hi
i have been on my learners for 3 years now.....i know this is along time but yeah im a little lazy.
i went to pass right to see about taking my restricted test and was told by them to take the test thru the AA as it is easier and cheaper ( nice of them) also they have told me that i can do a course to shorten my restricted time and also elimitnate the full test eg: when the restricted time is up i can just go in and pay for my full.
also i have been told by a biker mate that when i turn 25 (which is in a few months) i can go straight from my learners to my full.

what i would like to know is how much of this is true and what else could i do to shorten the time.
also what is a cbta test?

PS: yeah i know i have been slack being on my learners for 3 years

Alas, almost none of it.

You must sit the practical test for the restricted.

Then you must wait for 18 months if under 25, 6 months if over. If you attend and pass an approved defensive driving course, these times are reduced to 12 months and 3 months. Note that if under 25 the course must not be completed until AFTER you have held your restricted for at least six months.

Then after this time has elapsed you must sit and pass the full practical test.

The CBTA course previously offered a "fast track" process under certain conditions. But this is no longer available.

There are no "short cuts" such as you have been told. It is never possible (even under the CBTA regime ) to go straight fro m learners to full

Hmmm, long story but unfortunate choice of screen names.

They are still offering 'fast track' licences down here. Maybe it's old advertising.

Yes I notice that a number of the course providers have not updated their websites.

As far as I am aware the CBTA course has been discontinued by LTSA. If anyone knows any different on this, details (up to date please) would be welcomed by many people.

I believe the last courses were in December 2005.

If it makes you feel any better I sat on my learners licence for 16 years. The govt. made several amendments to the penalties for breaching graduated licence conditions over the years, to the point where it actually sucks big kahuna's to get caught breaching these days. Initially if you were on a learners riding a >250cc bike and mr ploddy got ya, they called you a naughty boy and extended the term of that licence period - big deal. It's clever how they dont publicise changes in law if it's to their profit isn't it?

Over 25 and you still have to do your restricted but for only 6 months not 12 or 18 (sorry cant remember which). It can be shortened by doing a course to 3 months. I looked all over this too. Good Luck and welcome!
