View Full Version : Auckland: ATNR Akl Thurs NIGHT RIDE & Drinks 27th July @ 6.30pm

Qkchk
24th July 2006, 16:36
What: A ride up north in da dark finishing with a stiff one
When: Thursday night after work - 3rd August
Where: Shell WESTGATE (end of the North Western Motorway)
Why: To get your fix for the mid-week blues and charge ya bike battery and get your tyres warm
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm departing @ 7pm
Pace: Open to all as long as you dont ride snail pace :scooter:
How: On ya bike, stupid!

The route will be discussed on the night. For those concerned about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr - 1half and is around 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at Albany.

- Tinted/iridium visors are not recommended, please change your visors over to clear ones for the ride. It is hard enough to ride in pitch black darkness without having to look through a darkened visor. Any chance to lessen the risks we take in our riding the better! (If you don't have a clear visor, may I suggest buying/borrowing a pair of clear safety glasses and keep ya tint visor up....) A anti-fog insert is a great investment.....

- Darkness = Slower speeds (self explained...)

This ride is WEATHER PERMITTING - I will post up in the thread if it is postponed due to weather. I will decide on the day and post after 5pm.

Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride.. Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides! (As we have had seen in the past)

I will not be responsible for people ending up at Wellsford due to not listening to instructions nor the pointer system failing.......... :nono:

Dont forget ya thermals! :cold:

Ive been thinking the same - daylight that is....

Cant wait til daylight savings finishes (October) but an interesting fact:

*****this time of the year, we gain 1 minute of daylight every day****** in a months time or so, we should be meeting up in daylight again! :wari:YEAH BABY

Any nana riders out there who want to take a passenger? ;) I'm a nana passenger who would love to go on this ride! I'd love to meet some of you guys and gals but I'm a long way from getting my own bike (or license). :scooter:

More info here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=32831

What I'm really looking for is a rider who is experienced at taking pillions... I don't want to be your guinea pig :nya:

In exchange for a ride I'll even buy you some nachos (especially if they're free)

All this depends on me getting some decent riding pants between now and Thursday night of course... it's too cold to go pantless!

Yeah right!

Since when have I seen you ride sensibly enough not to endanger your own life, let alone some poor pillion? Come on Mark, get with the program!:nono: We all know what 'the law' says we can/cannot do on a learners. Quite frankly, if you turned up on the ride with a pillion, you would be asked to f@#k off home and to think about it. Enough said.:oi-grr:

Phenoix
25th July 2006, 21:55
As great as the ZXR's are, a pillion changes it all together, if you got hot into a corner, breaking is alot longer.
We all know you would try and show off.
And Klingon would look funny on a 250 as a pillion, she wouldnt need to worry about looking at the back of your head, she'd see straight over it and then some :P

Ok, now that we have sorted the CRAP from the FACTS, we can get back to the topic - Thursdays ride.

Weather at this stage looks bloody awesome. There's a huge high off the Tasman at the mo, promising blue:sunny:skies tomorrow and Thursday.:blip: I'm gonna go and find my Rain-X http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/000636.php (can be bought from Repco) and give my visor an anti-fog finish. It's gonna be a cold night!:cold:

With your GF tho, you just turned up at the pub.
When your round other bikers, you try and prove your self, try and keep up. And push yourself. From sore lessons learnt, you sometimes exceed your skill.
You wouldn't like to be the last one to the stops so would push it.
Shes realitivy new at riding so might also unbalance you.
Thus the reason for an experianced rider. So they can drop their whole weight over to conteract any mistakes a pillion might do.
250's arnt very forgiving for weight unbalance's.
My 5'10" mate was proff of that, pure mircle the bike stayed up.

Phenoix

But some nights, even with the visor up its hard to see the front tyre.

I have never seen your girlfriend at all, in fact I have never been introduced.

I dont care how careful you ride with a pillion Mark, its the fact that IF you did happen to have a mishap and something bad happened to the pillion, do you fancy spending 10years in jail for Manslaughter? The fact that you knowingly knew you shouldn't have a pillion to start with? Its a bit like a drunk driver killing someone on the road - he shouldn't of been driving to start with. Think about it, Im not having a go at you, just hoping you can see "beyond today."

And yes, I did offer klingon my backseat, but unless you fancy riding on a 180+HP bike on a seat no bigger than a phonebook...........

