hey guys, i enjoyed being out on friday night howeva i have to agree with Seph because once you guys started competeing i did not want to participate due to the speed and the environment.

I think you lot missed this point, the slower or learners need to get out there to and I think you can organise it so they can have a go, why not have a couple of groups ie fast and slow ??? works on the track dont it. Gives newbies the chance to have a bit of fun without having faster riders intimidating them? just a thought

ah, but too much organisation is bad, learners get passed on the straights (zero index, sayam5, and crazy steve)
to be honest it all started as just hooning around. a problem is i would always go into the noob group, but seriously, some learners like jeremy go hard, and sarah goes slow..just get out there and get used to it, once you do it aint bad, and also anyone can use it at any time, cause once us idiots have had enough its empty!
good to see your 14 on the track, i was having a giggle!

Yeah the whole organised thing will work. As more and more people come some control and rulz will need to be put in place. It will stop some one getting hurt and put into hospital. seeing people standing at the exit of the turn basically where the zzr ended when up is not the best move. If someone did it again then it could have got messy.

Yep, I am a Kirby salesman. Managed to sell my first Kirby today (Saturday afternoon) during my 4th demo :) Almost got a 2nd sale from my 6th demo, but they have much higher priorities at the moment (getting NZ Citizenship), but as soon as that's done, I've got another sale :)

Hope to make the Wednesday night ride, although if I've got demos to do at that time, I'd rather try and make a sale :first:

Excellent I now know that 5 Steinlargers is not too much, or their machine is crap! Excellent to see some new faces on thier bikes. Careful Translation:
Hello everyone, I just bought a new bike, and it's already been for it's thousand km service in the first 6 days that I've owned it. I was trying to show off last night riding around in Hamilton, and took a off-camber right-hand corner a bit too quickly for the lean angle, and got more than the footpegs down...

Location: Coming from town across the Bridge Street bridge turning right at the traffic lights (next to United Video, cnr Bridge & Grey Street)

You people really need to learn how to ride you know that? Shirley seriously don't pay much attention to learning what these guys are trying to do.

It was ok to start with guy but now it's really getting out of hand. Riding stupid in the parking lot was not really good but atleast you wouldn't get to hurt there, but now some of you are riding the same way in the streets and that could get you killed.

Fine enough on your own but don't try teaching others how to be a danger to themselfs.

Agreed, that's with the whole riding to 80% of your ability, so you have 20% in reserve if something out-of-the-ordinary happens... going 80kph through an off camber traffic light to the right is one of those riding above abilities, and it probably would include a lot of experienced riders in that too...

This is actually a long topic about riding to your ability, but leaving some of your ability 'in reserve' for the strange shit that happens on the road, like dogs, people, cars, difference in road surface etc.

I've been down three times and one othere where I flew to Christchurch and rode back. So not a problem just if you're wanting to go for more than 2 days or in the middle of the week you'll have to let me know a week or so ahead of time so I can get time off work.

so you're gonna buy a bike outside of your license conditions .. crash again ... and because of no insurance .. never ride again, coz you've blown all your money?

when you've got kids .. you'll be able to tell them how much money you wasted on bikes as a young person .. and how they have no idea how much it will cost them

All because you want to go faster?

Try having a chat with someone who really knows how to ride a 250 eh?
Road Rash, Momentum, ... how about that bloke standing next to you all the time *cough* carver *cough*
I've got $10 that says he knows how to a ride a 250 properly

i don't think he wants to go faster.. i gather he's looking at other options because he can't afford another 250 sportsbike..

is insurance really worth it for a 3 to 4k bike? maybe third party..

i love gsxr11's, i think everyone should own one.. perfect bike for Warr

yea thats more the idea...my fzr was plenty fast enough for me and im looking at those bikes as an alternative in case mine is written off and i can't buy it back...theres no way i can afford another 250 sports for 3300 unless it's in shit condition and i'm not going to go back to 150s or a gn

i was going to get some help with riding over the next 2 weeks as i have teaching recess at uni as well as upgrading my licence since i've been able to since june 06 but the temptation of a quick ride was to much and as murphy's law would have it on a short spurr of the moment ride i take a dive and mess the thing up

if they wirte the bike off i'd be willing to buy it back for less than 1500 otherwise i'm gona be in the car for a long time to come:bye:

fuck paying that much for a 250.. when i trashed my nsr i went straight to a NC30.. stuck the nsr plate on a 88 gsxr11 (import, never been registered) hooned around on that too..

