Old....
I'm OLD, real old....
So fuckin old I can remember wetting myself crouched around the first TV in the district scared shitless over the Daleks! In Black and White before that became a racial issue...
What I learned is, there is good, and there is bad. In between is a lot of other stuff that is nearly always a waste of time!!
Lately, this site and the mods have ahad a hammering. A hammering from the young and rash of voice. My advice? Pull your heads in, bury your personal feelings and give thanks to the people that make this thing called KB happen! If you cause controversy (sorry, drunk) deliberately, for shame...
Never have us bikers had such a chance, never have we had such a voice. Destroy it? You won't get a second chance you idiots... Youth? So wasted on the young....
If you want to really live, give a bit OK...
OK.. Off to bed!

You wet yourself? HA!! LOL
KB rocks, and all should uphold the values of respect, and arguement, like yin and yang, black and white, noodles and rice.
Thanks to Mods, good on y'all.
And youth ain't so bad, depends how you work it.
Edit: Black and white TV, we had one of them when I was a chiddler... go Blake 7!! or mebbe we were poor...
come to think of it, I had a crystal radio too... hmmmm
Oddly, it ain't youff making the aggro, they're all over in LOTPIHGAD. Only sane place to be at the moment.
And black and white TV doesn't classify you as old. To classify as old you have to remember huddling over the big oak HMV radio listening to Life with Dexter.

I just had this conversation with another and I hope I've had as much goodtimes and bad as some of you guys have when or if I get to that age. I'll take a quoe from that conversation and relate it here...
I read a story in a bike book the other day ,about the old days and that was 10yrs after my time!!

And crank handle telephones and party lines! PLease! I don't need to be reminded how old I am, I've just been to the gym with my 30 year old son and my 28 year old (nearly) son-in-law and my youngest (21) daughter. On the way there I texted my eldest daughter who's been to Plunket today with my Grandson! Believe me, I know how old I am! (But being older does have advantages....:blip:
Thought you were going to bed Paul.... Did you forget? Alzheimers?

Ahahaha... My Ma told me that the Daleks used to give me the heebee jeebies, I was 5, and yup, they were black and white... Heh heh... "exterminate... EXTERMINATE" .... Hahahahah... And I'm drunk... hahahaha... We must be evil twins... Evil TAKING THE WORLD OVER TWINS !!! Mwahahahah...
Inside voice Sedge... use the inside voice.
:nya: Oh no Ixion! And Gunsmoke too! We played on the road and yards, mothers would yell for us to come home...and all the Dads could whistle, everyone knew their own fathers whistle, and we all went in to listen to Life With Dexter on the radio. We had a car, pretty flash in those days - a lot of kids fathers rode a push bike to work.Mum walked to the shops and bought her groceries, then walked home again - then everything was delivered, the groceries in the grocery van,the butcher too,the greengrocer came around with a truck, coal was delivered in sacks.....city kid eh? Anyone who got a TV got every kid in the street for the evening too.
I logged on to this site a couple of days ago,and for the first time never opened a single thread, there was nothing here to interest me.But bugger me,today was a bit of a turnaround! I'm with Paul - wow, what a dream this internet is,to talk about bikes with people from all over the world....to talk about bikes with people I don't know, but we might have stood side by side at a race meeting 10 yrs ago and never knew it....everyone gets a chance to express their opinion...sigh.
Utopia is not quite what I dreamed of as a hippy...just little bits here and there - it'd be a pity to wreck something nice like a vandal or grafitti artist....but I guess they enjoy the destruction....

but yeh, agree with the rest, we should stick together and help each other. Thats what bikers do right?

Not quite as old as me, I'll warrant:angry: Daleks in B&W most certainly but what about Quatermass in B&W??? When they discovered the alien spaceship in Quatermass and the Pit, I couldn't see anything as my jersey was pulled right over my head:shutup:
Sigh.....

I remember jersey's. Not like the machined thin useless thngs they have now, but the ones my Nana made. With wool almost straight from the sheep. Those things were so thick you could go out in a blizzard with just one of those on and stay warm!

That’s true too, my nana did the same thing. We had the odd black sheep on the farm, we shore them, washed the wool, combed it, and nana spun and knitted the jersey. I still have a few of those today, great on the bike. Now, those are real jerseys.

Re: the site, The trouble makers here will never pull their heads in, the gutless will still abuse and swear at other users from the anonymity and safety of their monitor and deliberately send decent threads off topic, yes sometimes I wind these KBer's up where as I should just shut up, but fik em they don't scare me.
Now unfortunately some of the problem lies with the Boss, as from what I know hes not into sensorship, and as hes the boss so be it, but if some members were shut down for good then the likes of you Paul wouln't find ya self losing interest.

