View Full Version : Hyosung GV250 exhaust modification

We heard about the silencers being removed from the exhuast of the GV and my Girlfriend wanted it done to her bike. So after the 1,000 km service I got to work removing the end rivets which mount the silencers inside the exhuasts.
I'm not going to go into depth about what I did, however here are some pictures which explain it more easily than words could.
But in a nutshell:
You'll need a drill with a 4 - 4.5 drill piece
Pliers to pull the silencer out
And a magnetic tipped screw driver
Drill the center of each rivet until you go all the way though
Once drilled, pull the silencer out with the pliers, with a little bit of force
If it doesn't come out easily, try drilling the hole a little wider with a bigger drill piece
Once the silencer is out, use the magnetic tip screw driver to remove any shavings from inside the exhuast
Also use the screw driver to remove the other end of the rivets which will also be inside the exhuast
Don't worry about the shavings and rivet pieces falling deep inside the exhuast. There is a second plate about 3 - 4 inches in which prevents this.

Before and After in WMV format and approximately 2MB in size.
As you can hear from the before video, the exhuast silencers do their job quite well. In the after video it sounds a bit more throaty but the recording quality doesn't provide a true impression.
The result, it definitely sounds nice around town, not loud but not so quiet either. At open road speeds you'll definitely want to be wearing ear plugs or the right ear drum can get a little tingly.
I'm not really into loud bikes, but this modification gives the bike a bit more character and it sounds good without being too loud.

Hi, great post. Can you tell me, is there any impact on performance like when you mod a car exhaust? I've got an 09 gv250 and have been thinking about doing this. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Cheers

I doubt if he did a dyno test before/after ... and may only be relying on ... sorta feels different ...better ... maybe ...
I'm guessing two things may be lost ... horsepower (untill re-jetted ... and 1/2 a horsepower at the most) and in a month or so ... HER hearing ...
It will be interesting to see how long before she's stopped by plod for "operating a noisey vehicle" ...

I did it on my Hyosung GV250, Intruder clone, and never had a problem getting a WOF.
