After a three month wait my new bike has arrived. Got it out of the crate and assembled it late last week and got to have a few rides on the weekend in amongst the shite weather. I AM WELL IMPRESSED. The handling is very sharp. Only had it out to 8 grand and theres another 4 to go once it is run in. All round a fun bike to ride. Wasn't to sure about the pillion comfort side of things but after taking the co-pilot for a blast through some nice twisty valleys near home it got the big thumbs up. Heres a few pics.

That must be close to the first new model FZ1 sold in New Zealand. Nice in yellow too.

Just waiting now for a fuller ride review...

As far as I know it is the first one on the road in NZ and we have managed to secure another one as well which is sitting outside my office. It is still for sale as no one knows it is here yet :blip:

Love that muffler and the overall look is quite aggressive. Very nice. Only thing I don't like is the headlight but I bet the effect is different in person.

Bastard!

I've been droolling over that bike for quite some time, quite like the yellow/black colour scheme as well.

Congratulations, no doubt you'll enjoy that bike.

Now that's an interesting comment! Personally, I was just about to ask when you'd be changing the muffler, WaiYam! I don't mind the headlight too much though! Just shows that each to his own when it comes to styling, eh? Overall, I do like the style of the new FZ1's. Don't know what I'd do with all that power though...:scooter:

I thought the first thing I would do would be to change the muffler. In the flesh it actually suits the bike, just to damm quiet. They have put the ExUp valve behind the clamp as well so you can't just put a slipon onto it.

Henderson Motorcycles have one. I personally have been drooling on it for a couple of weeks now.

But tell me, why would I want to pay $5,000.00 more than a Z1000 Kawasaki?

Good point. The FZ1's big selling point as an "all-rounder" has been its fairing. I suspect Yamaha will sell more of the faired than the unfaired. But then it would have to be something pretty special to make it worth over $8,000 more than a Bandit. And a Bandit doesn't have an "Exup" valve to fanny around with if you want to fit a custom muffler...

Hi Tony. Yes it's me. My previous handle was GSX1400 which obviously doesn't fit now. Crazy Steve was someone that was looking at buying the 1400. The FZ1-N is awesome. Wasn't sure about the passenger comfort but took my wife up to the Puhoi pub yesterday. She absolutely loved it and said it was more comfortable to pillion on than the 1400 was

Questions:

1. Is Yamaha NZ planning to import the FZ1S version?

2. If yes, what's the RRP?

3. Is it likely to be sucked up the arse of a RAV4?

"D" FZ1
12th June 2006, 11:59
Yes they are bringing in the FZ1-S. We have sold a couple already and have a nice metallic blue one in stock now. They are $19595.00 + orc of $365.00.

I haven't ridden the "S" version yet but if it goes anything like my "N" version it won't be getting sucked up by anything on four wheels :blip:

How's about a trade on a slightly damaged ST1300? It's got no nose. So how does it smell? Terrible.
