View Full Version : Not a good day up Rimutaka Hill

Dad, my brother and I were coming back from dirt riding. We were approaching the summit from the Featherston side and all of a sudden Dad stops the car. A dude on a previously brand new looking ZX636R was in the middle of the road behind a blind corner. Luckily Dad is such a boringly slow driver otherwise we may have run him over. We parked up and Dad ran over to him. He was standing and he was in one piece but he was a bit disorientated. He tried to start the bike in the middle of the road still behind the blind corner, open for a flying 4x4 attack. Dad helped him over to the parking bay and the flooded bike eventually started. He rode of back toward Upper Hutt with the muffler smoking, fairings and engine case scratched and rear fender crooked.

Then at the bottom of the hill after the twisties I see a Grey GSX250 scratched and muddied up by the side of the road. My brother also noticed an ambulance and a police car at the Kaitoke gardens. Since a friend of mine has a bike exactly like that, I texted him asking 'Dude, saw a GSX at the side of the road, was it you?'. No reply. Surprisingly I got a phone call from his mum saying yes it was him, he's in hospital and may need surgery, and otherwise he's fine. The poor bastard had only just recovered from breaking his hip a few months back. I haven't got many more details than that, don't know what surgery he needs done, here's hoping for the best.

What was the road conditions like up there, we went for a scoot around the back of Palmerston North and had a few showers that left the road a little slippery

It wasn't me on the ZX6.
Alarumba- what colour ZX6? Jimbo and I were up there late this arvo and someone we know was there on a silver/titanium 636. Said hi to someone on a new looking green one as well at the summit. Lots of em about today.
Another friend I saw was out on his black 636, just like mine but I've called him to check.
No good at all. I saw the grey Suz GSX at the side of the road and stopped to check. Just the bike sitting there waiting to be collected. Get well whoever you are.

Nope. Perfect conditions (except for a minor slip on the Upper Hutt side)

Alarumba- what colour ZX6?
Titanium. I didn't catch the guys name as Dad wanted me and my brother to stay in the car being on a busy road and all, fair enough I guess.

Ferk, it is who I thought it was.

NC, tell him hi and get well soon from me.

If he needs someone to get a group together to watch him cry into a perfectly good beer, you know how we all like to to take the piss.... err provide support for a fallen comrade.

Shit I hate these threads.....

I just rang Crazy Little Shit (titanium 636) - he is at the hospital now waiting to hear when they can operate on his broken thumb. He apparently snapped it quite cleanly and it needs a pin in it.

Nick said to say thanks heaps to Alarumba etc - he was quite disorientated at the time and really appreciated that you got him off the road out of harms way.

He said the bike isn't too bad, leathers are ok but he face planted the road so his helmet is rooted, but saved his life.

If this is offensive to you or Nick, I can get a mod to delete it. I don't wish to piss anyone off.

And it's not me he should thank, my Dad helped him out. Good to hear about the bike, hope the thumb will be alright

The patient enquiries information was all bollocks.

He hasn't been for surgery yet, and there is a great deal of name confusion going on in the ward at the moment, hence the misinformation.

Still, he has bike porn and his Mum. What else does a bloke need in hospital?

An iPod. Helped no end with the boredem when I was in last year.

Listening to Altitudes by Jason Becker while tripped out from surgery is a rather bodacious experience.

Yea, an ipod would be great in there...

I remember when i was in there a few times as a kid, i borrowed a mates gameboy - clocked poke'mon a few times while in there and while at home recovering (beat everyone that is, impossible to clock that one.....)

Anyone got a PSP or something to lend him?

Also I figured if i was ever in there again (was looking likely at one stage) i'd get someone to sneak me a laptop in with wireless internet access
