Can you get an exemption regarding the Learner's license 10pm - 5am forbidden riding time thing?

I have just started a new job, which finishes at 11.30pm at night sometimes. My motorbike is my only form of transport, and by that time the buses out to where I am have finished.
I can get the company owner to write a letter explaining this.
I am 29 and I've had a full car license for 8 years or so.
The fine for breaking the license conditions is $400! I just can't afford that, so I will have to decline that shift and lose hours because I have no way to get home.

Is there any such exemption?

Contact the local cops on here: Scumdog, bykey cop and spudchucka......

Or else ring up your local LTNZ or AA and ask them...

I think you can get an exemption, but no idea on how you go about it etc...

One of my friends was in the same situation re work and he did manage to get an exemption, so it does exist. I'd imagine that your best bet would be to pop into the AA or whoever does liscences and ask what forms you'll need to fill out.

go to the aa and pick up an exemption form. it should be in with all the other licensing forms at the counter thingy. if you cant find it, ask.
go home, fill it out, get your boss to write a letter for you, take them back to the aa, pay $20 and keep an eye on the letterbox. i did this for my job which finished at midnight-1am.
got granted no worries, but its only for a few months. [i carried mine even after i left that job, till it "expired"] never got pulled up, but just in case.

only thing, is you have to take the most direct route. i took the longest as the direct route involved lights that dont like light bikes. would have been done for running reds! so test which lights will work for you, and stick to that route. if you do get stuck at lights....which i did a couple of times, i would turn left on the red, pull a u turn and then turn left on the red again. just keep an eye out for cops.

Cop shops don't have anything to do with driver licencing anymore, contact LTNZ, AA or any other licence issuing agency.

This exemption is pretty easy to get, if you have confirmation from your employer. As someone said, pick up a form at the AA VTNZ etc, fill it in , enclose a letter from your employer, and pay $18. Should be no problem, especially at your age.

Thanks everyone, I got a DL4 form from the AA, it's what I needed. Pity about the CBTA trial being finished, it would have been so convenient!
