All about this?
So much angst....
"Walk with me on this one folks, yesterday the Herald on Sunday proclaimed “Twin baby girls deaths prompt homicide investigation’ – now I thought about that, and it seemed curious to me that the Police would automatically launch a homicide without getting a post-mortem first. Unless there was clear evidence of suspicious cause, surely the Police would wait, especially with the sensitivities you would give any grieving parent.

As if the death of a child couldn’t be ‘worse’, the pain must be expediential because it is twins.

Now add to all of this pain the ‘suggestion’ that ‘another Maori twin is murdered’. Add to the grief the hint in the media that the family is another Kahui beneficiary cluster/tumor. Is this the new low we accept from the media? That we would all jump to a negative conclusion, is that the ‘light’ our news media provides on important social issues, so that when innocent until proven guilty is really needed, we all fail the test?

The Police were very quick today to say that they were waiting for the coroner as the post-mortem said the death wasn’t suspicious. They also complained that it was the media who reported this as a Homicide Inquiry when that wasn’t their intent.

The horrible conclusion seems to be that dead maaaaris sell papers, because it secretly matches what the media have told us to believe.

What an ugly time we live in. "

Youre Kidding right ,Finn the great antagonist,Finn the guy that accussed inocent parents of killing their children, Finn that calls Maoris Animals and even KB members were abused by his racsit tounge, Finn the guy that was wiggling like a lowlife abusing everyone on the thread right to the very end instead of apologising.

I reckon mods should realise that they are not in a place of power, rather in a place of service... its not about egos and how important people think they are, its about staying objective and doing what is right for KB, staying within in parameters that Spank has set us.

The only person who has the right to throw his weight around is Spank... its wierd... he knows it, you know it, I know it... but he does not, he just does what is needed for the site to run properly.

IMHO, mods cop enough shit, if they do something its in the intrests of KB, no point in questioning it unless you feel genuine enough its cause they went out of their way to "get" at you

Your opinion of Finn was pretty clear by half way through the thread. No need to reiterate it here.

And please, no need to keep telling us how bad KB has become that it's full of idiots and tossers. It's a bit insulting.

Quasi, either get involved in the debate/slanging match/handbag war as a participant, on an equal footing to all others, or intervene as a moderate, with no personal opinion, and enforce the rules.

Don't blur the boundaries and abuse your power whilst still slinging the same kind of childish abuse that you are trying to extinguish.

It makes you look like a power tripping prefect that pokes their tongue out behind the headmasters back.

Joni has recently been taking a good approach towards moderating, I know we have had run ins in the past, but I believe that her approach is much better these days.

Sorry Quasi. I totally agreed with you in the original thread, but such is the nature of the web. We allow all opinions onto KB - no censorship - and because of that we need to respect it when people have different opinions to us, even if their opinions are absolutely diametrically opposed to ours.

While I didn't agree with Finn, his comments represent a viewpoint that is shared by a number of people. OK, so his way of explaining them was a little rude and insulting to some of us but hey - there are rude and insulting people all the time in life: sometimes you've just got to get on with it. And some equally rude and insulting things were said back by people who I agreed with in principle, which made me realise that EVERY opinion is going to rub someone up the wrong way. Just because it's going to be controversial doesn't mean we should stop it in its tracks. Sometimes controversial things have to be discussed - in order to instigate change.

I know I'm still a newbie here and unable to really comment on these sorts of issues, but I think the great thing about a site like this is that we allow differences of opinion without getting personal about it. And I think this one got a bit personal.

If someone posts something I want to challenge, then like anyone else I will challenge it, if as a response to that challenge they start hacking with abuse, Im ready and quite able to bash it out with Mr Finn or any of the other shit stirrers who frequent this or any other site, dont expect me to apologize for it either.

I was never involved in the thread in question until it got to the point of missing the point, bar one jibe totally unrelated to the subject in question.

I wont come to your new site for a variety of reasons and if you can't accept with good grace that I do not wish to disrespect your stated rules then I'm totally bemused.

I, for one, do not wish to talk solely about bikes, sportsbikes or topics which are only deemed worthy by those with the power to edit, censor or pass judgement on my intellect and morality via the mystical medium of the internet.

Perhaps now you have your own little power trip on the side you should hang up your moderators gloves on KB?

