Who else took their viagra (to harden up) and took the bike in this morning?
Didn't see a single other bike from westgate to the city. There's hardly any bikes at uni either. I haven't ridden in weather that bad for quite a while, even rode an SV325 for a little bit towards the end of the journey.
I deserve a kit kat.

I was in the car feeling guilty but I saw four riders on the road between Glen Eden and Ponsonby :)
Pfffft. I took the bike today. Still much better than being trapped in traffic with all the morons aimlessly commuting to their meaningless jobs.
I can't get over the amount of diesel that's on the roads through the city. What are VINZ doing?

Looked out of window, pulled blankets back up over my head and bravely (very bravely mind you if you know the high commander) instructed my wife to deliver a cup of tea. I am now recovering from the resultant beating.
No, I did not ride to work, its pissing down!

I think they've been employed by Uncle Helen to hole the tanks of economical diesel vehicles in a bid to generate more tax from the extra diesel sold.

Well I had my Virago out there on the nor-western motorway this morning from Massey to Te Atatu South around 8.15am this morning.
There was a m/bike ahead of me, but then I lost sight of it.
A nice fine drizzle it was too,
Not too heavy and not too light.
Just Right.

I did and some fuck decided to ride my tail far to close for my liking, even when I slowed to around 20 ks at the bottom of the bridge he would not back off, so quick burst to some kmhr then slowed back down as I approached traffic and here this cunt again rides my tail, quick emergency brake to see if he was ready, not really nearly hit the back of me (was watching ready to go from braking to throttle in the mirrors) and he finally gets the message to back off a touch.
A WARNING TO ALL TAILGATERS if you happen to follow me to close again in weather like this mornings I will slow, if you do not back off I will continue to slow and the stop and then come and remove your wing mirror for you!

Except when you've greatly underestimated the time it'll take you to finish an assignment, then you'd have to get up early, ride to uni in the rain and then winge about it on KB.

I wish I'd taken the car - I got too hot on my bike. Stayed very dry though.
The wet weather incites all the car drivers to even greater displays of idiocy though - in one 50m stretch of street, I had three (3!) of the bastards pull out on me. :nono: Wish I'd had a weapon.
Apart from overheating, and dozy drivers, the only problem was the rear tyre spinning up. I told Biker Gurrrl when I got to work, and she said, "Perhaps you should get a Harley - it wouldn't do that! Or perhaps that should be a 'Hardly' Davidson!"
She didn't ride her Harley (883 Sportster) though, but said she's riding it to the X-Men III premiere tonight, rain or not.

Last night was even worse - had a centimetre of water in my left boot whilst my waterproof over trousers stayed dry - in my rucksack:brick:
Dried all my gear off - stuck the tumble dryer hose in the boot which worked a treat, dry and warm and only on a 40 minute cycle, and got back on the bike this morning - with over trousers on.

Get your boss to give you a hot water cupboard to hang your gear in then by home time they will be all nice an dry.
Mine is hanging in my hot water cupboard at the moment... well I am am at home now...lol.
Rode in today, coming up the southern in the "extra" lane, I had a van that was one car in front decide to move across to the left, then stayed (still with its indicator on) straddling both lanes, the dotted lines running perfectly down the middle. Stayed there for a good 15 seconds, then gently finished his lane change. Mind you, all the windows were fogged up, so possibly he couldnt see which lane he was in anyway.

What you need is GAITERS. From the friendly army surplus place in K road, opposite the billboard of the chick with the humungeous hooters (actually , must check if that bill board is still there). You can't miss them $12.50 and a bargain at twice the price
Can you skin them to make shoes and handbags?

No issues no problems. Hardly any rain. And the roads are washed clean by now. (Though I did have to drain Ratty's rear indicator , which was COMPLETELY full of water!. Wondered about the odd looking light from it. )

The rain's not a real problem if you've got good gear. I arrived at work drier than the poor mofos here that took their cars then had to walk to the office in the rain.
The problems I have with wet days are visibility (partially fixed by a fresh application of Plexus to the visor before I leave); slippery roads (take a bit more care); and stupid car drivers (ride around them as much as possible).
However, wet days offer the biggest potential for saving time travelling, as the traffic is so thick and slow that anything other than a bike is going to be crawling.