I think i might turn up for my first thurs nite ride...be wary though..you'll need an extra plate of nachos to cater for me.

But again...all the shit being talked by a certain kb member is putting me off. I enjoy meeting up with a bunch of good people and goind for a ride...i dont enjoy having to look out for idiots on the road while im trying to ride in the dark on a road im not familiar with.

Could anyone share the rules regarding signals and directing traffic??

Most of the people who come on the Thursday night ride are actually pretty reasonable people. We don't put up with shit from the young fellas and they know it. They like to spout off on here but they know that if they do anything stupid on the road then the consequences will be swift and harsh.

I enjoy the Thursday night rides and will continue to do so. Sometimes it's best just to ignore some of the stuff on here...

Thats if he makes it to Dairy Flat................ any doubts and you wont be welcome on the ride, Mark. Im not having people miss out/avoid a ride because of 1 person. We have already been through this crap before with another member and he got the boot - permantly.

Nah I'm not worried about Mark.

He has a fair idea of how hard I can punch from the last time he pulled one of his clown acts in front of me :innocent:

EDIT: Remember, 99% of what Mark says on here is bullshit, the other 1% is punctuation.

yea they are all tough on here, but they get wiped into shape buy chck if they step out of line.
rule of thumb is their is a lead rider, and a tail end, don't pass the lead rider and the tail end will pick up any straglers, if you are behind the lead rider and come to a intersection then wait their and direct traffic in the right direction to go. Wait untill the tail end comes along and then you are free to go. I'll ride along with you "ROOKIE", riding at night improves you skills, well thats what i reckon. As long as its not passed your bed time:zzzz: :nya: , i get in trouble went i get home thats for sure.

As Qkkid says, this ride is organized for that fact of meeting other Kbers and to go out for a blat as well. It is open for all to attend - Newbie/Senior members, Learner/Experienced riders, as long as you can ride safely and confidently @ open road speeds. And not be a twat.

hey guys don't get put off coming just by whati say on here it's all talking bullsh*t i don't push it and i passed them all at a stop sign so it didn't count truth is i take it pretty easy and don't speed i'm not out there like a maniac i'd rather be called slow than be dead...

taking it easy at the back this week anyways i need to get some cornering practice in won't be tec tho cus there may i doubt it but there may be somebody slower than me...

so guys it's all smack talk on here truth is i'm a careful rider when i'm out there......and i'm not going to take you out because i'm riding like an idiot or something....

ill be taking it easy...as always need to concentrate on getting my lines right so will just be crusing as always but slower...

you did pass us all when we were cruising at about 120 on a straight road... you came hairing past at like 150 and then started bleeting on about being the first one there at the next stop

Phenoix
26th July 2006, 21:48
Didnt think I'd say it, but Mark does actually ride catiously at night most of the time. And while he may be all talk on here, he is different on the road
There were instances where a banned member did casuse problem, but the group the currently group usually stick closly together speed wise
And Mark wasnt the first, he was the first 250 cos he passed most of the rest at a stop sign on the outside.
Feel free to come along, you wont get lost as there's a tail end Charley that picks up all the straglers.
The overall speed is only about 100, tho on certain straights, some people do test their bikes ""other" speed out.
The ride it's self isnt that far in distance, just enough to make you feel like you deserve that free beer :doobey:

Ok folks,

The ride is ON!

However, take care if you are getting fuel from Westgate Shell. I have heard that they have recently moved the underground fuel tanks, so the fuel will be well mixed and there is a GOOD chance you may end up pumping bad fuel (WATER!) into your bikes.

Will c u fellas/fellets up at Westgate 6.30pm. Ive got RiderinBlack here so we have at least 1 rep from the Norfland crew...........:blip:

Well Mark I would love to be on the bike BUT, my surgeon says I am not allowed for a while so I guess that even though your speedy sharp wits will wound me and I will look longingly after the 'real' riders like yourself. I will just have to satisfy myself with a quality ale and some good food and company.
As for the speights chicks.... I reckon they are pretty safe.

Harden up Mark, just punch them back, most people have never been assaulted in their lives and will go into a state of shock if you hit them. That's when you hit them again, and again, and again.

Go for the back of the neck, preferably on an angle, punch it as hard as possible. I never believed in such shit as pressure points and crap until my boxing trainer did it to me and I did the chicken dance.

Now boy, you have no excuse.
