So who's going down on Saturday and where is everyone going to stay?
I reckon an afternoon ride down on Saturday departing sometime after lunch from the Autobahn and staying at Camellia Court (http://www.camelliacourttaupo.co.nz/)? Most people know it from FROSTY's track days.

Entry form attached. It's a generic form that also covers the 28th October date. Just make sure to fill in the date you wish to attend where it asks. Any questions, just e-mail me.

Is this for GSXR----'s or GSX----R's as Hayabusa's have been unwelcome in the ranks before as they are GSX1300R's
If your Suzuki is a GSX-R of any capacity then no problems. I will check as to whether they are willing to let Hyabusa's etc enter and update this post soon.

My folks wrote me a cheque on my behalf, would also be good to hear some confirmation. As far as organising a place to stay, must get on to it for the Suzuki trackday in Oct.

20th September 2006, 09:04
Due to a very busy last two months including an unscheduled trip to the UK and a week away at the MotoGP, I'm a little behind.
Rest assured, if you faxed, posted or e-mailed your entry you are entered for the day. As for some payments not being taken, sometimes there is a delay between us processing a payment and it appearing on your statement/account. Information about the day will be sent to all those who entered, very shortly.
If anyone is still pondering this date, get in quick, track days for $30 don't come along that often and it's filling quick. Any Suzuki GSX-R, SV model or GSR600 is welcome.
Cheers

Indeed, it's still a bargain at twice the price. Philip Island are running a GSX-R owners track day shortly as well, and their 'bargain' price is AU$147! (down from AU$179-219, season depending).

Me too, bit concerned about this 'no wheelies' stuff though?????
How do you ride a gixxer without doing wheelies????
Doing wheelies is part of normal riding to me, bit worried about getting kicked out if I have a bit of brainfade and hoist one up....

Sounds like a day designed for non Gixxer riders. What are they thinking. Also no passing on corners, Taupo doesn't have much passing places if you follow the rules. LB is gonna be frustrated.

A wise person pointed out to me the other day, when talking about the Greymouth races, no wheelies policy.
But mr Official, that wasn't a wheely, that was a standup. That wasn't a wheely, it was a one hander, flick flack etc etc....

...plus I think it comes down to common sense. I don't think they're going to ping ya for short power stands out of the corners, it's outright shenanigans they want to avoid - it's not really safe to have people tucked in at 200+ trying to maneuvre around a few yobbos doing 50km/h 12 o'clocks.

Correct. We have to keep some semblance of order.

Did the HRC day yesterday, they have no restrictions on wheelies or passing on the inside or outside. Only yobbo was some dude called Jared Love pulling wheelies everywhere. Suppose the "Instructors" are exempt from riding rules lol.
Oh maybe they should be called "Suzuki GN" days.

We put it in as a rule for the simple reason that it's a lot easier to say no wheelies rather than wheelies when you think it's safe. How would you determine whether it's safe or not?
In our opinion it just makes it a safer day for all concerned.

27th September 2006, 15:52
Is there a chance of a wheelie session at lunch time or something? It is possible to run two abreast down the front straight as at frostys last track day.
I don't like doing wheelies on the road, and the track by default is the only other safe place.

1. There is a lot of support for ditching the lunchtime wheelie sessions at Frosty's track days and pushing them to the end of the day.
2. That's what Stunt/Drag Wars days are for.
kickingzebra
27th September 2006, 16:10
Somewhere in the day, Stunt dragwars are all good, but infrequent at best, and when you are on the bike, you are in the zone. Ask the people on the day perhaps?

I have no idea what sort of public liability insurance Frosty has in place but ours is pretty comprehensive due to the variety of events we run. Our premiums are huge and we don't really want them any bigger. If we decide to do something, we will let everyone know at the riders briefing.
kickingzebra
27th September 2006, 16:14
OK, just thinking though, the indemnity should cover all that, so any crashes are not your burden, and depending on how any wheelie sessions were run, you could eliminate entirely the possibility of other people being in a position to be injured. EG one at a time down any straight.
That way only people willing to risk it are going to be able top injure themselves, and I would much rather that on a racetrack than any other place. Obviously race days are no good for wheelies, but I feel them to be an important part of a riders skill set ;)
SuperDave
29th September 2006, 00:03
Hey Chris, I might miss the rider's briefing and first session for this day, would this be okay? I will try to make it in time but unfortunately I will only be able to leave Auckland for Taupo very early morning Sunday the 10th.
I really wouldn't like to miss the whole trackday because of this.

Well done the kiwi rider crew... Was a bit mumble grumble about having to move out of the pits (OSH plan my arse) and about the day ending at 3:30 with near on an hour lunch, but when I adjusted my expectation differential for the money paid, damn good value, and the track was great.
Learnt heaps, had a bit of a yak to Craig Sheriffs...
All good fun, and looking forward to the GSXR day (good weather please!)

Isn't OSH wonderful! We also have to have a safety plan in place (insurance and public liability requirement) as it's the first thing the authorities will ask for in the event of a serious incident. Keeping the pit lane clear of all vehicles, apart from the ambulance and our recovery vehicle, is stated in our safety plan. Thanks for moving, it was appreciated.
Lunch was meant to be 30 minutes but ended up being 45 minutes. Suzuki had asked if Stroud and Shiriffs could put on a little demo for you all at lunchtime and we ran over time a little. Plus our team of professional marshalls had been in that hot sun since 9.30am with no shade and needed a bit of a rest.
It's a shame that the track, pits and paddock is still a building site (and will continue to be for a while yet I reckon) as it limits the facilites available to us.
We believe that the day offered great value for money and the 10th December day more so; $30 for a track day ain't bad value. Our youngest rider on Saturday was 16 and the oldest was 80.
See you in December, not sure if I can do anything about the weather though.
Cheers

Still not quite convinced, as the race days will also have to have such plans in place, the pit lane itself still does stay clear, only the concrete pad is populated.
All an OSH site safety plan requires is that thought is given where due. Construction industry/osh veteran hence my unconvincedness.
Maybe investigate how Vic club do theirs, as they seem to be the most on top of things at race days.
Still, well done in any event... I did enjoy myself immensely, and all in all it was well done and smoothly run. Will be a very nice facility at taupo when it is completed finally!
Can you change me into the fast group for the GSXR track day... When I signed up ages ago, I was way slower. Now I don't seem to have that problem ;)
PS, where were the fast journos?? All on leave that day or something?? LOL

Safety plan was put together and implemented by us, maybe it was too strict, but safety first. We may change this for the next day. OSH concerns regarding the construction site were Grumpy's (track manager) and he told me in no uncertain terms on the Saturday morning that nobody was to go near the building site. I took him at his word and decided that it would be easier to keep everyone away.
Race days are very different, more staff, different safety concerns, etc etc. But thanks for the comments, it all helps for future events and at the end of the day, out goal is to make sure you have a good day. I've moved you to the fast group, see you in December.
Where were the fast journo's? Hmm, I never put a helmet on all day...!
