Fast bikes mag SBOTY (sports bike of the year) shootout. A test between all bikes regardless of CC or make.
1st GSXR 750
2nd GSXR 1000
3rd ZX636 (Nice one MD)
4th GSXR600
3 GSXRs in the top 4. Good to see a oldish ZX636 still doing the business.

Yay GSXR750!
But yeah, I agree with Cowpoos; bike mags are a bit weird. I've read at least two writeups of the RVF400 and just gone 'no, wtf?! Is that the same bike?'. No one ever mentioned of the weird engine behavior below 7000 rpm (But everyone on 400greybike knows it is there, people have posted 'fixes').
Mind you, I agree with pretty much everything Performance Bikes said about the GSXR750. But the writer didn't mention (small) snatch in going from completely closed to slightly open throttle, instead made the fueling out to be completely flawless (They devoted a paragraph to it) instead of so close to flawless it doesn't really matter.
I am acheing for a track day on the bloody thing.

Honestly, I couldn't give two hoots about what a tester (who rides nothing like me) thinks which bike is marginally better than another, in conditions I don't ride in.
If looking at a 600, or thou, all bikes in the category are soo similar, it almost totally comes down to which bike you feel more in tune with. I want Kawasaki to start making a 7fiddy again... I don't want a 600 or thou.

Thing is No10 on the test was a 'blade. Now I reckon that we must be right spoilt for choice fuckers if a 'blade, and that's an awesome bike, comes last in a group test.

The Honda RVF750 RC45 was a fully faired racing motorcycle created for homologation purposes for the superbikes category by Honda Racing Corporation. The RVF750 was the successor to the VFR750R RC30 (not to be confused with the sport touring VFR750). Like its predecessor the RVF750 featured a DOHC liquid cooled V4 4-stroke engine and a single-sided swingarm, but unlike the RC30 it utilized electronic fuel injection. The engine had a 749.2cc capacity and was rated at 120 horsepower. It was manufactured and sold in limited numbers from 1994 until 1999, being replaced by the VTR1000R SP-1 RC51 in 2000.
Honda RC45 has a great racing history. Jim Moodie on an RC45 Honda lapped in 18:11.4 seconds, 124.45mph in Isle of Man 1999 TT.
Not bad for an old bike!

Not bad for an old bike!I know all about the RC45. There are two in Ashburton if you want one. If you can prise them out of the dealers hands. I plan on owning one, one day.
I think Cowpoo's question was in the present tense. 'Who is making them', not 'who was making them'.
I would think an unmodified current GSXR750 would be able to beat an unmodified RVF, being rode by the same person. Never had a go on a RC45 so I can't really comment. But it's been a few years since the RC45 was new, things have moved on.
Sportbike V4s that a normal person could possibly own are not going to be availible anytime soon, sad really.

yep agree with ya there mate. I think the above post by the man with the triumph 675 in his sig is a bit contradictory aswell. I'd say a 675 tripple is the nice "in between" ground. More torque than a 600 and less power than a 1000.

Gixxer 4 ever
20th August 2006, 11:01
If you are going to ride the 750 or the 600 you need to use the gearbox. That is what it is for. If you wont to roll on then you need a bigger bike. If you keep the Gixxer in the7k and up rev rang you will never be short of power. If you keep it in the 5k to the 8k rang then it is easy to change up or down. In fact I never use the clutch once I am out on the road. I like the way the 750 handles and mine is getting old now. I was never one for mods but with the carb rejeted and the K/N in and the Yoshi on the back it has a tone of grunt over the standard Gixxer. The only thing that stops it being a winner on the road is me on the front cos I do not want to drop it or kill my stupid self. I got addicted to the 750 after I took a friends 1986 Gixxer for a ride. I just couldn't settle till I got one. Got a 1996 now and it makes me smile.
GO THE GIXXER.
Sorry you don't like the K5 poo's but I can not see what you want to do that you can't do. Hell man just rev it to the 11+k and it is going to give you one hell of a ride. You will be busy cos it is going to be so responsive. and if you are on the road you better stay in first.
