Do you love motorsport (involving cars)?

If you do then I have a great opportunity for you!!

Normally I am involved in Targa (One of the Worlds Longest Legal Road Races) as a safety/official vehicle for the entire event.
This basically involves driving through every stage after road closure and check every intersection is as per the safety plan (road and joing interesections are taped off, all gates are taped and marshals/spectators are in the correct place).
The Targa stages this year start in Auckland and finishes in Hastings. Total closed stage kilometres of approx 770kms and 1650 kilometres touring
I cannot be involved this year due to work commitments, so this is a great opportunity for anyone that has always wanted to be involved in a hands on approach to motorsport.

The dates are 22nd - 29th October (23rd is Labour Monday)
Full training will be provided

What you need
A reliable car
Full drivers licence
A navigator ( to read the instructions)
A sense of humor

For your more information on the event please visit the Targa Website (www.targa.co.nz)

If you are interested, please drop me a PM and I will reply when I can

Cheers

When heading between intersections, would one be able to have bit of fun in on the roads, or would they be subject to the roadlaws? I have been meaning to get involved in Targa for a while, but i was actually planning on going in as a co-driver, but maybe this would be one way to help out...

Man, that's tempting! I've codriven in a few rallies and would love to do the Targa for real one day. Does your petrol get paid or is it entirely voluntary for the love of the sport?

Yes and no. The "tape crew" at the mini Targa (Rotorua) played silly buggers this year and the Police Officer who closes the road kicked them off the rally, and they are not invited back. Generally you are expected to drive sensibly, as you are an official (of sorts)

Zukin... are you talking about ACOC's or tape crews? All the ACOC postions have long been filled, but there always after taping crews and the like. Start line/finish officials I'm not sure about.
Pity your not going to be there this year, would have been good to meet you. Doing the medic thing for Targa, which is fun.

Hey Speedie
We have probably meet if you have been involved for a few years.
We are the Taping Audit Car (first car in after road closure), you may recognise the White Mitsi Evo, that us!!

As you mentioned there is a lot of sensible driving required, as often there is a lot of cars still in the stage even after road closure, however if time gets away on you (as you need to be clear of the stage at a certain time) there is often the requirement to drive a little bit faster than you would normally drive.
Safety is very important, so first and foremost you need to check that ALL gates and driveways are taped and you are required to stop at every intersection.
Of course as you are in a normal road car, normal common sense prevails as no one would want to rescue any of the safety cars.

But all in all there is plenty of fun to be had:yes:

There is also some financial contributions for those that can do the entire event.

Cheers Scott
