Those of you that live in Wgtn probably know that it really is not a good idea to be riding out there right now....
Well I was and I got blown over AGAIN! I was turning right into Vivian from Taranaki, while waiting at the lights the wind was blowing me everyway possible so I thought, "I wont lean my bike going around the corner". And I didnt but the wind just blew me over anyway. No one stopped and two walkwise guy's walked across the road on the other side without so much as looking. Gee I wish I was invisible when I was doing 'naughty' things....
Anyway I got the bike up and rode it to where I was going and the engine etc is sweet but my lovely Knead-it indicator mounting has broken and the indicator cover has broken off... At the moment I really need to replace my brake pads and change the brake fluid, if I was a millionaire I would be sweet, but im not so if anyone has a right hand indicator for a KR150 that they would sell me for really really really cheap could you please let me know, I will buy it!

Just get a naked bike... as a second bike. They don't get caught by the wind as much and if the do fall over there's less damage (usually). Get something old and heavy. My old KZ550 was perfect for the job. But there's lots more bikes that'll do what you need. And being old they're cheap and don't need full cover insurance.

Bummer Str8! I wussed out and took the bus today. On the plus side, I had free booze at the work do, which I would have had to stay away from if I was riding on my L plate....which doesn't help you much (sorry), but I'm feeling pretty good!

Gezus Girl....you have to be more careful.
If you know it's going to be really crappy and blowing a gale, why not take the bus or hitch a lift with some mates and keep yourself safe and your bike in one piece.
Be a shame to miss out on all the mint riding when the weather's better.

it was quite windy out here in the hutt too, i went for a walk in the rain to go get a rego wearing the bike jacket and got more soaked than i did on the way home :weird:
atleast in town you have alternative trasnport should the need arise, ive got my bike and my feet and lets just say that i'd rather be riding in the wind/rain than walking in it!
Glad your ok - *checks post for offensive material* - looks clean
oh yea, go for some after market indicators. have you seen the ones on my bandit? they're alot nicer than the stock ones, its up to you though.

Yeah I know!!!! Thats whats annoying me, cause I have left the bike in the garage and bused it a few times before because if the wind. It wasnt blowing a gale in fact there wasnt much wind at all when I left home! The wind didnt pick up until I was way out of Karori into town by then I wished I had taken the bus. Other thing is, is that it's at least $6 from karori to hataitai!

Hey sorry to hear about this. Is it just the indicator and its mounting that's damaged or the fairing as well? I hope you don't have to park the bike for the rest of the winter.
With us being bikers I know the few crashes I've seen we rush out and help - check the person and pick up the bike make sure its not leaking fuel et, but it is weird how the rest of the crowd don't even see the bike and biker.
I'd agree with the comments above - forget the pies - but hey I wouldn't mind seeing you at lunch again sometime all the same.

Its just the indicator and mounting, the mounting was made out of Knead-It after I was blown into a grass bank in the Wairarapa last Sept and has held up pretty well all things considered. There are a few more scratches on the bike and a bit of a crack in the fairing by the belly but nothing major. I'll have a look at it properly when I get home from work today, it was too dark last night. Not to sure if I will leave it parked up, I'd rather ride my bike than bus everywhere. Just another confidence drop atm....

LMAO! That lil car is funny, you really have to experience it to know... it has a personality all of its own! And the feature door is all class (no really!) I dont reckon he'd let me drive it anyway, just imagine the amount of damage I could do with a cage, even a small one!

Glad to hear you're ok Hels.
I rode home from Palmy last night, hit a beauty lightning storm before Otaki and had to stop there to change my jumper under my jacket cause it was so wet! Couldn't see where I was going and rode most of the way with my visor up aand driving rain in my eyes!! Finally made it home in one very wet piece, jacket weighed a ton and my feet were sitting in about an inch of water in my boots, pulled into my driveway and almost got blown off. F**k, what a night, and what a shit of a ride home!!

hey hey hey... settle down... Sounds like you just need to move somewhere less windy... All you have to do is analyse your crash, see whay you could have done to possibly avoid it, and learn from it...
I had similar thoughts when i had over 7 crashes and blew up a RGV250 and a TLR1000R all in a short space of time... I thought "Why am i doing this???" Then i would go on a nice open road ride, or go to the track, and it would all come back to me...
Dont woss out, stick with it and you will reap the benefits :niceone:

