Hey everyone. As you know (if you read my first thread) I bought a CBR last monday. I'm having awesome fun with it, especially since I started taking it on the motorway. One thing I do wonder is how high can I rev it? I take it up to 12-13, but I'm not sure if its alright to take it higher.

Take right up to the red line mate. It'll have a limiter too so if you go beyond that the limiter will cut in.

You make max torque around 14K rpm and max HP around 16K. Stay within that limit and you should be ok. I try not to exceed 17K at all times even on trackdays.
Remember you do have a rev limiter, but these are OLD bikes, so be careful.

Lol ok thanks. All the way to the red line eh... Well I do love that scream from the engine.

Take it to the red line, probably stops making more power after 15-16,000rpm but will rev higher if you need (before the redline).

Isn't that a song?

Just like the ZXR mate, they love to rev. Just remember to replace oil and filter very regularly. But yeah, 18/19k wont hurt it one bit.

Don't worry bout the revs mate. I had a 94 CBR250RR and I've taken it pass the redline and it's fine. They are rumoured to be able to handle 22500 rpm. (from memory the dial only goes up to 21000) SO you can easily take it up to 20000rpm. Man...i miss my cbr so much.

You don't exceed 17k because u're a softie!!! :blah: hahahaha! Ride the bitch like you mean it~!

What year is your bike dude? Anything like 1989 or older and you really wouldn't want to take it past redline. Apparently they don't have a rev limiter. I found out the hard way, after over revving my '89 CBR400RR and blowing the motor.

Hmm,
You can do a 1:31 lap of the new Taupo track or do the Coro Loop (Kopu Mobil-Kopu Mobil) in under 2 hours without exceeding 17k, or so I heard, or thought, or saw, or did, or dreamt, dunno - one of the above.
Anyway - how are you?? Did you find a bike for your full?? Remember give me a yell if you're stuck.
We should catch up sometime along with that mad musician and do SH16 or Coro or something.

Oi, let her warm up real good first eh? And use a good semi-synthetic oil (fully synthetic oil can cause problems with the wet clutch).
All that done, thrash the nuts off it.
As far as I'm concerned, if it says it can get there it goes there, end of story. Spent 10mins once chasing big bikes at 15-18~k full throttle, exhaust was ticking and the bike dripped a bit of oil once stopped. Fuckin incredible though.
Those cbr's take everything you throw at them, moreso than zxr250s.. hammer the little bugger! Hehehhe

A good rule of thumb for long engine life is the two-thirds rule. Do not exceed either two-thirds maximum revs or two-thirds full throttle in general use.
This does not apply to two strokes.

Don't ride them, they will sieze at any oppertunity and throw you off. While choking you to death. Dirty infernal machines. :blah:

Nothing applies to two strokes. They break all canons of decent civilised behaviour. Noisy dirty polluting politically incorrect environmentally unsafe hoon machines.

True, true. The two stroke is certainly not for everyone. Not all can cope with their idiosyncracies. Best to stick to the four stroke , eh.Much more sensible.Takes a very special sort of idiot to appreciate the two smoker.

How often is changing the Oil filter and oil? Like 5k or less?
I have been around bikes for years but you dont really change farm bikes oil ;) so whats often on a Road bike of the CBR250RR calibre?

Bit surprised at your old CBR400 dropping it's guts.

This does not apply to modern bikes (year 2000 and above), or does it?

My CBR250 lived at redline all the time, and had well over 90'000kms on it.
The rev limiter hits at 21'000 rpm so use 19'000 all you need
