View Full Version : New Posts Link - Like it?

What do you think of the change to the New Posts link, the one that now brings up a sub menu asking if you want "New Posts" or "New Bike Posts"...
Personally, I sometimes click it just before I do something else, and then come back to find it still waiting for me to say that yes, I really do want to see new posts. Surely we can look in the forum category column to see if a post is in a bike category, or if it is in others like rave on, site stuff, etc... so we know what content we are looking at?
Also, it's quite probable that people may mis-file a new thread, and then have it missed because people click new bike posts and it isn't included. We've done a pretty good job of scanning what we want to read up till now in my opinion. What say you savage? ;) Vote in the poll above:rockon:

I'm not too keen on it to be honest. It's like extra work... too many choices.

I agree SC.
Thought I was the only one who was clicking it and going off, only to come back and it still be waiting.
To be honest I haven't even bothered with the bike option. I do my own filtering as to what I do and don't want to read.

there is room for 2 "buttons" and I use both so my preference is to put both on the bar.

Huh? There is room for two buttons because the two were added as a new feature... It wasn't vacant space or anything. Also, if it was wanted, you could add a button for every category in the sub-menu that drops down when you click the new posts link...

What do you think of the change to the New Posts link, the one that now brings up a sub menu asking if you want "New Posts" or "New Bike Posts"...When it was first added I immediately thought it would be good for those people who only want to read "bike" related threads. I clicked on the new option just to try it out but because I enjoy reading both bike and non-bike related forums the old format suited me fine.

First thought it a hassel to have an extra click from the 'New Posts' link.
Then started clicking on 'Bike posts' only for a while.
But now, I hate to think poeple are talking about me behind my back :buggerd: so prefer to filter everything myself. So Yes, it's a hassle to click twice!

Don't really like it.
When resuming KB surfing, I like to right click the 'New Posts' button to open it into another firefox browser tab window. Unfortunately, now I get the current thread reopened instead of the new posts listing.
What is the difference between the two options?

There's been heaps of car crap popping up lately. I like this new feature that allows one to sidestep the car crap in one fell swoop.

But Jim, you are a minority group now (80% against, 20% for) - So take a hike you *insert relevant stereotypical minority slur*:done:

Dear {Insert Mod/Admin's Name Here}
Please refer to the afore-mentioned thread and poll, and find the overwhelming support for having the new format of the "New Posts" menu link removed, and replaced with the old "one click for new posts" operation of that link.
I suggest moving the "New Bike Posts" link into another area, under the "Quick Links" drop-down menu perhaps?
If you refuse, the 80% of us members that are against the new format, will hikoi up the information superhighway, and block it from being used by everyone else, just because we can:done:
hehe, the part about the hikoi threat = [pt]

Hey. I'm in the minority and I demand that we be heard above our weight, because we are discriminated against! I'll hikoi down the information superhighway against your hikoi up it! And we can claim persecution by the majority! So there! That is what real democracy is about isn't it??
Seriously, I reckon one click on new posts goes to everything by default in that top menu bar, but click on the scroll down menu and still be able to choose, for some people like me who don't want to see the rant about the latest PS5 Super Online RPG, and want to hear about bikes. Having said that I still occasionally click on the other just for fun - if I have a bit more time to wander through the posts.....

The one fl-or in your poll my dear boy :sherlock: is that you posted it in the 'Site stuff' thread,, which is correct,, but those that are happily using the 'Bike only' click, won't have even SEEN your thread/poll yet!
:whocares: Ditch It!
That'll teach them for being selfish, and not being ready to enter site politics when needed.

Do you think this site is a democracy or something?

Flaw. Imperfection, fault, weakness...
I have no flaws, I am perfect. I am the essence of all things pure and right, and anyone who challenges that or implies otherwise will be the brunt of my cataclysmic wrath...
You're right, this site is not democratic, but autocratic. What I say goes, I dare thee to challenge me. [pt]
Hahaha, I got short mans syndrome, my physio measured my height the other day and found it 4 cm shorter that what I had always thought. So either my initial (and all previous) measurements were out, or my big accident compressed my spine, like my physio suggested might be the case... *jumps up and down shoutinf:angry: :nono:   *

At first I didn't like the new format for the reasons already stated, but now I just click on new bike posts to get rid of the crap that seems to be the norm on here these days
