 10 mins before I heard someone call out to me and turned around to see one of the mechanics from Mt Eden Motorcycles ask me if I was alright. At first I thought 'Shit thats was quick' but Matt was on his way to Te Awamutu and saw me on the side of the road and stopped. (Amazing coincidence!). Matt sorted the problem (fuel pump sucking air) and told me to meet him at the Caltex in Bombay to put some gas in. As I was getting ready to head up to the gas station 2 guys in a VN Commodore pulled over and asked me if I was alright also.

Its possible that most if not all of you have experienced this "2 wheeled samaritanism" (dont know if thats a word) to some degree or another but I was blown away to know that 3 guys were watching my back on a busy road in the pouring rain.

Thanks for the help today guys! Its great to know its there when you need it.

I pulled a mean three lane near rolling stoppie to see if a guy needed a hand once as he had also pulled over rather suddenly.........then he pulls out his phone sees me points to the phone and thanks me for stopping... I ride off happy that my good dead for the day was a freebie

Yeh I stopped for a guy once... was like midnight and pretty chilly... all of a sudden I see this guy slow on the other side of the road and stop for no apparent reason.

Turned out his bike had run out of gas, but he didn't know about the reserve switch. Flicked it to reserve, started the bike, and wished him on his way.

Really simple fix, took me a minute tops, but he'd have been pushing that bike for half hour if I hadn't stopped.

Two people stopped and helped me on Dominion Rd in rush hour when my car burnt down, they also had fire extinguishers.

There are some good souls out there:innocent:

If you're low fuel light comes on and you still have lots of fuel in your tank. STOP AND CHECK you may have a dangerous fuel leak.