By all means mix it up, but don't expect to garner any respect when trying to chastise people for partaking in the same "stirring" and personal attacks as yourself.

I read through the origional thread and thought it was nothing but a lot of (very uninformed) racist diatribe. My view is that racism has no place on this board. However it looks like the real outcome of this tragedy will no doubt leave some egg on some of those very vocal faces. We, as a minority group in this country are often maligned with an undeserved image. I find it rediculous that a relatively large proportion of our posters, those that often squeal about getting their own fair representation, can easily jump on the band wagon and racially malign others based on scant information.

As to bitching about mods , these people donate time to keep the site reasonably on track, plenty of forums online with no mods that have turned to sh!t .The twins posting a perfect example. A few more of those and many of us wouldn’t bother. If you've got a problem with it, become a mod.

As to Finns bulls!it postings, I'm glad it got shut down regardless of who did it / who asked for it. What the guy has gained in terms of financial gain he's lost in emotional intelligence. all of the personal attacks and bulls**t that went on in the other thread we lost site of the real tragedy.

Two babies passed away due to unexplained reasons (yes over reacting before the full fact where in and jumping to conclusions did not do anyone any favors)

but this is on the heels of the previous real tragedy of the kahui twins .. where still no one has been charged with those murders ... that killer is still among society, smirking in the face of NZders with getting away with it ..

how different the two pictures are .. firstly we have a family who obviously loved, cared for & wanted the girls, who did not want for anything..... then we have the twin boys who suffered unimaginable pain, blatant cruelty, who were obviously not loved .. & needed everything ..

so instead of personal bashings & one upmanship ... why do we not take a moment to think of all the children in the last yr who have died at the hand of someone else.... look at your own children .. have you given them a hug today and told them you loved them ..... if not then get off here for a few minutes and just do it ...

I think one of the strengths of KB is it's wide diversity of expressed opinions. Some of these comments etc are outside the acceptable limits of our own individual boundaries but it makes you think and readdress your own thoughts and feelings on the various subjects.
KB is one of the few mediums that offer these opportunities because of the lack of censorship and stifling PC rules.
The only censorship I adhere to is that which I place upon myself and this forum affords me ample opportunities to question my own standards and values.
Please do not turn this forum into just another run of the mill PC milksop rule infested wishy washy excuse for questioning our individual values with kid gloves on.
Our current crop of politicians (all parties) are doing it to the rest of the country, without us doing it to ourselves too.
People like FINN are a breath of fresh air, you can listen and debate but it's not compulsory to agree with him. (personal responsibility and accountability)
C'mon lets keep challenging each other, it keeps us awake. John.

'Bout sums up my attitude too.

Fuck, and here's me thinking that we had so much in common that we'd be friends for life.

Oh well, I've always got Dover I guess.

As to Finns bulls!it postings, I'm glad it got shut down regardless of who did it / who asked for it. What the guy has gained in terms of financial gain he's lost in emotional intelligence. Used to have some respect for the guy. That’s dropped to nothing. But then again, who cares.....haven’t met him , wouldn’t want to meet him. No doubt due to part of my ethnic background he wouldn’t want to meet me. Finns loss. :whocares:

You've got more than a point there.

I think we should all punch the next journalist that we see in the mouth, as justifiable retribution for supporting the continued descent of NZ journalism into the sewer.

Was talking to my daughter the other day on the long commute home...

She is taking a media paper and they had John Campbell as guest speaker and she found it really interesting. Particularly his view on the duality of selling papers / TV time vrs your personal views and integrity...

His highest rating show.... Interview with Nicki Watson.....

Lowest Rating .... The Prime Minister.

I guess his point is, has journalisim dumbed down the audience or is the audience getting what it wants?

Em reckoned it was utterly fascinating and she really learnt a heck of a lot about the business - shame most of the people doing the paper didn't agree - not compulsary so less than half turned up...

Must confess the media wouldn't bother writing stories about so-called celebrities if no one wanted to read them and the same goes for television I suppose. Not that I expect them to be, but most people aren't that impressed when they hear what I do for a living. Pisses me off sometimes because I don't spend my life muckraking and writing crap about people, but sometimes I just tell them I'm a proofreader - it's part of what I do and doesn't normally cause offence!

News used to be about things that happen but now a lot of it is created news by people who want to remain in the public eye. Bit like tv - if you don't like it, do something else - don't read it/watch it!
