I've just spoken to the police at Porirua regarding the accident on sunday..

The biker is Ok but has injuries include, a broken collar bone, broken ribs, broken arm and some teeth missing.

He was exceptionally lucky I reckon under the circumstances. The interesting thing is that they are unsure as to who's fault it was. Personally I cant' understand that since it was clear that the car in question pulled straight into the road in front of him. There are also reports of him speeding which I also didnt' see. He approached us about right I reckon, but I was told his speedo was stuck on 60k. I wouldn't really be able to tell the difference between 50 or 60 to be honest but either speed wouldnt' have made an iota of difference to weather he could have avoided it or not.

Anyway, they're going to contact us for a statement soon so I'll get the chance to tell it like it was.

I wonder if these questions have anything to do with the fact that he had a patch on his back!

they wont charge the cager, just based on his speed....i was going about 50k when i wrecked pup....never mind the bitch pulled out from a stop sign and didnt have a clear view.

Yep, Ive always said that! When I worked for ASB the older ladies were sooo rude and the patched gang memebers were always so polite, they'd call you maam and everything!

The police have admitted that the ambiant speed of that section of road is about 60kph.

In the absence of evidence of breaking by the bike should one not assume the car didn't give the bike much chance of stopping?

Assumption being the mother of all fuck ups the answer is a firm no.

Like any crash it should be investigated thoroughly and conclusions drawn based upon the investigation. First impressions are often correct but certainly not always.

Thanks for the update Mark. Glad to hear that he's going to survive. I haven't had to ride into Welly for a couple of weeks but went for a blast tonite. It takes major effort not to lose my cool at the sheer fucking laziness and thoughtlessness of some drivers. Man I wish there was some way to get demerits for stupidity and inattentiveness. 3 times I avoided becoming road jam by predicting impending stupidity. At least it makes me feel alive.
