It's a glorious day up the coast here now, and I'm busting to go for a ride, especially since the weather forecast for the next few days is crap... Paekak Hill, here I come... I won't make it to the elephant pond, but if you come over Haywards then I might see you all on the road somewhere.

I sure am glad I went for a ride last night, even if it wasn't on TCWNR, because it's hosing down here today. I had a great ride over Paekak Hill, around the Inlet, and back over the Hill. I even managed to scrape my toe around one corner, which is the first time ever on my SV! :woohoo:

Another excellent night out. 20something bikes headed up to the top of the 'Takas. Some head back from there while the rest cruised down to the Tin Hut for an ale and chips. Thanks to Pistol Pete who played sweeper. Nice to see a new face or two as well. My pillion was well impressed. It was his first time on a motorbike and he was grinning all night. He not only enjoyed the riding, but the good company too. We stopped at a servo on the way home, and he came out clutching a Bike Trader mag - I think we have a convert!

Thanks for filling in as resident ''Uncle'' for the ride sels-for those of you who turned back at the top, the wairarapa was really nice and hot beauty afternoon for a beer. Grand total of two cars and a couple of bikes on the entire hill on the way back too so no hold ups.

MikeyG lost his hill virginity too, welcome to the club!

Great night and a great ride, awesome turnout. Was my first mid week crossing of the Taka's and I was overwhelmed by the lack of traffic, had the whole road to myself and didn't have to make any dodgy overtaking moves.

Won't be there next week, I'll be playing on Takaka Hill:Punk:

sinned
23rd November 2006, 16:25
My first ride up the Taka's. I turned back at the top as didn't want to come back in the dark and the bike had just hit the 1000ks mark. It went in today for the service and is still there. Something is loose in the clutch and parts are required so I will get it back tomorrow. Might have been a good thing I didn't go all the way on the ride. I new Suzuki broken down wouldn't be a good look.

My ride up the hill was harder than I wanted. Sels1 waved me and a group past and I had no one to follow but a few behind; so the pressure was on. Sorry guys if I held you up. Then I get passed with Sels1 carrying a pillion: grrrrrrr. I need more practice.

A great ride though. Next time I will go all the way.

I won't be there. It will be another week and a bit before I get the bike back and I don't think I should take the loan bike on the ride. Don't want to scratch it. It is a lovely bike (SV650S only 400ks on odo) easier ride at low speed than the 1000s is nicely flickable but hasn't got the grunt. :scooter:

Sels1 you were right so many names and handles too many to remember and put face to name.

I think I timed my first TCWNR ride tonight about right having started riding back the other side of winter this year.

When Uncle B told me recently to start 'pushing the envelope' he mentioned coming out on the TCWNR when I was ready. My intention was to go on the TCWNR rides before xmas - so as you can imagine tonight was very special to me.

Tonight was an 'envelope' that will never be returned to sender - and will be remembered for ever.

Hey all, good to see so many of you tonight.
Just to let you know that we didn't get lost and we're ok. Went on out to go up the Takas and hit a massive road block just before the bridge into Upper Hutt and then saw Flame etc heading back so figured it was a no go zone, so turned around and headed back over the Haywards.
As ye who shall remain nameless (Kendog) had decided to fix my slightly crooked indicator on Sunday and ended up breaking it and it has now since fallen down out of sight, figured we'd better head home as apposed to trying to catch up on the Paecock Hill. So we took a leisurely cruise around the inlet and home in time for the end of Shortes St. See ya'll next time!

All that aside - so nice to see all you people out for a ride - so sorry i didn't stop but i was jumping out of my skin because i just had not had an opportunity to ride for so long - had to keep fanging off to Point Howard for the Wgn Classic M/C Club xmas do.

Humble appologies to the last rider of your group - we were both a little closer to the centre that either of us was comfortable with (nice jink btw) which given recent events probably gave us both something to think about. However both of us handled it because we were not at 10/10ths and well done that person. I certainly backed off and funnily enough enjoyed the ride just as much.

On the way back - the baleful glare of the oil pressure light turned its beady little red eye on me which caused much use of very bad words into my helmet. (I've been having mucho problems with duff oil pumps etc). We were at speed and once I checked oil was circulating I surmised the recently replaced oil pressure swithc had joined its dear departed sister in going tits up - thankfully a test at home confirmed that (el phew)...

Still - had a fecking GREAT ride - hope you did too...

On behalf of Golf Novemeber Two Five Zero, who is a little bit out of breath tapped out going up the Haywards, I had a great time and it was really good to put more names to more faces, the Kendogs [just loved that seat on the Hornet Mrs K], Julia, AJTurbo, Dafe, AD1, and you all I spoke to.

