Hey just wanted to let you all know that I have had a riding incident today. Coming home from playing on the Paihiatua Track, I lowsided coming around a tight left hander. Had all my leathers etc.. on and have come out of it unhurt. Bike has minimal damage see attached photos.

Thinking of reasons why it happened?

- Riding on edge of tire
- Diesel on road

Will have to go back for another round tomorrow, after checking to see if there was diesel on the road!

So really just want to let people know that I am ok.
See you all at Manfield saturday!

If anyone would like to discuss this with me and give me some reasons why this might have happened, lets hear it!

Glad your ok...........annoying though eh...........did the same thing on my bike awhile back....take that cover to any good panel/paint place and they will tidy it up good as new for a lot cheaper than a new one......

Yeah man, glad to hear there's no real damage to you or the bike. I'm looking forward to seeing another CBR in the Streetstock Series next year, so don't wreck it buddy.

Probaly dirt, diesel, oil shit on the road mate, possibly tyres but would have to see pics to really know.

Always check your tyre pressure before you leave, and if you gas up, give em a quick check and adjust according to load on the bike (fuel, gear etc). makes a huge diffrence on the bike handles and balance.

Hiya MattRSK,

Gald to hear you are ok. Yes, it is a learning process but we can all learn from others incidents as well.

Were you braking hard into the corner? Did the front wash out first or the rear, or both wheels together?

Do you think you were over braking into the corner on the front or rear brake?
Do you think that you were in to hot?

Be interested if none of the above, if there was indeed diesel.

Not an interrogation, just that we can all benefit from others experiences as these things happen along the way. We don't come off for no reason and there's no point coming off if we don't know why or what caused it.

My own offs have been lucky as well as far as damage and injury go.
The last one, was a second of inattention and not knowing the road which meant I went into a blind right hander way too hot.

The previous one a few months earlier than that, the rear broke lose on a corner. There was sand between the chip seal on the bend but I also think I trail braked with too much rear brake pressure which caused the rear to try and overtake the front.

Bugger mate, but at least you are ok, good to hear that!

Hey Beyond.

I have been sitting here thinking about what i had done. I was fully leaned over knee just sort of touching the ground. No brakes. Smooth roll on of the throttle and then the rear let go. I didnt think i was going to fast. I would like to check again to see if there was oil or anything on the road, but most likely there would be something that I did.

Hiya MattRSK,

Ok, I figured as much. Sounds like you were doing everything right. I went back to where my rear shot out the day after and couldn't find anything definitive on the road except for some sand grains between the chip. I wasn't satisfied that this caused it. I had ridden 500kms that day a lot harder than I was taking that particular corner.

If you don't find diesel or similar it will be one of those mysterious incidents where you won't know the cause.

I still feel I never got to the bottom of it with mine and it always leaves me unsettled as to why? I like answers and you sound like you do too. Never had a probelm since and I used the same tyres for a while with no problems.

Might always remain a mystery. :(

Yeah of course, I would love some answers. Will go back out again tomorrow. Starting racing next year so would be nice to know what I can do different.

Maybe you should buy a Horse?

Glad to hear you're o.k. The Pahiatua Track is rutted to hell in many places due to the massive number of trips the Kiwi milk tankers go over it. Hurry up & get a job in Welly so you can play on the Taka's every day.

they have done alot of work on the track. It is a real nice ride over it now. Still have to be aware that it is not a racetrack but if you cut across out masterton way it is a good loop.

Hell yeah. I am hanging out for a job eh. Coming down next Wednesday to do some door knocking. The Takas are awesome, they scare the crap out of me. Thats a good thing.

Thanks for all the replies people.
The track is real rutted in some places but there is a real long smooth section that I play on!

i had a good play on the takas last weekend. at least going up from featherston side was good. got to the top and there was a definite line across the road. coming down wellington side was 1st and 2nd gear. Couldn't see 2 feet in front of me. not fun at all.

Yeah once again thanks to everyone for the replies. Lucky there was no cars on the road, thats what im thinking now.

I think I'll have to agree with Dover this time, I've seen more damage done to a bike during a U Turn fall over. That cover hardly looks ground touched, what realy happened?

It is a pretty light bike.

Just got back from having another go at the track. Yeah yeah I know, I should be at work. I took some photos of where I lowsided. I am happy enough to say that It would have been rider error, although there is a neat little slip that I could blame it on now. I am sure that wasn't there when I crashed though. Nice day out there today, do I need to remind anyone what a beautiful country we live in.

Yeah thanks for the support Dover. Appreciate it. This been my first off and all. At least I'm back out there riding. Maybe a mod would like to change the title to medium speed low side to satisfy dover.

I don't see any horse shit on the road, but there is some silt from the slip - you didn't slide out on that did you ?

This may not be the answer, but I had a similar 'off' on my ZX-9R (RIP)::bye: .

I only had it a month when I completely lost the front end on a left hander not going particularly fast.

Trouble was I hadn't changed any suspension settings from the muppet who owned it before me. It had bugger all rear preload so when I sat on it the rear end sagged far too much causing the front end to rake out like something from West Coast Choppers. This meant there wasn't enough weight over the front end to keep it stuck to the floor.

I know the 250s don't have much, if any, suspension adjusment but they usually have a preload collar at the back. My first bike was an FZR 250 which I maxed out the preload and pulled the forks through the yokes a little to tip it over the front end a little. May make it a little twitchier, but experiment with the fork height.

It's worth a crack - after all you're supenders are getting on a bit and they were designed for light-ass japanese in the first place.

I've got my TLR set up tipped on it's nose, and it rocks:Punk:

good advice there, I have my cbr tipped forward (rear pre-load on max and forks pulled through yoke an inch) and it handles really, really well. forks are still abit soft for my liking but...
glad you are alright man, keep on :scooter:

Good to hear you're okay!

I once had a nasty moment on diesel, coming out of a corner riding a Yamaha XC125 two-up (yes, the Beluga scooter with top-box), didn't crash but slid & wobbled onto the other side of the road, bloody good thing the traffic there had moved on :gob:

Turns out it was boy-racers who'd spread the stuff on the road ... personally I think people who do that should be charged with something akin to criminal endangerment.

Glad your ok.

But you did not have a "high speed" low side on that corner.

No I think we have determined that. Thanks everyone for your comments. Has given me much to think about.
