View Full Version : Who here is a BRONZ member?

Just wondering how many KBers are also BRONZ members? It seems to me that this is the only organisation in NZ actually pursuing and standing up for bikers rights.

I was a member of BRONZ Otago (will rejoin), but mostly for the social aspect. They organise a shit hot rally in Alexander every Feb.

Any views?

The Wellington branch closed through apathy, backbiting, and general stupidity.

The Auckland branch currently has no Chair due to dissension in the ranks.

I think Ulysesses would be a better lobby group than BRONZ.

I'm only gonna join so I can be a junior member of an organisation. Probably my last chance.

Havn't got around to it yet. They have good articles in the KR bike mag. May be time to get serious about our rights ie lane splitting, still too much confusion out there as to what is allowed or not by the revenue gatherers and riders :scooter:

Never been in BRONZ but showing my age I will be a real Ulyssian soon, having been a junior for almost a decade. Ulysses certainly have done good work with ACC to try and keep our levies down.

no bronz in tauranga, done enough work for uylsses tauranga for the past 4 years, do more than most of there members, that i am a offical member of tauranga club even tho there is another 15 years before i can join.

I go on the bronz toy run in auckland every year(apart from last year) for the past 9 years

But no clubs, we have enough of a club with just the family, 6 bikers, pretty much all on sports bikes

"Bikers' rights" starts with each of us individually. We have here at our fingertips a forum where issues that concern us are kicked around and discussed at length. We don't always agree but that's what democracy should be about. But I venture to suggest that we are a pretty representative sample of the universe that is New Zealand motorcyclists!

All that is required is a bit of presiding intellect to coordinate what KiwiBiker members think and make representations to decision-makers on our behalf.

All power to us!

Looking pretty unamimous so far (obviously subject to Mr H's willingness). Could someone set up a pole so the next two pages of this thread are then same. :D

btw that was an aye from me too.

I'm also sure we could do a whiparound when requried so to share the associated burden of cost.

White trash, I've been a member for a few years now, good bunch of rider and yep, grouse rally each Waitangi weekend at AlexanDRA (being pedantic here), this years was 20th at that site.

They do a lot of unrecognised work and are wll worth joining, it's in your best interest as a m/c rider :ride:

Yeah I was there this year. me and four other bikes road down to AlexanDRA on the Friday, partied REAL hard then road home Sunday.

My cousin, Russell, was the little prick celebrating his 21st getting dragged on stage and what-not.

Bloody good weekend. We'll have to meet next year

When I last posted I didn't think that I was volunteering for anything, but I am humbled by your endorsements!

If we are going to use this KiwiBiker site as a way of co-ordinating biker advocacy issues, then there is a bit of thinking and planning that needs to be done.

A useful first step would be to compile an issues register of matters that we feel strongly about, particularly those that involve regulation by central and local government. We then need to do a prioritisation exercise to determine the ones that we not only feel the most strongly about but also the ones where we believe we stand a good chance of influencing opinions.

We also need to keep our eyes and ears open regarding pending legislation or regulation that we believe runs counter to the interests of or discriminates unfairly against bikers.

Our objective should be to present a credible and reasoned voice to decision makers and opinion formers.

And there's a whole bunch of other stuff we could usefully do as well.

Sounds like some worthwhile fun, and I'm happy to throw my shoulder against the wheel!

Yep, catch up with you next year or at the Pissed Penguin at Kaka Point in Sptember.

My weekend was a bit like yours except I had my 13 year old son at his first rally so I pulled the reins back a little on the partying! Road off on the Sunday to Nelson (well, stopped at Geraldine and Hanmer Springs on the way). Me&Mrs Scumdog got a real wet arse from Nelson to Amberley on the way home a few days later - (that was the week when Picton got flooded out).

One that should be easy to convince the government is allowing bikes to use bus lanes whereever a bus lane is posted..... ie transit NZ buslanes, thus when the victory is won, the next battle will be ever so slightly easier :niceone:

How about a poll to see how many members think enough about their riding to join BRONZ?
It doesn't cost THAT much and united we can make valid representation to govt on vital aspect of motorcycling.
I haven't been to a BRONZ meeting for yonks but still support them, pay my sub :D and recommend others do the same. :D

BRONZ is a pretty inconspicuous organisation. The column contributed to Kiwirider or BRM (can never remember which) is a pretty limp effort generally and certainly does nothing to inspire me to join.

it seems to me that the older generation are taking to their bikes in numbers however if you havent riden for a number of years and licences have lapsed what a hassle to get a full licence.i hold licences for car, truck & trailer ,self laying tracks, heavy wheels &rollers, and used to ride bikes.first i got to ride a bike with 250cc or less,i havent got one and dont want to ride a 250.next you got to attend a motorcycle handling course.the funny thing was that all the guys i did the course with owned and rode bikes of an average of 750cc and higher and were only doing the course because the fines for riding without a license were getting expensive.we all loaned a 50cc bike from the local bike shop what a laugh watching seasoned riders on the little 50   so we now put our L plates onto our triumph bonny 750 and were all legal.yer right still have to pay more for licencing and avoid the law for another 12 months. what bullshit.
