I believe that there is a 'test' day at Manfield this weekend (Saturday). I should clarify with Garry H wether its ok for us bunnies to get out there, but Im keen to head up.
The original thread is here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=29811)
It is $80 to have some sessions. There were 4 groups up there last Friday so I would imagine the same will occur on Saturday.
Anyone keen to head up for the day? Weather is looking favourable so far.
I may even get out on the track. So if there is anyone out there who hasnt passed anyone on a trackday, heres your chance!

I mite come up for a ride, but that will extract most of the funds at the moment so id say I'll just be watching.

I could be keen providing the weather is ok.

I'd be keen to tag along for the ride. Can't afford the entry fee (story of my life) but keen for a (birthday) ride.

Well A. I'm working and B. I aint go no ride. So unless work lets me have the day off and Deano lends me his bike I won't be going.
But you guys have fun.
If my bike arrives in time, that sounds like a good plan. Will let you know closer to the time.

I would think this one will be quite alot busier for several reasons.
1/ Its on a Saturday
2/ Its the only practice before next weekends Vic round
3/ Theres a car meeting on the next day so alot more cars will be there (maybe not as many drifters).
Not a good idea to check with me as I have nothing to do with the running of these days. Serious racers may not like going out and having to overtake someone going out on a roadbike riding all sorts of odd lines learning the track. But it really comes down to whos there on the day I think. Last weekend everyone was doing reasonably close times and the number of bikes was small.

Good excuse for a ride - been FAR to long (saving $$ sucks).

To be honest Ive kinda gone off the idea. The day, as Garry suggests, is kinda for the racers. I did the same trip last Friday and dont relish doing it again if Im not getting out on the track. Ill flag I think. Sorry guys.
I'm still keen to go up just for a ride (not to go on the track). How about meet at the elephant pond and leave at 10am? You others still keen (I need someone to show me the way!!)? (weather should be ok)

Will they allow road ridres out on the track or not ?
I'd like to think I'm not going to get in anyone's way but I'm not going up to watch someone else having all the fun.

Im pretty slow and while its a practice day Im not even close to being a racer. Some of you are far more worthy of being out there Im guessing.

My understanding is, it is just a straight manfield promotions run open practice day, so yeah roadbikes are allowed.
I seem to remember you went bloody well in that hill climb, if I hear ya horn, I'll pull over lol
An etiquette guide for road riders sharing the track with racers.... (not directed at Deano personally lol)
1. Think about your line way before you get to a corner, I've noticed a lot of road riders will swing right at the last moment for a better bite at a left hander (and visa versa for rights) , you are not on the road now and can set up your line from anywhere and you avoid getting a race bike ramming you!
2. NEVER look behind you once you are circulating on the track. when a racer comes up behind you, we are taking into account the line you are already on and will approach and pass according to that, if we see you look at us it gives us the shits as we then have no idea what action you are "deciding" to take as a result of seeing us there!
Thats about all I can think off for now, just try to be as consistent as you can. Another thing to keep in mind is there is nothing right up close to the track to give you a true sense of speed you are actually going, so be aware of that and don't overshoot corners, esp the hairpin, it is a lot tighter than it looks.
Other racers feel free to add bits and pieces to this thread as the see fit...
I just got my forks back for the 9 and will fit them and some tyres tonight, see ya tomorrow guys and gals! :scooter:

That's what people told me they were paying?!
Sounds like they could've got away with $80 if that's what was advertised though.

Dunno how that came about as its meant to be winter rates now. Only thing I can think of is it was the day before a car club meeting.
Sunday 2nd of July Open Clubsport Day is the first of the Clubsport days and these are attended by almost exclusively roadbikes. Your gear and bike is checked for a WOF (or it was last year anyway)
I remember a couple of racebike guys almost not being allowed on the track becuase they didn't have a brake light! Ask Martin (Sparky Bills) about why they didn't like his roadbike.
Anyway they run Cars Drifters and Bikes. Alot of loose difters that tend to mess up the track but still good day if the weathers right.

Ummm, why didn't I read this before I went.......I'm going to stick a stake with a 2L ice cream container lid on it at least 150m before Higgins next time. Then maybe I will learn where to brake, instead of running off the end of the track.
Maybe Shirriffs et al can pull it up at the 50m mark but some of us mortals need a bit more warning.
I stopped using the rear brake after that which helped immensely, as it was setting the back end up all funny and chattery like.

For the record, I get off the gas just after the 100 meter board and are well and truly hard on the brakes before the 50 meter board, Shirriffs is on a 600, your velocity on your litre bike is a shit load more at the end of that straight.
I like to use just a little rear brake to settle things, I've been known to deliberately introduce air into the rear brake system to de-sensitize it.

Front Brake only is the way to go.
Uncle B and I did a training day with Brian Bernard and we did alot of brake work learning to use the Front Brake only. Man are they incredible or what!
It's all you need on Manfield.
The other important tips he gave us when using only fronts, was to make sure you didn't lock your elbows and end up transfering all your body weight onto the handles. Use your thighs to press firmly against the tank to take away heaps of your bodyweight through the centre of the bike.
The other important point was that you need to bite the brakes lightly at first and then you can apply the brakes nice and hard, but you must not just pull em in hard and firm, you need to apply a them in a steady and smooth motion over a second or so. Until your squeezing as hard as you need, and presto - they don't lock but you slow amazingly fast.

Funnily enough I never used to use the rear brake sweet FA, even on the road, but when I started riding bigger bikes I changed my style and used a little rear as well. This used to work well on the track for me with the Duc and SP-1, but not on Saturday. I might have been getting a bit carried away and pressing too hard as well.
After sitting on Poos bike, I think I will stiffen the suspenders up all round next time too. It works well on the road but may be a little soft for the track.
