Just wondering if anyone is going on the Suzuki GBI Adventure Ride?

I've heard that DOC are opening up a lot of trails that have traditionally been DOC access only (not even trampers allowed), and I know from living on the island that the forests over there are just spectacular, as are the gravel roads you'll be riding on. If you are an adventure rider, I can't imagine it getting much better than this, especially the way the weather is shaping up for the weekend.

If you are going over there, take plenty of fuel, it's been well over $2 per litre there for years now, and that's for 91 - there's no 96 available on the island.

Went there, did that.
Great ride, the weather was perfect and yup, we got to ride some DOC forest track. Gravel roads were fun too, although there's less gravel now...
Mike Britton did a good job considering the range of machinery. Accomodation, food, interesting natives, stunning beaches, casual après-hoon mayhem, all good.

I gutted I couldnt make it. Do you know if it will be on again this time next year? And did you make the trip up from Lower Hutt to do it? Good effort!

I don't think they'll confirm it for a while yet but they've done one every year since at least '99. Mail Britton's and ask them to keep you posted.
Less than perfect effort, two of us took the bikes up to Ak on a truck and stayed at a friends place Thurs. Glad we did, would have arrived knackered before the fun started. Would have also trashed my new S12s.

Good stuff, I'll email him and hopefully will catch you on the next ride. I'm surprised I havent heard about this before now, admittedly I moved off the island on in '95, but my mother still lives over there and I go out there several times a year.
