I know that this issue has been raised before, but I am amazed by the behaviour of some of the TradeMe traders. I was bidding on a $1 reserve 86 HONDA VF1000-II. I was prepared to bid up to $1,700/- and in the last few minutes there was fast and fierce bidding between between a second bidder and myself. I eventually bailed at $1,700 and the auction ran to completion $8 higher. Within seconds of the auction closing I was offered the bike at $2,500!!!! I rejected and within minutes the bike was re-listed at $2,100 with a buy now of $3,000. When other trader made comments on the auction about this they were dished out all sorts of verbal abuse by the seller. Have a look at

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=55793478

The original action was at

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=54846180

I posted a question to the seller in the new auction about the shady practice and they posted a question in one of the auctions I am currently running stating

“you should really mind your business you silly old man,il have you know the winning bidder pulled out of the sale because of the high k's so why dont you go find a little girl or boy to play with you stupid old fart dont stick your nose in when you dont even know what went on.you had nothing to do with the sale or purchase at all.now you have pissed off my husband he will be paying you a visit and trust me you dont want that posted by: rza82007 (12 ) 12:17 pm, Sun 7 May”

I have reported the new auction to TradeMe as being dodgy but I am not sure if they will pull it. I wonder when this primate first learned to walk upright. :brick:

Uncommon to be this bad, but there are a few out there. Perhaps could pass to police as well? They are apparently interested in e-bullying.

Feedback on the seller is only 75%, which is pretty bad. Plus a LOT of "not completed" auctions. Sounds dead dodgy.

And I see the high bidder in the "original" auction says the seller did not respond at all before relisting. So claims about the high bidder "not wanting it" are a lie.

He never had any intention of honouring the reserve. It was just a scam

I've bought a number of vehicles on Trademe, with excellent results. My first rule is if ANYTHING feels wrong, walk away. There'll always be another one.

I wouldn't trade with that person, and I doubt you could place any reliance whatsoever on the statements of vehicle condition. It is also said to e unregistered , which rings an alarm bell in this case, I wonder if it could be stolen.

I'm with Ixion on this one.
Feedback look very dodgy.
I'd rather have my hands still on my $1700 than waiting for this con to make good any promises.

Good on you for flagging it up with Trade-Me, Hope they can flush out "richard181" and other bogus bidders!

I don't even venture near Trademe mainly because I just don't understand the mechanics of it.
Now that it's not privately owned by a NZ businessman (who at least seemed to be "personally accountable") I have even less confidence in approaching it.
Really showing my age here with my resistance to new things I suppose. :( John.

Anyone who trades with someone with that much bad feedback is taking their chances. Lol the last auction they didnt pay for was for a bunch of hydroponic gear.. wonder what they're growing at their place!

I have bought two bikes and a horse float threough Trademe. All went well and no problems anywhere. However when you look at the original listing, the amount of negative feedback on higher priced items would raise some serious about the seller.

I've noticed a number of auctions lately that have meet reserve when finished, and then later been offered to me at a higher price. How can that be?? If it meet reserve they should not have the option to offer it again to the watchers???

7th May 2006, 15:32
Something that really pisses me off is people who withdraw auctions before they've finished AFTER they have met the reserve, just so they can sell it quicker to someone else, MEANWHILE you are making a comittment to that auction and missing out on others while you wait for it to finish, leaving you thinking what the hell is the point? :slap:

Trade-me would be better if users had more accountability.

unfortunately trade-me doesnt have enough security in place when you register so you are always going to get incidents like this.

TBH I will always stick with ebay, you kinda know where you are with them, and its self policed by registered members, so you dont get these incidents.

And yes I know, ebay isnt used much in NZ, maybe its worth using more.

I have traded heaps on TradeMe before (little bits and pieces right up to cars), but have never seen this sort of behaviour. I did report this to TradeMe and it will be very interesting to see if the new foreign owners give a shit.

Nah mate, I woudn't even bother with people like this aye.

We sometimes get drifted away with bargains but go with your gut feelings. It's actually sometimes better to pay a grand or 2 extra to avoid hassle.

She seems way to dogey to bother with it aye, I mean it could be anything, stolen bike, unhappy wife and problems with the hubby so she decides to put everything on the net when he's not there or anything else.

Plus she's got 6 or 7 negative feedback, I think that should be enough hint. Good luck!

that seller is full of shit, he claims the buyer in the original auction didn't follow through due to the high km, but then the original buyer has posted negative feedback on the seller, saying that the seller never made contact, which i would be inclined to believe going on the quick relist and the much higher asking price - what a tosser, you better watch out her husband might be one of those big tough biker dudes and he'll come round to your house in all his leather and chains

I always go on feedback when deciding to bid or are serious about buying something off TM.
This person sounds bad news from the feedback.
Fortunately the 4 bikes I've brought on TM, all of the sellers have been bloody good people.
As for making threats of violence....you gotta laugh at fuckwits who do that on the internet.

Bloody feedback!! I 've just red repped a guy as I'm still waiting for the parts, which i paid for over 3 weeks ago, he didnt reply to my emails, and I got a reminder from Trade Me about posting feedback for the auction. He's already given me good feedback as I paid straight away etc. Since I've given him red, hes gone and changed his feedback and given me red, his reason is because I gave him red! WTF?
Heres the guy feedback! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Feedback.aspx?member=590334

I've since emailed him and he claims he sent it last Wednesday on Courier Post, I've asked for a ticket number to try and trace, no ticket number offered. Also another guy bought some RGV carb bits and he hasnt received his stuff either, he might be genuine, but doesnt seem right he can try and blackmail me by saying he'll change the feedback if I change mine if/when goods are recieved. Wonder if its worth reporting to Trade Me about this?

My rule of thumb no matter how big the dollar value check feedback first before bidding, and if they answer questions from bidders sounding like a 11yr your asking for trouble.

Very dodgy looking.

I also filed a complaint with trademe pointout out the offensive langauge / threats etc, the fact they claim the buyer didnt want it and relisted it , but have been negative feedbacked by him for not contacting him before they relisted it, and the fact they have a shitlaod of bad feedback / incomplete sales makes it all look very suspect.

Rina LOVE is her name... (going by feedback, so wouldn't be too hard to track...) If threats made, unsure how cops could handle it as there is no way they can carry out the threat? (Unless they know where you live/work etc...and if they do, makea complaint!)

Bought my bike off trade-me and everything went fine.

My rule of thumb is only buy things locally and don't send the cash. I go round to pay and pick-up the stuff and if it looks dodgy I can leave before handing out my cash.

I've seen people selling stuff on trade-me make claims about contract of sale said no refunds/returns. This isn't legal as all sales must comply with the fair trading act and consumer gurantees act. If someone is dodgy track them down and get the cops onto them.

Thats a common misconception, sorry: FTA and CGA do not apply to a private sale. Consumer protection legislation such as this is only between a person "in trade" and a consumer. Sure if its a retailer selling on tardme it would apply, but not to Joe Lunchbox.

Just start making bogus hotmail and trademe accounts and keep clicking buy now.

After six or seven times they will get the message.... :Playnice: :Oi:

This is possibly not the best advice. You can't click buynow unless you are a verified member, can't you?

Also, trademe state that a buynow is a legally binding agreement to purchase. Surely you wouldn't be advocating an illegal act, would you?

I sold my BMW through Trade Me the second time I advertised it but both times I had to put up with a load of crap from people who weren't even interested in the bike, they just wanted to stir. One emailed me to ask why I thought I'd get that price for the bike because he'd just bought one the same for a lot less, while another kept sending me lists of F650GS prices (some were 1986 models so very cheap) and pointing out that my bike was very expensive compared to them. Well, yes, the reason my F650CS - NOTE - CS, not GS!!! was priced at $11,500 was because it was a) a 2002 model; b) had ABS, heated grips, power socket, and a personalised plate; and c) it was not an off-road bike that had been thrashed, it was in mint condition and was a ROAD bike!

The guy who bought it rang me, arranged to come and view it, took it for a test ride (left me his kids as security - like they'd be worth much - ha ha!), rang me a couple of days later and said he'd take it, and had transferred ALL of the money into my bank account before he collected it.

Some people who use the site need their rear ends kicked - and hard!

Well your mostly right, but a seller is still bound by the CGA in regards to misrepersentation of goods.
