View Full Version : GSXR Vs Blade???

Ok here is the deal. See what you think...

Had Gixers for about 8-9 years. Loved them, had them in the UK and in NZ.

So thought it was time to go Honda, you know give it a go, keep hearing how good they are and such high quality. "they handle so much better than ya Gixer.' Was heard every week at the Pub.

Any way did it, bought a 2005 Repsol Honda, fucking beautiful.

This is where it kind of goes to shit, road it for about 3 weeks, started of pretty well, then realised every time i got off the bike some more paint was missing, chips, then the electrics shit out, then the rear shock completely died and had to be replaced, had a very hairy moment on a KB Thursday night ride.

Long story short, apart from the radiator starting to leak, is that this bike now feels like riding a pogo stick on wheels, at the best of times i am lucky to get round a corner without shitting myself. As for riding in the wet which made me need to bleach another pair of undies this bike is OK, and after all it is suposed to be better quality and a better ride.

Think its back to the good old, service ones a year, rape the shit out of, wheely when you want, corners like a Skyline on P, looks like the bogs bollocks GSXR.

What do ya reckon???:scooter:

Could do Sparky, would probably work out costing me the same as just changing to another bike. Guess i just lost faith in it to be honest.

Harden up.. you carn't blame your riding stylse on teh bike.

Bloody Poms .. i dunno :oi-grr:

ps... here's something to consider if you do swap out...

Honda... Hard to get round teh corner but you do
Gixxer.. won't fail you getting round teh corner.. but you'll be on your side :nya:

Hey.. all good fun; Theres Lemons where ever you go or what ever you buy.. Just look at Dover and his bike... one more lemon and you'd hit the jackpot!!! no.. wait.. Theres Vixter.. that makes 3 which = the JackPot $$$$$$$$$

Can't blame you for losing faith in it! They've must've started the build on the Friday before 'Golden Week' and finished it when they got back after a little too much sake. Hope the boys at Honda are taking care of you and putting things right.

i cant figure out why these bikes with 180hp and 170kgs hold together on a good day.

theres stories of gixers snapping in half right accross the frame.

i guess they will skimp everywhere to save weight. a coat of paint is probably a couple of 100grams so they probably only did one.
half filled the shock with oil to save another couple 100 grams.
electrics will be tiny little wires with shitty little connectors.

there was a story in a recent autocar where i was surprised to hear that they run hollow camshafts in the 1litre blades in an effort to save weight. the only reason they brought it up was that the wall thickness on the metal went from 1.3 to .9mm or something - saved them 100grams as well.

buy something with a bit more substance. a ZX7R springs to mind ;-)

hehehehe.... its a nice comeback from whale comments init :doobey:

122hp at the crank, 100 ish at the rear wheel, and a nice solid 203kg dry.

iirc, its not just the blade that has a hollow crank, I think a gixxer did, this could have been kornholio, now he has a solid one...

Have you already made up your mind?? There is a gixxer in your profile :blip:

The extra digit is ONLY for the EGO!!!! and its a zero.. ha.ha The 750 is quicker than the R1 and K4 gixa 1000 plus its cheaper. On Taupo its the ultimate weapon. 131hp at the wheel and 163kg's Stock. Bring on the track days...... :first:

Your not the only one to have problem's with them, there was someone else on here complaining about he's new lemon a few month's ago, don't remeber who tho.... I also have talked to a guy over tauranga way who had his rear shock snap while cornering, wasn't a 05 tho but was new at the time, 03 I think. Both of these guy's had nothing but problem's with warranty claims, in short they didn't want to know.

Hope you get it sorted mate...

On Taupo its the ultimate weapon. 131hp at the wheel and 163kg's Stock.I sat on a K6 750 yesterday and they are rather small and compact machines, I gather the 1000 is too with it only having a dry weight of 166kgs according to the spec sheet!

O well Tom, you have had never-ending probs with this Blade it seems, I wouldn't generalise and say all CBR1000's are crap though (not that you have said that). At the end of the day you need to *enjoy* riding it so if it's scaring you and shattering your confidence then find one that doesn't!

The '06 blade is supposed to be way better....most mags are saying its a completely different animal, although it has minimal changes.....but what they have changed has made it more rideable and closer to the class leading Gixxer thou.
You can't go wrong with a Gixxer though :)

YEEHAH!!! 1000th Post. It's taken a while but had some good laughs and good arguments too!

Back to the topic.

There is nothing like hoping on something that is confidence inspiring.
There is only one bike for "tomthephom".

The 2007 GSXR 1000.

I don't much care what people say about 600's doing the biz or 750's being the quickest.
At the end of the day. On the big thou, you just laze and when you roll the throttle - the power is there. No needing to work the revs etc.
I don't doubt that the 750 is a fantastic piece of machinery.
You claim 163 KG stock and 131 HP at the rear wheel.
My K6 weighs 156 KG and has 161 HP at the rear wheel. (add a few KG for the pipe and power commander & stickers)

With stats like that, A long time gixxer rider would be right in his element, waiting for the new 2007 Gixxer thou to be released.
It's not always about what bike will do the job. It's often nice knowing that your bike isn't gonna take a hammering doing the job too.

SimJen
21st June 2006, 09:35
Yeah lazy power is great. Coming from a 600 to my 1000 the difference is awesome. Easy wheelies, lower fuel consumption and great roll on drive in any gear. Still makes me wonder what gear im as it pulls so well.

Cant wait for the 2007 thou, doesnt come out till mid next year, but have seen some intersting pics of what it looks like. Twin exhaust, one under the seat and one down the side.

Need a resolution now though.....

Think its going to have to be the 06 thou...

Got to get the damn radiator fixed and put back all the standard parts on the damn blade first.

Should get it sorted for Niga Neils ride this weekend though.

Most lemons seem to be lemons from birth...so buy one with 20000kms on the clock, 'cos if it was a lemon it would've been off the road most of the time and wouldn't have gotten that many km's put on it.

After all of these stories about NZ Honda being pricks with warranty claims, I don't think I'd risk buying a new Honda, unless it was truly head and shoulders above the rest.
