Calling all you Kwaka experts. I am looking at moving down from a 1000cc to a mid range sports bike, and I have a question.
Pardon my ignorance, but is the 636 and 6R the same bike or are they different. cheers:Playnice:

636 and zx6r its the same bike.....but its the 6RR thats the different one...but I highly doubt you'll find one...and if you do it would hav been 99% likely it was raced...and they are apparently crap on the road...as they only made to be on a race track..

to further what cowpoos said
zx6r 03+ = 636cc
zx6rr 03+ = 600 (race rep model), was made so could race in the 600 series, only came in green, with a factory race kit you could easy get 120hp+ @ rw from them

Thanks Guys, I thought they looked the same, interesting that some ppl sell them as 636 and others as 6R and yet when I search Motorcycle trader for Kawasaki dealers No one is listing 636 ( or rather the search engine does not return any bikes). Just one more thing to confuse us poor dumb consumers.:blip:

yeah its really down to dealer, some of the early models were known as the 636, since the zx6r and zx6rr confused people
but now they don't even bring the zx6rr to sell in nz, so just list them as zx6r and looks alot better in branding
zx6r
zx9r
zx10r
zx12r
and like

yep, the proper model name for the 636 is ZX6R and the 600 is ZX6RR. More commonly referred to as 636 or 6RR
both machines a fine choice, if I do say so myself, but you'll most likely find more 636s around than 6RRs, and I'm lead to believe the 6RR was only sold in green, if that's a problem for ya.
the 03/04 636s were the liveliest of the bunch, the 05/06 have been tamed a little, but still super duper bikes..
Cajun, they still sell both the ZX6R (636, or ZX636R to some!) and the ZX6RR. You can still buy both in NZ, and they're still branded as separate bikes. The other bikes don't have double-ups for now, so there's no alternatives to those. That might change if the rumours about the ZX10 are true..
Laggcity, you wont regret the change- it's not a move down!
I moved across from a CBR1000RR Fireblade. I changed mainly to enjoy the lighter bike that can be thrown around easier and brakes better. Money wasn't the driver but I must say the 636 is great on gas, doesn't rip tyres to death like loo paper and cheaper to insure etc..
Most of my riding is weekend hill blasting and that's where the 600s shine, giving nothing away to the 1000s. In a straight line the 636 would be faster than the sv1000 anyway. And the price is right! Some moaners went on about the 05 model having too low a screen, I didn't think so myself. It's now sorted on the 2006 model.

in NZ 636 and 6r are the same for the 6rr you should special order
bugjuice
25th May 2006, 08:39
it's not just NZ, it's world wide.
And the 6R isn't special order, it's just not as popular on the floor as the 636 so not as many are ordered.
Kerry at Motohaus has a 05 6r and an 03 6rr in his shop at the moment (he says, hoping for a cut of the sale :blip:)

Tamed WTF, are you on drugs, they built a better bike with the C1. I cant recall me jumping off my B1 and getting on my C1 and thinking, oh well this isnt as quick or as agressice as the last model, what you talking shite for buggy? you ridden both extensively?
the C1 is a much more aggressive bike you can ride it much harder lets pluck one mod out to proof it, ahhhhhhh a slipper clutch! that put in there so you can ride it harder on corner entry without the back getting all out of shape.
not to mention the engine mods which are a plenty.
Sheesh Buggy you can talk some shite:wait:
Oh and if you want the superior C1 model 636 , buy mine its for sale!

Actually I agree with Buggy, the B1 is a bloody animal.
The C1 is also pretty aggressive, but it was made a lot more user-friendly.
I reckon the B1 has more outright track potential, but most people will get much more out of the C1.
Both awesome bikes. C1 build quality one of the best I've seen.

Mine is the A1 model, 2002, first of the 636s. Right on the changeover from the 600 to 636. Visually identical to the 600s I think. Now try getting parts for that?!! Just as well it doesn't need fixing often!
A late-model 636 should annihilate an SV1000 on corners and in a straight line.

