hey guys,
Just browsing through the documentation for the nationals, and stumbled across the part about transponders.
They hire them for $60.00 for two days (subsidised by the clubs to $30)

Over 5 meetings, that is still a decent whack of cash, if we wish to own our own units, then Vicky at MNZ is trying to put together a group buy for a good discount. I registered my interest with her today, they want all interested people to give them a call no later than october the 31st.

Might be worth a few dollars in the bank (and maybe a saving at club level, I don't know?)

If you are keen give her a ring or email on vicky@mnz.co.nz or 07-828 7852

Cheers!

Edit: They are worth $513.00 Australian Dollars, excluding GST so any saving would be a good one!
300 odd for hire, or 600 ish (hopefully cheaper) and never have to pay again.

just a heads up. We (VMCC) have been talking to AMB in australia and can get a discount if we order 30 transponders at once. If anyone is keen, then let me know. discount would be about 15% and would apply to both rechrageable and direct powered models. Offer applies to vic club members only.

This increase will also affect the winter series from now on. Everyone's been getting free stuff from Tim Gibbes for over 6 years now, so it's only fair if he wants to cover his costs.

So if you are planning racing for a couple more years then buying a transponder will pay for itself, and i'm sure a second hand market will spring up.

Are we talking about just the part that fits on the bike? How would this work if I got one and took it along to a test day? I presume I would need other parts to the system to make usable readable lap reports?
And are you saying there will be discounts on our Vic series entries next year if we provide our own transponder?

yes. just the part that fits to the bike.

still wouldn't get lap timing at test days, cos although the timing loops are built into the circuit they are still all owned by tim gibbes and you need all his computer stuff to process the transponder signals.

entry for winter series next year will be pretty much along the lines of the upcoming natonals. if you need to hire a transponder it will be $30 on top of the entry fee per day. but if you have your own transponder you obviously won't need to pay this.

Is it gonna be worth talking to MNZ, and getting everyone in the country that we can think of in on it? might be able to wrangle a few more dollars discount, and could have a bulk order of them, just bring em along to the events, and those that have paid can take them away!

about 5 mx clubs around the coutry own the whoel system, although the transponders are different (the mx ones only work to 120kph) the whole setup is not that expensive, when our club ordered them we got the same discount for 60 units that we ordered,

my understanding was that the clubs hired him and his equipment to run this system at National events?