Yeah, dont be too hasty in giving up, although Wellington's weather is not always the best for building up your confidence. But riding in Wellington will always mean you are always going to get wet or blown around every other day, so the only way is just to get out there and do it.
If you ride to work/school etc everyday, just try to figure out where the big gusts usually are and which parts of town are a problem. That way you can alter your route to avoid them.
For example, I used to hate waiting at the intersection around by the railway station (outside ferrymans) on a windy day, so would just go around the otherway and head down thorndon quay instead.
You can do it.

Please tell me you are not serious, this is just a little bit of difficulty str8, dont throw the baby out with the bathwater girl. I agree dont be hasty, but dont allow yourself to be scared off from something you enjoy so much either. As others have said here, sometimes the wise option is to just take the bus, not give up altogether.
Stay positive and cheer up, it will get better.

Cheers for the encouragment guys! Like I say Im gonna give it a bit more thought. Unfortunately in my 1 year of riding I have managed to write off one bike (1 year ago last week) then I got my new bike and 2 weeks later and was blown into a grass bank in the Wairarapa. I finally got my confidence back after that spill but have since had a car in front of me hit a car that changed lanes on top of it, that car somehow managed to bounce back and hit my bike even though I had stopped a good 2 or so metres behind because I had seen what was going to happen. I have had a taxi driver open its door on me on a skinny road while a 4WD was coming straight for me so I hit the taxi door. I have had an old man who had wandered of from his resthome walk out in front of my bike at night and I hit him and only narrowly avoided his head. But manged to break his pelvis and arm... I have had a 4WD change lanes right on top of me and I had to ride up onto the footpath to avoid being crushed. I cant even remember the amount of times I have manged to stop so that I didnt crash into a car pulling out infront of me or changing lanes on top of me... Bleh, I may just be being emotional but to be honest Im wondering if these are all just signs that I should not be on a bike...

Just act of your signature, expect the unexpected... Try to anticpate possible situations... Sounds like you have had a few freak accidents... But dont let those put you off... When you ride a bike in the city you will always have near misses everyday... if you have a near miss, thats not a bad thing... It means you did your job, and didnt get taken out...

Stick with it! You know its not the same in a cage. The wind was urmm.... interesting yesterday. One place that I have for really bad lately is Webb St Taranaki ST Corner, since they built that appartment block on the corner is a real wind tunnel . Ive nearly gone over a few times sitting at the light there.

I vote for the cheapest indicators possible, and possibly an alternative mounting solution - somewhere not in the "dropping" line. Otherwise don't ride in adverse weather conditions. Failing that, go faster. Seriously. Rely on physics to keep you upright. You're then less likely to fall over, particularly while cornering.
That weather yesterday was pretty special. Sadly it seems to be common at the moment. Roll on summer, tyres are getting too square!

the physics is good advise....a motorbike is like a gyroscope, or a spinning top...the faster it goes, the more stable it is. was a bit gusty here in wangas yesterday, with thunder and lightening.
glad to hear you had no bodily damage to yourself though...thats always a plus. i do suggest you consider what time you leave for work, the route you take and how much traffic is likely to about at the time [since moving is likely impossible!] like, my shift starts at 8am, and again at 3pm....meaning i have to leave about 20mins prior to avoid the rush hour traffic. [workers and school kids] if its possible to leave earlier to avoid the block up, it might be worth thinking about. which way was the wind blowing, what what direction was the corner, as you said you didnt lean. with wind i tend to lean no matter what, and simply adjust it to fit right....like, foxton strait i sometimes have to angle the bike away from the corner to allow for the wind.

Nay , don't let it get to you. That sort of thing happens to everyone - well, maybe not the getting blown off bit, cos /me is a fat prick, and von Klunken would take a typhoon to move. But the rest is just part of life's rich tapestry when you're abiker ('cept maybe bowling old men).
You get used to it after a while , don't even think about it . just "Pratt, I knew you were going to do that", round over and carry on.
Maybe get a heavier bike? I rather like heavy bikes m'self, they come into their own when the conditions pack up. Sort of -relentless- like.