My impressions, feels extremely light in the front, do they normally have steering dampers or not like this one.
Handling was brilliant, very very quick and responsive, brakes were incredible make mine look like a pushbikes.
Didnt have much acceleration unil it hit around the 11k mark then holy hell :gob: , hanging on with white knuckles, really missed the torque of the big twin.
The one thing that was really strange was that I could not see the speedo or rev counter while in a normal riding position, the edge of the screen cuts right through the vision, had to put my head right down to see the readouts. I am not overly tall 5" 10" so I am wondering is this just this bike or is this an issue with the model.

Yes feel very light in the front, damper not really needed on the road, I never had a moment, if you want to trackday it or wheelie it then sure get one.

No its a charachteristic of the model, dont let it put you off though, its really not a big deal after a week or so, infact you dont even think about it, Im 6ft and it wasnt a problem, just a little different at first .

you get used to it, and/or get a double-bubble screen, and that fixes the problem. And depending on how hard you ride, you could need a damper. I've had my suspension set up for me, and I've packed the head down more, which has solved most of the problems, but I think as my confidence gets back up, I'll need one

Hello, that's what I posted earlier "Some moaners went on about the 05 model having too low a screen, I didn't think so myself. It's now sorted on the 2006 model"
One week with the bike and you wont notice the screen. It only slightly obscures the top of rev counter from 13,000 to 15000 so what's the issue. At slow riding you aren't near this range anyway AND when you ARE in this range then only a nana would be sitting bolt upright. As soon as you give any bike the berries you automatically dip your head and tuck in. So, when you need to see the upper revs you can. If this still bugs you then get the 06 screen or the kawasaki aftermarket double bubble screen.

More weight to negate the extra horsepower and better brakes. Slipper clutch is only needed on a 600 if you're riding in the wet and cock up your downshift big time.
I still reckon that the more aggressive geometry and riding position of the '04 makes it more suited to the track...but we'll probably never know.

errr no not really, 04 had 91.9kw for 161kg, 05 has 100kw at 164kg.
Sliiper clutch is not good only n the wet at all, it also very helpful in rapid downchanges in the dry, ever heard of vapour lock or accidentally changing down one to many gears,or rear wheel hop? this can cause greif in wet or dry, not to mention hard braking and changing down while entering a corner on the lean.
Also (seen your not listening) the 05 has a newer cylinder head larger valves new cams this boosts performance over the 03.
new fairing design gives the bike an additional 7kw at 250kmph.
the suspension linkage ratios are improved on the 05 which has cured the ride harshness of the 03, this has improved its on the track performance.
When you look at the factory spec Torque and power curve the 05 is superior (a better performing bike)
basically you can some it up by saying it has more power and now chassis improvements to let you use it.
BTW I have owned both bikes, I have ridden both bikes on the track and hard, I know what Im talking about, I dont understand the angle of your arguement really, I mean the newer model is an improvement on the last one, every single report I have read says this also. so what gives?

Most of the above is marketing spiel. Especially the power claims. Most independent comparisons showed very little difference at the wheel.
I agree with the better aeros though, it's noticeable from the first ride.
Suspension is less harsh, agreed.
Most reports said that the model is a huge improvement because they liked the looks more, and said that it's a far better road bike, which I agree with. I still think the '03/'04 is potentially a better track bike.
I haven't ridden both as much as you have, but have ridden each more than once, and for a decent distance.
My opinion, reasons already stated above. Geometry more aggressive, lighter, quicker turning.

Fair enough aye. Puke is a hole. A dangerous hole. Fun track for bigger bikes, just needs more than 30cm of run off at critical points.
I used to go fairly hard on it, but don't think I'll do so again.
4hundy would be sweet around Taupo. Such a sweet, technical track (which I didn't nearly get to grips with at the track day, but would love to in future)
