View Full Version : Getting old

Decided to give in to my advancing years and sell the RF.
And buy a nice comfy, middle-aged bike, something like a Bandit. In fact, it is a Bandit.
Bloody hell, it's got some grunt though. Accelerated into a gap in traffic and nearly collected the car in front, instant torque. And it's good to sit up nice and high and see for miles.
Getting a new toy is always good too. It only cost x dollars and a new sewing machine.

Congrats on the new bike.
Nothin wrong with a Bandit.

Congratulations, Lou!

IMHO the Bandit is a far superior bike to an RF anyway. Good choice

We'll see you at Motoracers stunt day then?

The bandit is a primo bike we have a 600 one at home it was the play toy before the gsxr600.

The only problem we have ever found with them is the seat, that is the bike seat we modify the most of at our father in laws business, there is like 1 every 2 weeks at least we modify. suzuki just about have it right but the seat lets it down

Based on Lou's comment about grunt I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a 12.

Of course, owning a B12, Lou is now obligated to start stunting.

Hey what do ya do to modify the seat.
Im riding one ant the moment and the seat height thing is a total pain in the arse

Cajun
6th May 2004, 13:35
pretty much cut some of the seat out, to a hight you like(we put a bit more foam in cause the foam on those seats is to soft which over time makes it hard, you put hard foam in which means you don't go thru it) then we put a nice cover on it, we done tons of them, one of the best ways of doing it, is coming down with ya bike and we modify the foam to your a$$ and height.

and go from there, to cover how you want it, you can look at www.trimit.co.nz or if ya want i can email you some pics of some of the bandit seats we have done.

Only the latest model Bandit would rate as better than the RF. The early models have way too much frame flex.

Anyway Lou, welcome to the world of the grunty 1200!

Not wishing to appear a smart arse, mr H but I beg to differ.

To my knowledge, the "flexing" you reffer to was, I believe, to be caused by shit rear suspension. Johann "Peoples hero" Bruns succesfully eliminated what we all thought was frame flexing by replacing the shock with a Works Performance unit and some 1 inch "jack up" linkages in the rear.

After that, the boy gave me an absolute hiding around Manfeild on my GSXR750W.

I stand corrected, WT.

Bugger getting old on a Bandit! Suppose the next step will be sticking on flat Renthal bars, a race can and some trick bits to turn it into a mean street fighter!

Good on ya!

I went in to buy a Bandit 1200 , came out with a TL1000 , have not regreted it for a moment , and I am a little middle aged too. Nice bike the Bandits but just because you are bit older dont give up on the sports bikes.

The old thing was a bit tongue in cheek. You're only as old as the woman you feel.
Now I'll have to do something about those stunning........... sorry, cunning stunts.

Nice one, Lou!
:2thumbsup

BTW my old GSX1200 was basically a Bandit with a few minor changes. The motor is essentially the same but with even more low down grunt at the expense of top-end performance. Not the most up to date engine design but solid and reliable and goes on for ever.

Well done getting a Bandit. I've had mine since December 1998. Love the thing although it has gone through some changes since then. There are lots of cheap fixes for the bike to improve braking, handling, comfort and performance. If you want any advice, I'd be happy to assist.

There is a couple of things, I've heard that RF9 or GSXR 1100 shocks are a good swap. It's got a scorpion can and runs a bit lumpy off idle, is this normal?

I always liked the Italian version:
Q. What's shagging a fat woman and riding a Vespa got in common?
A. Both fun so long as your mates don't see you.
The Brits of course would shag a fat woman while riding the Vespa and turn it into a new form of national stunting.

Yes and then the Australians, Kiwi's and South Africans would beat us at our own game, as usual......................

Now I know why they call Bandits hooligan bikes. Went up SH16 to Mangawhai today, haven't had this much fun for ages. The bloody thing just makes you take liberties, throwing it around like a fat dirt bike, I'm in love.
Even chased a sport bike through the twisties, but 160 km/h plus through a known cop haunt was a bit brave on his part.

Best comeback to that is "yeah we shag sheep, we are given one every year after we reach puberty, "for practice", then when we've finished we export the meat to Australia"......... :Punk:

600 Fazer`s like that, stuff all but the latest 600 Supersports in the mid-range where it`s most useful on the road and has R1 brakes that are superb,it`ll probably have to go pretty soon though because my self-control kind off goes out of the window and being a fellow old fart chasing Subarus at my age just aint dignified, usually get to way,way over the speed limit then they realise that you`re still right behind them and you can almost hear the farting noise as the ego deflates rapidly.Almost without fail they`ll pull off at the next turning after you`ve gone by.Dunno why people buy those crappy things with all the spoilers and shit, surely stuffing a sock down the front of your strides is a lot cheaper and no less convincing.New Fazer by the way is nowhere near as good as the old one,if you get the chance try one of those do it,not the best-selling bike in Europe for years for nothing.Shame they`re so bastard ugly.