A guy down our street was a radio ham and built his own TV set and when the atmospheric conditions were right he could pick up a ghosted picture from Australia, used to have a whole street full of kids in his radio shack. I am so old I was a milk monitor at school, got the milk while it was still cold before the sun got at it
Hey, I was a milk monitor too. Used to get it straight out of the little shed when the truck delivered it, with the condensation stil over the bottles. Hated it once it had gotten all warm sitting in a classroom for hours.
*AND* I was an inkwell monitor too.Used to fill the inkwells in the desks from the big inkjug in the cupboard each morning . Now *thats* old.

We used to dream of getting to the milk while it was still cold...never did tho. Put me off milk for life, that did.
I'm too busy to read all the threads and had been away on a 2 week holiday devoid of computers and TV so hadn't caught up with much. What I have read, if I think its crap I don't worry about it, so people can say what they like as far as I'm concerned so I'm not into censorship either.
Enjoy your biking team, that's what I do, even though I'm slightly older than Paul, I think.
Enjoy the site and the communication it brings - have fun!

Ditto on the milk! And remember when ball-point pens were invented, they were banned from the classroom as they were'nt considered "proper writing implements". We learned to write properly with "Dip pens".!

Hey we used to fight over being the "bell" ringer and we used to get a hiding (six on each hand) for winding the cord all up around the bell shaft!
It was worth it cause you were a hero in the school till the next one stuffed it up, then you were old news.
Another adventure was broadsiding the old school piano (on steel wheels) around the wooden corridors of the school! Got six and detention for that one.
Only hurt for a little while but bugger detetion while everyone else was playing footy. John.

I was born in 1953,and have all the little Coronation souviners.I was going to be named Phillip after the dashing Prince - but my cousin was born 5 days earlier and snatched the prize.
School milk...yuk!! We would all line up and scull down the sour milk...and someone always threw up,then the mop and bucket would come out and replace the spew smell with Detol smell.I'm left handed, and the ball point was a gift from heaven - we went from pencil to fountain pen and my books turned into a frightfull mess...I would have to blot each word.
So,when did you start wearing shoes??
... and standing up before it [movie] started for "God save the Queen".
I can j u s t remember doing that as a toddler.

I guess what I was getting at was....
The internet, this site and others have changed the world. I belong to a global Moto Guzzi community of thousand that I can plug into for any little issue and get millions of kilometers of advice. I can order parts from the middle of the USA and they arrive at Kapait 3 days later. I was having a little wiring issue with my 1970 TR6C, the diagrams are not in the manuals, its a pretty rare model, and a week later, a set of diagrams turn up at my place from the UK via the Triumph Twins Yahoo group.
Suddenly owning a funny old bike with no local dealer becomes a pleasure and a hell of a lot easier. How long would it have taken me to figure our a simple wiring mod (30c) would fix my intermittent 'non start' problem with out this?
The internet... Wonderful thing.
Now, all motorcyclists can talk to each other and there is a chance for all of us to unify, fight for rights etc etc. Things beyond my imagining a mere 10 years ago and not what I imagined the very first time I sat down in front of a terminal for the first time in the 80's..
And yet.... We can't help ourselves can we.
We have a need to take this wonder and use it to belittle, to hurt and to make ourselves large in our own eyes. At last we can posture and puff without the posibility of physical hurt. The weak of heart can become tigers in cyberspace and at last, say what they want.. Or can we?
Manners and the rule of law protect the weak and our forefathers vision was a society that was fair to all. What I believe in is this, self restraint, good manners and fair play will make us stronger. Back biting and anger will destroy us all.
Lets not let the bad people win. The internet should not be allowed to undo a 1000 years of progress. We are better than that!! So lets sharpen up our act and lets all try to contribute more and suck up less...

You're a legend Paul. That's it isn't it? When we pull together we are strong, when we are divided and self centred we are weak and easily undone. Times they are a changing.
I was telling my kids the other day about the huge handfuls of lollies yyou could get for 20 cents! It was said in another thread ("born before 1980"?) - We used to ride where we liked on our bikes and get home at dark after being out the whole day - no-one was too upset. We dared each to do stupid things got cut, burnt, grazed and bruised. We were fit andf strong (generally - or at least we thought we were) Hell we were the kings (and queens) of the world!

Dick Barton, Special Agent. 5.45 til 6pm five nights a week. No, not on tv. that was still experimental in 1944. ITMA. Much Binding in the Marsh. Top comedy radio programs in the war years. Didn't see a tv until the early 1950s and that was in the window of a local furniture shop. Spent a lot of cold nights eating fish and chips and wishing they'd turn the sound up. After a few weeks they turned it off when the shop closed. Probably fed up of cleaning the grease off the windows.
Made a lot of good mates through bikes in the fifties. Still keep in touch and a few are still riding. In those days if you had a problem with somebody you sorted it face to face and it was forgotten the day after, no hiding behind nom de plumes and posting agressive messages on public forums. The computer is a useful tool when used wisely but after reading some of the stuff posted over the last few days I'm beginning to wish it could be uninvented or at least come with a handbook on common sense and manners.
PS Still reckon 'Quatermass' was one of the best science fiction series ever, even if it was in black and white.
