Help with 93 KDX 200

Hi,

I bought a 93 KDX 200 about 2 weeks ago. It's in good condition and going BUT it has no power at all. I cleaned the carburetor, new air filter, new spark plug. New gearbox oil. i also cleaned the petrol tank.

When i open the throttle the bike goes but as soon as i open the throttle a bit more the bike just stops.

Can anyone help or maybe let me know where i can get this fixed or maybe help me with a workshop manual for the 93 KDX 200?

How smokey is it ?

What condition is the plug in after running ? wet, oily or what ?

how wet is the muffler ? does it need a decoke.

It's smokes allot and when i took the old plug out it looked like there were some oil on it.

what do you mean with "decoke"?

PS.. i must be honest to say i'm new to bike fixing, so any help will be good :-)

If it's smoking alot there's a few possibilities but depends on what colour the smoke is.

if it is oily then it's possibly rings, but if its just fuel wet then it means your running too rich.

Decoke; Over a period of time carbon & unburnt fuel deposits collect in the exhaust and choke the flow of the pipe & cause loss of performance, a decoke is just the removal of these deposits

If is smokes like a cunt it could be a crank seal too..... maybe.....

does it use oil from the gear box??

Did you remove the main jet when cleaning out the carb?
Maybe you didn't put it back in again. That would cause it to go way rich when you open the throttle.

i think i know the answer. I MUST TAKE IT SO SOMEONE THAT KNOW BIKES :-)

Yes i think so. i marked all the parts i took out and then put i back again

Is the bike green?
If so theres your problem its a kawasucki.

Not that I'm an expert or anything... but I recall my brother having probs wit the power valve on his KDX (side of the head) and I cooked the piston in an older yz250 and it ran like you explained... with a big hole in the piston...

I took out the power valve and the read (how ever you spell it) valves were broken. So i bought some new ones. Installed it and there goes my bike. NOT it was going for around 20 min and then it died. I can't get it going again. I took out the carb and the power valve again. Put it back and still nothing. There's a load of oil coming out of my exhaust. Just now it started but it just died again. Can anyone think what’s wrong now?
