CHICAGO (Reuters) - Motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc. on Friday said it has entered into agreement with a South Dakota based company for the development of three-wheeled vehicles, commonly referred to as "trikes."
Harley said the plans, with Lehman Trikes U.S.A. Inc. of Spearfish, South Dakota, call for the trikes to be developed around a Harley motorcycle product platform and sold under the Harley brand through its dealers.
Harley, based in Milwaukee, has not announced the timing or other details of the product introduction.
Lehman Trikes U.S.A. is a subsidiary of Lehman Trikes Inc. of Canada.
i personally think this is harleys worst move since the v-rod. but hopefully they'll look kinda like the servi-car and not like shit.

Would this be the first production trike? I assume all trikes up to this point have been custom bikes.

That'a an interesting statement. Why do you think the V-rod was a bad move?

Harley made the Servicar for decades,it was the metermaid bike.Honda got the rights to the Ariel 3 and made the Jog...the Tuk Tuk - the list goes on,trikes have been around longer than motorcycles....and cars.No matter who's theory you follow, the trike was the first selfpropelled vehicle.

It's a marketing move to cater for aging Harley afficienados. When they're too old to hold a bike up, they buy a trike.
I'm not kidding either.
Scumdog has already ordered his.

Piaggio in Italy have been making Trikes called ape (which is pronounced Ah - pay) and means bee in the same way as Vespa means wasp.
They've been making them since WWII I think and they have handlebars on the smaller ones. Here's a pic of an old one.