Who gives a fuck what people think, buy what you can afford.. the goose would be a cool bike thou..

The Flux Capacita

it's a viable option... i don't know much about the goose though being a single because my fzr was nearly as fast as carvers gs500 in regards to hp...so my limited knowledge suggests to me that the goose may actually be slower anyhow and it's cheaper than a decent 250

Excellent ideas, I remember when I went for my first ride in Hamilton and tried to keep up with the others (I'd had my bike about a month I think)... almost died (well it felt like it twice). I guess I was lucky that night, we stopped and I was given some advice... just like you've leant... RIDE AT YOUR OWN PACE. Good advice but not always easy to do... maybe it's peer pressure or something?

haha i think i remember that...i was following your lines for some of that ride and just about followed you off the road...assuming i get my bike back together i'll save that practise for a track from now on and just listen to my mp3 player and cruise on the roads i don't know...they always wait anyways i mean im only on a 250

speaking of which here's another one i found which although not as good as my old one and more expensive...would still do the job till license upgrade

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=94730007

$4000 is a bit steep for the mileage but my bike was a real bargain so i guess that would be about market value...DAM 250's are way to expensive compared to 400

Yeah, don't follow other people's lines. It's really tempting to do it, to use the guy in front as a reference point and let him choose the lines, but consider the following questions:

Are your bikes identical? Same tires, tire pressure, brakes, weight, power, chain slack, rake, lean angle, etc? If not, why are you riding a line which isn't tailored to your vehicle?
How much do you trust the guy in front to get it right? Is he a less skilled rider than you? Then you don't want to trust his lines! Is he a better rider than you? Then you don't want to try his lines because they're beyond your skill level.
How far ahead are you looking? Usually you follow about two seconds behind the guy in front, right? Any further and you'd probably lose sight of him in the bends anyway. But how far ahead should you be scanning? No less than three seconds; more like five. So if you're watching the lines of the guy in front, you're riding the front wheel and you won't have sufficient time to deal with any unexpected situations.
Riding someone else's line is a form of target fixation. If he messes up his line, you'll see it happening—but because you're watching him, guess where you're going. That's right: wherever he's going! If that's into a truck or rockface, sucks to be you.
Just some thoughts (: When you're riding roads you don't know (heck, or roads you do), the amount of distance it will take you to stop should be at least as far ahead as you can see. If you can't see ahead as far as it will take you to do an emergency stop, you're going too fast. The street isn't a race-track; riding in reserve carries much higher penalties sometimes on the road than on the track. Hitting hay bales sucks; hitting an oncoming vehicle or a barbed wire fence sucks more.

Oh, regarding that CBR, ask the guy if he has a maintenance history of any kind. You'll probably be SOL; especially judging from the description. But it's handy. I keep a detailed maintenance history of my bike, even down to the detail of fillups (litres used, reserve litres used, type of riding I was doing, kilometres traveled on the tank). It doesn't just help potential buyers; it's really helpful for your own purposes. Also, ask him what "high grade" oil is. Big deal, it cost $55. But what was its rating? Was it synthetic or dino? That's more pertinent. And since his fiancee has decided not to ride, having "lived and learned"...what caused that? Was it dropped? It doesn't look like it from the photos but eh...always good to ask.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious. Looks like a nice bike though; you should get some good riding out of it.

Thanks; I'm glad to help (: Riding is a very academic enterprise in many ways. It's easy to make the bike go places, but to do it in full control takes a lot of understanding, as well as just plain old practice. Getting to that point isn't just a matter of experience, but also of learning. I reckon the riders who have already learned this stuff ought to take the time to share it with those who haven't. That's why I join these sorts of forums. Honestly, I'm not a really sociable guy...I just love riding, and sharing knowledge about riding. I don't pretend to have mastered motorcycling myself, but I know a reasonable amount about it, and I've been blessed with the ability to put my knowledge into words well enough. More knowledgeable riders should consider it an honorable responsibility to share their knowledge with newbies. It could save someone's life.

I've actually found motorcycling to be a lot like martial arts. I study and teach European martial arts (see http://swordsmanship.co.nz) as a serious enterprise, rather than as a stage-fighting or role-playing thing, and you really have to have a handle on the theory to get good. Yeah, there are people who have natural talent; but I've seen people who don't have talent cane those people who do, simply through applying knowledge of biomechanics, timing, distance, and so on. Obviously, talent + study = orsm, while no talent + study = less orsm, but I think often people under-estimate how much difference study makes. If you really understand what's going on, you don't have to rely on your instincts (which may be wrong), and it also means you're far more mentally prepared when a crisis does arise, so you can stay calmer and be more pro-active, rather than panicking and reacting as seems best (which is often not best at all). I started studying martial arts well before I got into motorcycling, but I am still often struck by how oddly similar the principles are.

Okay, I'm a bit autistic, but I've heard of a few people who document everything obsessively, and it helped them out a lot in the long run. For example, taking note of how many kays you get out of a tank is handy if you can plot it over time: if you notice it decreasing it's often an early warning indicator of something else that could be way more of a problem if you don't catch it early.

I may not make it this friday.

Due to my lack of working gear shifting mechanism I've been having to slip the clutch for about 10 meters in 3rd...except after work tonight I noticed some smoke drifting with me.

I killed the engine, then when I tried the electric starter again it wasn't turning over. When I tried kicking it with the clutch in the rear wheel still turned...I don't think thats right. I'll get the gear shifter together tomorrow and see what happens.

I think I've done something to the clutch although the lever still feels like its got plenty of spring tension on it. oil probably was rather cold, and low, which probably not good.

Shouldnt be too much. When you 'over-use' your clutch it is usual for it to continue slipping. In your case it wont disengage. Bent plates - perhaps but would be odd.
I'd check the adjustment of the lever, wind it out a bit to reduce the free play and also check the other end, if you can see it. I dont know about your bike, but sometimes you can see the actuating lever at the engine end.
When you pull the clutch is all the movement being transfered or is the cable loosing it somehow... as in stretching.

......The problem with using your brain when you ride is you end up worrying too much on what you're doing instead of having fun... just become one with the bike and flow through the corners like Warr... Warr is the MAN!!!!!!
Bling for then man ... Daylight and corners are better than the dark :)

I'll be out tonight in the freezing cold... went into town last night just so I could ride my bike, park in town, had a cigarette, then left town on the back wheel :p

Was that you fulluhs riding out to Raglan about 4 pm today? I recognized a red Hornet, and what looked like Carver's fugly yellow dirt bike, along with some orange faired thing and an old 400-500 cc white and red. Maybe one other actually.

yup, that was us... it was actually an yellow faired thing... cbr250 to be exact...

The way back from raglan was purely evil... firstly, me, Carver and Sidewindow decided to try a really dumb but fun stunt... me on bitch-seat on Carver's bike, and then I got bored and jumped off Carver's bike, and onto Sidewindow's bike. We'll probably do it again tonight just because it's so much fun  :Punk:

And then was the SH22... in which Sidewindow ran a slight bit too wide, and he now has scratches on his tank, and his headlight doesn't point straight anymore, but I'm sure he'll fill everyone in on that story tonight :gob:

I dont imagine the owners gonna be too happy.

Did the cage careen out of control because of diesel on the road? I'm riding like a nanny on Te Rapa Straight tonight..

i think so.. the shop owner said he camped out in front of his shop that night after it happened and reckoned it was going to cost him two weeks of lost business while repairs were made.

I figured something like this would happen one day, it was only a matter of time. Imagine if there had been a whole row of bikes parked out there, they would have got taken out too :dodge:

If this diesel issue is an every-Friday-night occurrence, why are the cops not doing something about it?

they've been showing up a lot lately, blocking off the roundabout while the service crews try to cover up the diesel with sand.. but they can't be there to stop the madness all the time. The really determined ones will always come back, public property be damned