Saw 2 other bikes on the N Shore today. Traffic even more daft than usual. Does everyone *have* to get in their car when it rains? Are the buses empty on wet days? Are the people who walk down the motorway on dry mornings who have to go by car in the rain? WTF?
Wet days more interesting due to combination of barely-legal front tyre & NS City Council blowing the road-maintenance budget on new slippery paint every-bloody-where. No diesel, but it was hosing down.
Just need to get a narrower bike to maximise time-saving opportunities...

rode to work yesterday morning as well....was raining a decent amount. took a spare pair of socks in case my work shoes leaked. was very impressed they didnt [normally my feet are half swimming when its raining]
dont bother with wet weather pants, just my work ones with thermals underneath. ive got leather pants, but they soak right through, plus a hassle to put on an off.
usually my jackets suffer worst in the wet, means i gotta hang em over an office chair and hope they dry out a bit.
got stuck in a queue onto the bridge [all the sissy school kids getting rides!] but the upside, is that that bridge has a cycle track attached. i could easily use that!
like others its ride, walk or bus to work. too far to walk and dont finish till quite late. and buses dont run when i finish! LOL.

I got wetter running from the cage than I do on the bike.
I want my bike back.:crybaby:
Once again I braved the elements and rode the bike to work up the southern motorway.
I suppose I shouldnt be so dramatic as I am 50 years old, had a bike licence since I was 15 and never had a car licence.
I always ride a bike unless I'm going out as a passenger in a car.
What made today special is that I, like the berk I am, thought the weather wasnt too bad. Didnt put on the waterproofs. Soaked through by the time I arrived.
I think the words "dipstick" and "brain fade" fully describe me this morning.

I rode into the city from the NS today around 8.40ish -9.10 am. About half way down Onewa I discovered a wee problem with my wets (trousers). Not waterproof in the crotch area. Having extremely cold and wet girly parts gave me lots of motivation to get into the city pronto. Hung jacket and trousers up in the kitchen at work, resulting puddle was over a metre wide. Took my work pants and underwear about 5 hours to dry out...just in time before putting on the still wet gear to ride home ! lol. I love riding in the rain though :-) apart from the wet girly bits!
Have to get a new visor on the helmet though...bloody thing fogged up so I had to ride with it half up. All makeup from nose down was gone by the time I got to work. lol
Part of the joys of belonging to the fairer sex I suppose lol!

Ride home was wet and windy but otherwise uneventful. I still haven't switched to winter gear, I wonder if this is going to be like last year, where it never got cold or wet enough to put away the summer gear.
I have a new pair of winter gloves I bought over a year ago and haven't worn yet.
This global warming is good shit I reckon.

Feck harden up. Loved the ride into work, ride home wasn't as much fun (decided to avoid southern m/way in the rain). By time I got to Pt Chev, decided everyone else was a bunch of pussies (had only seen one or two bikes by then), but by the time got to spaghetti junction, could see heaps more bikes (they were keener than me to lane split, or running late - love having a bike with no clock after all, trying to guess time makes life fun).
I thought it was fantastic to see so many bikes out on a shitty day. Saw one guy heading north (into the city) along the southern wearing what looked like faded blue jeans. Almost felt sorry for him. Then again, I often can't be bothered wearing wets, so I know the feeling well.
I thought traffic was very well behaved today, especially when the lights were out at Mt Wellington. Thumbs up for a change.
I have resorted to winter weight gloves (didn't take the lining out of my jacket even over summer), but still not bothering putting the liner in my wets.
One thing that is really annoying me though is the fact that my pack leaks. Can't remember what model ventura bag I've got, but it lets in more water than there is at niagara falls - won't be getting another anytime soon.
