Greetings,
I recently had a colleague in my workshop who spotted my old ZX10 discs hanging up on the wall. He said he was looking for a clock for his workshop and commissioned me to make a clock out of one of them for him.
Thought I'd show you the result. I'm quite pleased with how it came out.
The white clock hands are a lot more visible than the photos show.

Cool looking clocks. Bit different from the wooden turned ones.

Cheers,
My business that I'm developing is being artistic with carbon-fibre and aluminium. I recently did a clock for a CEO of a Computer Company out of C/F and aluminium.
You're only limited by your imagination !!!

I guess that is a blokey design,...
The clock I mentioned that made recently which had carbon-fibre in it as well was for a lady.
Was the first letter of her name.
The pics either side are print-outs from the design off the computer I originally did.

Neat, very neat :-)
I have a pair of cbr disks waiting for the same treatment, just need a buffer, a centre bit,a movement which dosn't tick like a bomb (do bombs tick?) and talking about bombs, the garage needs cleaning, it looks like a bombs hit.

Let me know if you want me to make one for you.
My customer took delivery of the clock this morning and was extremely happy with it, which is all good :)
Cheers.

What did you use to clean and polish the brake disks?
Finished product looks very good!

On the disc, I initally used a wire-brush on my 115mm angle-grinder. Then a used a combination of steel wool and Autosol (the best polish ever !!). Then buffed with a cloth attachment on my angle grinder.
The alloy clock mount was buffed with Autosol, then sanded it with 2000 grit cross-ways like a hone to give that finish.

You can mail order Seiko continuous sweep movements from:
http://www.clockworks.com/quartz.html
Probably just as easy to buy a cheapy from the Warehouse and butcher it.

I sold this one for $100+GST, but others go anywhere up to $200.
Carbon-fibre is getting more and more expensive as Boeing uses up the dwindling supplies for it's 787 !!! (TRUE !!)

What do you mean dwindling - is there only a finite amount in the world?

Could use quite a few parts from a bike, really. The Trade Me, (or Ebay?), idea could b a little money-spinner for you?

Apparently that's correct-
Taken from http://www.shopmaninc.com/carbonpage.html
"************** Important Notice *******************
Due to the worldwide carbon fiber shortage we are out of stock of most of our carbon cloths. Please see each item's description for status or quantity limits.
We forsee a high probability of running out of all carbon cloths. Supplies are so scarce that it is very likely anyone requiring carbon fiber cloth will need to convert to fiberglass or S2 fiberglass(s-glass) to continue manufacturing.
We will keep our website updated as availability changes, unfortunately these shortages
are far beyond any control either we or any other distributor has.
Thank you for your understanding.
Click on this link for websites and articles pertaining to the shortages.
Most Commonly Asked Question:
Q. When will you be getting in more of this cloth?
A. Unfortunately we do not know. The weavers of the cloth are unable to secure the raw carbon tow used to make the cloths due to high aerospace and defense demands as well as scattered stockpiling by end users of material which makes the shortage even more severe."

I remember the last time there was a carbon fibre shortage... Rumour had it the US navy were building a stealth ship and stealthy sub (to sonar), using mostly carbon fibre.
My arrows ended up costing $45 EACH then.
On the other hand, the producers of carbon fibre stepped up production, really something like that is just like petrol with limited world supply and demand. Remember two years ago how LCDs shot up in price? Same thing, but production has now increased to a level where the price has dropped again.

Hmmm, like a piston with the skirt cut on an angle so you could have a desk clock?
Could have little con rods as hands...
