easiest guess, is full licence, which knowing the government it will.. trikes and sidecars need more effort for turning etc, and sidecars are normally for passengers, which, you need a full for..

They both class as motorcycle. There is no specific licence requirement for sidecars (or trikes). However, as noted above, the passenger prohibition on non-full licences applies, as does the 250cc limit. So, in practice, you would need a full class 6. However this would imply that you could not drive a Morgan on a class 1, which seems absurd.

You can't drive a Morgan - you give it guidance and it choses whether or not to follow.
I'm thinking of getting a Ural so I can take the kid(s) to school. Anyone know if they do a a lefthand side outfit?
I think you can go either way for a trike, they can be registered as a car and that way you don't have to wear a helmet. You'd have to talk to the trike guys about that one....but sidecars are bikes.
You can get left side Urals, but not the driven chair wheel, that can only be done with a right chair.someone has started bringing in Chiang Jiang's again, the rebuilt ones in fancy colours....and the sidecar is available seperate for $1500.There is no longer a requirment to have a left chair - you can choose left or right hand drive, both are now legal.

Yeah I know - I just don't like the "idea" of it being on the right with kids in it.
No problem really - when you want to pass you move out to the right so the kids in the chair can see what's coming....by the severity of the screams you can guage the size and speed of the oncoming vehicle.
Nah,it's got to be on the left.

They don 't scream. One would laugh like hell and beg me to do it again, and the other would be standing up and waving at the oncoming traffic while asking them their names.

sorry guys but theyve tightened up on the law.
A sidecar unit -Bike and sidecar are concidered to be a BIKE
Trikes being built now will only be accepted as being Motorcycles
HOWEVER --Any trike currently registered as a car can be "driven" on a car licence.

So, what if you wanna register a Morgan (a proper one). 'Twould be absurd saying that was a motorcycle?

When a mate & I built our Morgan Replica, it was regoed as a class LE2 trike ie:2 front wheels & a steering wheel .The other class available was class LE1 for trikes with 1 front wheel & handlebars. We both have our full bike & car licences

So what would stop you having a chair on both sides at once.
Provided that you stay within 2.4 metre width.

Might be a bit difficult to set up?What with having to have lean-in on both sides at the same time!?

Riding in a straight line both side wheels would be off the road, save rubber:nya:

Very nice.Very nice indeed. Looks like a proper Morgan to be sure. But, does it have a V Twin engine? And, based on what Mr frosty says, you couldn't drive it if you only had a class 1 licence, cos it is classified as a motorcycle for licencing purposes? which seems a bit silly.

Does anyone built custom trikes in NZ? I remember seeing an article some years ago about some guys building custom BIG bikes up Hawkes Bay way. These were truely monster bikes. Does anyone know 'Gary' from Porirua way whom built that big red trike and I believe still works in Wellington ? That was a great trike. Always crusing around with the dog on the back.. ended up getting a ride back up to Hataitai one drunken Friday night with me and dog howling all the way on the back tray. All the way from Lambton Quay , up Willis Street and through the Mt Vic tunnel. So lucky no police around that night. Too much of that dark stuff from Ireland. Ah...youth.
