View Full Version : Japanese jump on "Ugly Naked Bike " bandwagon

Yes, we all know the Japanese are famous (or infamous) for copying other manufacturers. We also know that they've done a fantastic job too. However, it looks like they're following the "make 'em real ugly" Italian naked bike trend from MV Agusta, Bimota and Benelli. Take a look at next year's Suzuki B-King 1300 and Kawasaki's Z-1000.

I can't say the Suzukis styling is overwhelming... Even the GSR600 isn't too appealing.

I'm not nuts about the new Z, it's gone all swoopy and space-cadet in some places and lost it's basic aggressive look.

dont see much wrong with the Z1000, but that B-King 1300 looks like they took the GSR600 and bet it with an ugly stick a bit more than they needed too.

Saw an ER-6F in black yesterday, looked pretty mean going down the road.

Sif, whats the point if it looks like helen clark? I'd rather go that 10th of a second slower than look like the offspring of clark and brash.

Just found this (http://www.raptorsandrockets.com/News/2007_Suzuki.htm)
A new GSF1250 Bandit, and a GSX1400R Hayabusa amongst this lot for 2007 it seems....

Here's a better look at the 2007 Suzuki GSF1300R aka B-King and the Kawasaki Z1000 from the front.

The B-King can just turn around and go back to where-ever it fucking came from. Some ugly alien-looking thing!

But that Z-Thou. . .Wow! That's hot! Don't like the zorst, but that's an easy fix!

So Suzuki are going to bring out the B-King? About time too. The photos don't do it justice. In 2003 (if I remember rightly), they were showing off the concept-bike at shows... and it was THE star. It was a real battle to get anywhere near it.

There were lots of calls for it to be made into a production model, but Suzuki seemed hell-bent on resisting any temptation to bring it to full production.

But then, three years on, we got... the GSR600 - which no matter how good it may be, is a watered down version of the B-King.

Just dug out the photos I took at the time - and it looks like they're bringing it out as it was at the show. Well worth a look as and when it arrives - in the flesh it looks so much more chunky and aggressive.

Wonder if they're bringing it out as the GSX1400 is being killed off (in Europe anyway) by the next round of emissions regulations - which are way, way tougher than any existing leglislation (they're on a par with car regs I believe).

Someone mentioned the ER-6f looking good in black. It does... but it don't look too shabby in silver either (he says, pointing at his avatar...:2thumbsup )

The worst thing about that BKing is the urine sample bottle on the bars. Why do manufacturers do that?

Sorry to disappoint you but the motor is based on what we have now. If you look at the engine layout, there's no stacked gearbox etc of the 10 motor. The Z was also supposed to be an ally frame but it's still steel too. Been discussed on Riderforums quite a bit, with pics from a guy in the States from a Kawasaki show...

Well I suppose there's nothing really wrong with the old motor but a ZX10 donk sure would have spiced things up a little.

True but so would shedding 20-30kg's... I doubt with all the extra junk they've added to it that it'll be lighter than ours... and if it is, not by much.

Tuono anyone? :Pokey:

Hillbilly
8th October 2006, 18:05
A guy just traded in a new Tuorno with only 1000km on the clock. What did he trade in on? A GSXR 1000 K6. Said the Aprilia "just wasn't me". I like it though, but apparently Arprilia are having dfficulties and parts are hard to get. Now that's *apparently* because I work at an MV Agusta/Cagiva/Benelli dealership.

I have to confess that this is true. The Tuono has been unique to ride and I'm still finding my way with it after 6,000km. Finding that it is a lot less forgiving than earlier rides. Parts have definitely involved patience but there seem to be a new batch of dealerships sprouting up around the country and hopefully this will result in better attention from Italy. I don't imagfine the flood of cheepish imports are doing the dealers any favours tho.

Heard that about the MV Brutale 910 as well. Does not like potholes and uneaven road surfaces at all.

Aprilia make beautiful bikes. Of all the naked Italian bikes the only one I'd buy (if I had enough money) would be the Tuorno.

I'll be selling my soul for that Z1000 by the looks of it, it looks incredible, I must have it

It's a shame about the Tuono, I liked the original style with the old RSV light. The latest headlight just looks ridiculous
