View Full Version : Excessive use of expletives

Started out a nice day today. Spending this week commuting to Rotorua, decided today was too nice to take the ute, so took my F650. That's the brand new one, not yet had it's 1000K service. Way to go!!
Over Pyes Pa, bit of a slide on the 15K corner in the gorge, then onwards. Until the last bridge before Hamurana... Black ice!
First off in 24 years and it went down so fast I don't recall the transition between riding and sliding at all. But I DO recall the shower of sparks watching my nice new bike sliding down the road. And the number of times I used the in-and-out word...
S'pose it could have been worse - damage mainly cosmetic (couple of weeks and around 700 NZ pesos to fix), but my Dririder jacket & pants, plus my megabuck winter gloves are toast. Minor scuffing to one boot and lid never touched the deck.

bad luck What? that black ice is bad this time of year, espically around that area

See if ya house insurance will cover your gear, that is if your excess isn't pretty low

Sorry to hear of your off what?
Nothing hurts so much as seeing your new ride blazing a trail of its own.
And the cost of replacing the gears.
But thats a great road to ride, I have to look out for ice on the Rotoma's there plenty of places that the sun dont shine at all. Glad nothings broke on you though have a great day

Damage to bike isn't worth claiming on insurance, but contents should cover the riding gear. Hope so, it will cost more to replace than fixing the bike :eek5:

Oh no!! I've done that road in similar conditions on my old CBR when my Grandmother was dying. I rode through driving rain and 120km/h wind in the Wairarapa, a blizzard on the Desert Rd, and thought I'd done the hard bit. The Gorge bit was like a skating rink, and that 15k corner had me flat tracking all the way round on the ice. I stopped at the top of the hill on the Tauranga side, and the campervan full of UK tourists who'd been behind me stopped and made me a cup of tea.

I hope you get everything sorted relatively painlessly, and I'm pleased you're OK.

The ice was black - the air was blue.I'd love to have a new bike to smash up - there, does that make you feel better? Damn,I hate it when you're on the ground even before you know you've fallen off.My sympatheez.

Sorry to hear about your off, what?.

Look on the bright side. You got to see the shower of sparks. I missed it when I fell off two weeks ago. Apparently its a beautiful sight, especially when its still a bit dark. :pinch:

All the best for a fast insurance payout and a happy outcome.

Oh, I say, terrible bad luck, What?

Glad to hear you're uninjured, though. You shouldn't have any difficulty claiming the gear on house contents, either.

See, you need to swap that portly ol' thumper for a GSXR1000, right. Then, you would have been across the ice so quick that the bike wouldn't have had *time* to fall over.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Lou, I will definitley call you if my local doesn't do me the deal, though I suspect he will.
Digsaw - don't worry; the fat one already knows :kick:
Racey - I like that idea so much I will get Winston Peters on to it, but might have to go for bright green (Win not too keen on black, brown or yellow).
