ZXR 400 or CBR 400RR

Just wondering among ZXR 400 or CBR 400RR which one would be a better bike to buy?...what I found out so far look like it has to be CBR 400RR…what do you guys think?..

ZXR is the quicker of the two with better cornering clearance, hence the popularity with club racers. A late model CBR400RR Gull arm is a beautifull piece of engineering. Typical Honda.

The gear driven cams mean that the top end is a lot stronger, they have a better spread of power and are the most neautral handling bike I've ever ridden. I'd love one (dont tell Deano!). I recently sold a 98 CBR to a mate that only had 4500km since new, he derestricted it which was really easy and the thing was a fucken rocket!

hey WT, what do u mean by late model? would 95 be considered as a late model?..that CBR of ur's, was it 400?...ya i wanna derestrict it too , but u can't get insurance on it then right?

Buy a zxr400 hmm maybee a 1989 one--then when you make it out on the track we can save on how many spares we buy :eek:

I agree... get the kwaka :done: Maybe with enough people owning them haynes or some other manual maker will make a manual and i can do a bit more work on mine. As an added bonus you may well be riding a green bike and hence caring for the environment :2thumbsup

who told you that?! Insurance shouldn't be a problem. 95 is late model, ours was a 98 and it's only minor fairing changes.

To derestrict it you first get hold of a little box that plugs into the speedo or something, that tricks the bike into thinking it's always in 5th gear and lets it rev higher in 6th. Pull the carbs out and in the inlet manifolds, you'll see some really ugly washers which blank off half of the inlet. Pull them out with some pliers and throw them as far as you can.

There is also a restrictor in the muffler which is fairly easy to remove.

Then you take your shiny machine to a Dyno tuner with a gas annalizer. Get it jetted and tuned to run with the mods and voila! You have a nice and quick little 4 hundy.

Then you ride it down to my place so I can have a go 'cause I love those things :D

WT was this a black/burgandy CBR400? If so I think I ended up buying it from you guys (WMC) after your mate traded it - still had low miles 5300km from memory when I purchased it. It was kindly transferred here up to Auckland by you guys (Jamie from memory). It was a mint bike and went ok but I soon determined that small engined, high revving straight fours just weren't for me. Got to say the sale experience was good as gold & would have purchased from you again. What is bizarre is that I went to Wellington again to purchase my current bike. Deals seem better down that way.

Don't get confused with the rules used by most UK insurers under the compulsory scheme. True over there. Not here.

havent ridden a zxr 400, but i do have a cbr 400rr, and i reckon the thing is bloody briliant. handles better than a 250 and has plenty of grunt for its size. i can tour all day at 170 if i feel like it, and it will even pull a pillion passenger up the ngauranga gorge at 120 in top gear without even trying. only complaint is that the seating position is a bit cramped if you are a tall bugger like me, but hey it comes with the territory-you get over it

Do you have a front fairing bracket up for grabs?? I'm seriously keen on it and could do a deal as mine is a mangled mess!!

Another vote for the ZXR...although it may be slightly better, the CBR is probably more reliable with better parts availability?

yip i'll plug the zxr400. If unrestricted it still pulls past 180. suspension is really hard so good for track interesting at speed on the roads. Still a good versitile and quick bike. :headbang: :headbang:

i was always told that ZXRs were really good track bikes and hondas were great road bikes. so really it overall depends on how you like to ride.
was once told on good authority tho that the ZXR400's can come with some really trick bits that other ZXR's (except mine) didnt have. ie slipper clutch, lighter and stiffer frames and so forth.
VFR's are pretty cool and go well for what you pay, but if your anything like me (taller than 5'5'') you wont really fit on it, a good mate of mine races one in victoria clubmans with good results. but again, he is some what shorter and lighter than me.
never had the chance to ride a CBR, have you had a chance to look at a GSXR400? a mate of mine had one of those and he loved it, only sold it cause he was finding it too hard to keep up with us jokers on bigger bikes.
Albeit it was a so called "RR" it went really well, went off the clock with ease and handled like a dream.

Did a twenty minute trackday ses on my wifes Babyblade a week or so ago, have to say it's the best fun i've had on a bike for sometime... my vote, altho not ridden a ZXR, has to go to the CBR, top bike :)

my experince with all the cbr400 were they felt like big 250's, if you want a cbr i would step up to the 600 as its a little more powerfull and comfier than the 400.
However ride a cbr if you dont like it, dont buy it - they arent designed to be tweaked and super modded. They are a good all round average bike.
I dont buy good all roand bikes, they bore me

DUDE! ZXR400 vs CBR400? no... You should be asking ZXR400 vs VFR400 NC30.

In my personal opinion the NC30 is the bset of the 400's, but i am biased owning a few of them and all. Anyway i havnt heard much about those CBR400's and have not even had the chance to ride one, but i will say at the racetrack the most common bike id say in F3 is the ZXR, it all depends on what you want it for, the ZXR is faster then the CBR though, and those USD forks look soo good.
