View Full Version : Fitting a jet kit

so - the correct jet kit turned up for me today.
its got all the stuff i need to up the carbs to handle the new k&n and upcoming exhaust system
now - reading up on the instructions it doesn't look too hard. was going to have a go at it myself. had quite a bit of experience with carbs from old brittish cars so i reckon i could probably do it. theres not a lot of choice to the kit - you basically just take all the existing stuff out and put in the new stuff.
looks like float is the only thing that needs actual adjusting. and theres a measurement for that.
basically just looking for a reason why i shouldn't?
anybody?

Nup, can't be too hard :)
Yep not too hard. Whip off the tank, airbox and carbs. Just don't round the screws holding the fuel bowl covers on.

what kit do you have? I have a dynojet kit and im pretty sure there are a couple of choices for jets, but only one lot of needles.

the kit i bought uses the stock needles and air jets but replaces the emulsion tubes and slide springs.
there are also 4 pairs of jets. 168's 172's 178's and 182's
recommendation for k&n and yoshi/muzzy type full system is
cyl 1&4 170jets
cyl 2&3 180jets
all i need to do is adjust the float height and put it back together.
once its all in there and running i will take it to a dyno tuner to get it bench marked and get the air/fuel checked. kit comes with needle shims as well incase i need them.
now all i need is my dam exhaust!

Out of interest L7, where are you looking at buying your exaust system and how much? I ask this because I may be doing the same as you and if we brought 2 systems together we may be able to get a bigger discount.

STAY AWAY FROM THE ARROW OPTION FOR YOUR BIKE , GOOD BUILD QUALITY BUT NO REAL POWER GAINS , I FOUND THE AKROPOVIC WAS BEST AND THE VANCE AND HINES HAD A STOMPING TOP END BUT THE PIPE FELL TO BITS .
BTW IF YOUR BIKE IS STOCK AND YOU WANT A CHEAP MOD THAT GIVES 12 HP IN THE MIDRANGE AND 6HP UP TOP , JUST GET SOME WASHERS AND RAISE THE NEEDLES ABOUT 1.5MM OR SO, BEEN THERE DONE IT GOT THE DYNO RESULTS

ebay mate - from the states. when i was originally looking the dollar was doing alot better than it is now. a muzzy or yoshi full system would have only cost about 8-900 landed. now probably a couple hundred more.
been thinking about custom chambers getting them to do a custom job.

dumbass - If I wanted a bike purely for HP I would have bought an R1.
Not doing this for HP gains, that is what the toy car is for.
I bought the bike cause I liked the way it looked and now I want to make it sound better too.
Jet kit is being fitted so it stays in tune.
Go pretend to lose your licence again. Loser.

I'm sure I remember reading the akra was supposedly the best pipe, when money was no object, yet offered no gains, so I'm not exactly sure what was going on there.
Got a muzzy and I love it. I really really want a short slashcut to narrow the arse of the bike (scraped the zorst on the odd car when weaving through cars at traffic lights), and it would make everything look really neat, but apparently the bike would jump to about 140db.... arse bandit. :bye:
