ATNR (Auckland Thursday night ride) - Discussion thread

The ATNR (Auckland Thursday Night Ride) is a weekly social gathering starting with a 1-1/2hour Ride finishing with Dinner and Drinks.


What: A ride up some great backroads finishing with Dinner and Drinks:shifty:
When: Every Thursday night after work (WEATHER PERMITTING!):sunny:
Where: Shell WESTGATE (end of the North Western Motorway)
Why: To meet other KBers, kick tyres and talk about Motorbikes:ride:
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm, ride brief and departure @ 7pm
How: On ya bike, silly!:shutup:
Pace: Open to all as long as you can do 100kph:chase:

IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT ABOUT WEATHER/RIDING CONDITIONS IT WILL BE POSTED UP HERE 5PM ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE.

With Winter riding, it is best practise to use clear visors - please keep the tints/irridiums for the summer riding! We will be riding in the dark, dont ya know! Wrap up warm, as you are at the risk of getting fatigued faster by the cold. :cold:

Weekly ride after work finishing off with Dinner and Drinks at BAR AFRICA Cnr of William Pikering Dr and Omega Place, Albany. Anyone who cannot come/not keen on riding is still very welcome to join us at the pub for a social get-together 8.30pm onwards (bring ya cage if ya want..)......

The route will be discussed on the night for a good reason :Police:. The ATNR is known to the Police, so if you wish to do 140+ speeds, suggest you go and do it somewhere else.......For those concerned about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr - 1half and is around 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at Albany. The route is changed from time to time depending on group numbers and road conditions.

Thanks to SpankMe who has put this thread as a permanent 'sticky':first:- and to think its nearly been a whole year of writing up the weekly ride...... so from now on all the ATNR details will posted in THIS thread (carried on week by week etc...) as there will not be any others made....

Absolutely wonderful weather on the North Shore, bit breezy but thats what we need to keep the fog away! Got my PROGRIP (as tested by CaN) anti-fog insert in my helmet and cant wait to try it out tonight. What an interesting ride!

It started with my little conversation with the man at the petrol station. I think once I took my helmet off and he saw the lippy and coiffured hair the rant he was having to the petrol station attendant about my supposed pushing in mellowed somewhat. I think he was surprised to see a girl...:innocent:

After the burn-out session I decided to ride at the back and played catch up to the masses only to come around the corner and find a rather mud covered rider.

After this I carried on at the back with Jonny Rotten until we came to Peak Road. At this point Swantiger and Jonny decided to turn around and check out the ditches and bridges for a missing rider. So I took over Tail End Charlie and picked up the remaining stragglers through to Dairy Flat.

At Dairy Flat there was no sign of the missing rider so we decided to continue. Just as the last of us were heading off the missing rider turned up so we sent him on to toward the pub.

At this point I climbed onto SixPackBacks GSXR1000 by mistake and rode off last again. I tried to stay behind the missing rider who was now found but decided that was far too dangerous so headed to the pub. We later heard that the missing rider who was found was stopped by the cops and found again by Jonny Rotten.

It was time for a drink at that point...



Lovely night for a ride though wasn't it...

There would have been a better place to have passed the rider further on up the road. At anytime the rider could decide to change his line of ride and BANG, you and that rider goes down, hence the reason of NEVER undertaking.


It is NOT a race but a enjoyable ride for everyone.

You are going the same way. You'll get off with SAYING you'll give someone the learn. But DOING is another thing.
On this ride, you really dont need to even pass, depending where abouts in the pack you are.
But take note to everything that is said.
You may think it was safe, but when 4 or 5 other EXPERIANCED riders say its not, you've got to start to think.
Your stunts are getting good tho. Just remeber to be courtise to other riders.

my rules for riding on the open road as follows.


here is your mission if you chose to except it is.

1# never pass on a corner!!!!:nono:
2# never pass while still in the same lane as someone else:nono:
3# make sure their is at less 100m infront of the person that you are trying to pass of clear road( eg road code):nono:
4# open road is never a race, time and a place for that:nono:
5# keep your distance behind the rider infront of you.:nono:
if these simple rules are aplyed then their is nothing that people can get mad at you for. im sure their are others that people will tell you other things as well so listen to them.
Just remember like i tell you, it isn't your riding thats the problem, its the decission that you make while riding.
