Speaking of these, I'm looking at one, but with the local dealer here not having one I can ride, how are they for the larger person?? I'm 6'1" and about 120kg.

Cheers, Jeff.

Talking about larger people... I am 6'5" and wondering about a suzuki hayabusa. Will I fit? I know they are a bit low... Thx

I say the handle bars can be replaced to give you more room on the Hornet, and the shock would be best to be replaced for your weight. But that would be true on any other bike as well. Not sure if how the peg to seat distance would work. Best to find one to seat on.

A tall(ish) lady of my aquaintance tried a Hornet and thought it cramped her legs. She wound up buying an Africa twin or similar. Suggest you try one first.

Good bike for the price but they lack the lowdown torque that I prefer if you jump on a Bandit which is similarly priced you will find that the way they deliver their power is sweeter

Well..... rode one today and was very disappointed, worst points, very clunky gearbox with a vague feel to it, not as much low down as I thought, very harsh engine that vibrated quite badly through the bars at the normal speeds you want to sit at and the seat is downright uncomfortable, so thats that bike out of the equation. Next :-)

Well, you have pointed out two of its three most common failings.
Vibes in the bars, easily fixed with new ones.
Not the most comfortable seat, again easily fixed with a seat custom made for your butt.
The other failing commented on often is the suspension. Ohlins solves this, but its not a race bike so most are happy with stock.

Clunky box and lack of low down power, never heard of that or had those problems.

You have done the right thing, the only way to know if a bike is right for you is to ride it. Plenty more Honda's out there :blip:

Have aftermarket bars that have no vibration even without bar weights. I can reasonably easily ride for a whole tank full of gas without stopping, but then the lower bars have taken some weight off my arse.

I'm just a noob .. but I clocked up 400kms on friday "two up" with little, to no effect to my arse, or my arms, provided I kept the speed around 110-120 to keep the "boddy lift" going.

At 90 I admit, way too much weight on my puny little office worker arms ;)

Clunky gearbox? how many k's has that hornet done and if its not running th right oil E.g Motul 5100 then I am not suprised...

Re vibs, its the suspension. Its not setup for your weight.

Yea, in all respects the one I rode had done 20,000km, not new, and I would say they would of been hard kms, but, it's put me off them and it didn't really suit me, felt to small, the CB1300 I rode is starting to look more promising.

PS: Zapf, wierd nick, you wouldn't be the same one that belonged to SDU and have a brother Brenhan?

nice... did look at them too but just shyed away as the Hornet was heavy enought for me .... was just wondering if you got the DeBolor version... e.g with mini fairing.

Nope, just got the un-faired version. Was had for a good price as well. Rapt with it so far, very very smooth and effortless to ride. The bulk didn't worry me to much as I'm a bit of a fat bastard myself. To be honest once underway the weight isn't noticed and it feels very well balnced.

Yeah I had a demo ride on a Hornet 900 today and it was awesome! I am 6ft and 100kg and I found the bike was a very good fit. Very comfy riding position (although I would probably fit a small screen for high-speed riding), and the acceleration from the mid-range tuned old Fireblade engine is great! Made my 250 twin Suzuki feel like a scooter in comparison. I am very seriously thinking of upgrading to a Hornet now, especially at the price they are...

Well done, they are great bikes and there's no end to the mods you can do to personalise them, which is good fun in itself! Good 'do anything' bikes too. Go for it!! Oh, and WELCOME!!!

I rode a mates new-ish one and was very disappointed, the motor`s not a lot more powerful than my 600 Fazer and felt flat by comparison.Very easy to ride, felt very light and nimble but they`ve taken too much edge off the motor. Here in the U.K you can pick up a 900 for less than a same year 600 because no-one wants them, same mate got his new for £500 less than anyone would sell him a 600 new for. When I rode it I ws thinking what a great commuter it would make, probably not what Honda had in mind,1200 Bandit`s dated but much more bike for your money and it`s fun,not "capable".Come to that a 600 Hornet`s better as well, bigger isn`t always better.