Been down the inlet side of the Paekakariki Hill several times, tonight was first time coming up from that side. Much appreciated the feedback from the rider behind me [red Ducati?], when we stopped at the top of the P/Hill.

First time out to the Waterfront bar there, definitely in the ride itinerary now.

Heads Up and Enjoy

Oh they're bad. FXR's weren't exactly designed for traveling distances or at night. The headlight has 25w bulbs. I'm told you can put slightly stronger ones in, but they don't help all that much. I'm not that worried. I've survived with them for a year and a half now and I've only got another few months til I get another bike. Until then I'll just keep eating carrots.

Thats a good idea but....

It may not be very dark until quite late.... and riding bikes in those areas full of inattentive car drivers and crowds of peds while trying to gawp at the purdy lights may not be all that much fun...

Just my opinion of course - it is a good idea...

From past experience looking at the Hutt Christmas lights, the road is packed with gawping cars, vans and buses, and the footpaths crammed with (shock, horror) pedestrians. While one bike on its own can carve a swathe through small children, the aged and infirmed, a large group of bikes may unduly antagonise the milling hoardes.

I dunno. Some people!
After getting back to the Hutt after the last CWNR I attended I ended up blowing straight past home, through Petone, Eastbourne, back up SH2, over the Haywards, around the bays at Pauatahanui, a lap of Plimmerton, back over the Haywards, then a bit more of a Tiki Tour around the valley. 150? Oh, Phoenix on the FXR? Yeah, he treats that thing like a rollerblade, eh?

That Norton could move too. I have some learning to do. Still, slowly ... slowly ...

Dave

Yeah Mr horsepower man.... :bye: That bike of yours sounds niiiiiiicee when it pearls away. Really nice.

Is there anything more fun than messing about with motorbikes?

I didn't - I managed about that time the other way round, and I hadn't bothered with my overtrou

Doesn't take long to get rather wet, does it?

Good evening, though, if a little long - having missed the start at the duckpond, I went over to the Tin Hut first, where FatJim directed me back to the Sandbar. I think that's the first time I've had to fill up twice on one CWNR

Then I get home to find I have no proper internet, and have to make do with GPRS

I too lost my KB Group ride virginity. Great to see so many KBers in one place even if I only got to talk to a few of you and forget all of the names and KB Handles :o

I must say for a "Cruisy" ride, we set a brisk pace ... but worked for me as that's my twice-daily commuter track. Thanx guys (and it was all guys tonight ... or does "Nasty" count since she turned up at the Sandbar?)

I really enjoyed the chats with the short rides in between. Isn't that what it's all about huh. Count me in for 1st up next year!

That was due to the fact there was no l-platers/newbies - prolly for the first time ever. Normally a bit cruisier than that.
Good to see some new faces - well done that man coming over from the 'Rapa
and nice to see Lias visiting from Hmtn.

Merry Xmas to you all.

If its fine next week I might start my CWNR early in the morning.....and not come back for a day or two!

Thank you. I was actually a bit off form last night. The wind was putting me off etc. etc. I def won't be there next week if its on. I'm heading down south for 3 weeks. Yay!! So see you all next year, which I shall dub: "the year of the 600"...hopefully.

I know what you mean - motorcycles of modest HP get a bit affected by the wind (especially head ones) in a way our 50+ bhp friends don't quite understand..... ;-)

ps - That car at Judgeford.... I don't know my VW's from my Mitsis apparently but in my defence it was ablaze from end to end when I first saw it...

Good point, I'm worried about mine. Does anyone know what you can get to edge my boots. I don't hit the road THAT often but they're getting the edges worn off ... and I've only had them for two weeks!

I know you can get those metal ones but they're so ... well ... Harley :(

LOL! You do have a point :)

In mitigation, that's how Honda made em in '90 and it *is* getting painted in the 2001 CBR600 yellow colour scheme - which I think is pretty cool. How committed am I to this? I've just taken delivery of my Black/Yellow suit from lifestyle-imports - very committed.

Purty. I hear these guys are pretty good on the powder coating side of things (thinking wheels), I haven't used them myself, but a hotrodder mate of mine has and sings their praises a lot.

ANyone riding in this crap tonight deserves a medal!

Well - a bigger one to the one other guy who turned up (Neil?) - he decided to take on the takas; I decided it was a bit breezy for that for me, and explored the western hills of the Hutt Valley instead - Korokoro-Maungaraki-Normandale-Belmont.

It was a bit breezy up there too ... and the elevated bits of the motorway were somewhat alarming :-)

Home safely now, anyway - hopefully Neil manages that too.
