Me and my wife meet on irc as a matter of fact, i use to go around abusing people, getting myself kick/ban from chat room and hacking myself back in(you do strange things when bored) and she wantted to find out more about me. Took ages to before we meet, i in orcland and she in tauranga.
But now we are coming up to 7 1/2 years together married for over 6 months now.
Well my groom's speech at my wedding explains it all:
"As some of you will know, every year there is a folk festival in the Oxfordshire village of Cropredy. A regular bunch of us would meet up each year. One year, one of the regular crowd brought someone with her - her daughter Laura.
Over the next couple of years we would meet and talk... then one year sitting in a field with a combination of a hell of a lot of cider, freezing cold weather and the need to share body heat... and one thing led to another. And four years later, here we are on our wedding day.
The moral of this story is; if you're drunk and you find something on the floor in the middle of a field... for God's sake leave it there!"
Known each other since 1995, got together in 1998, married in 2002. We honeymooned on the South Oxford Canal, just so we could travel to the village where we first met!
We've also been in the local (to the village) newspaper (Banbury Guardian) because of our meeting at the festival - they ran a feature on us a couple of years back. Nice to become a piece of festical history, seeing as it is how we first met.

That was 24 years ago...we were engaged for 4 years and just coming up for 19 married.

Once Open a Toim, I met Mrs FS in her Student Village room the day before uni started - Feb 28 1978 - when a friend of hers invited me and another weird mate of mine there. She was not amused (and also thought we were weirdos).
I thought she had nice hair (and she still does). We got on OK after that, but a couple of weeks later at a dance she ignored me. So I went off with her friend. As you do. When you've been rebuffed, and your 'girlfriends' friend thinks you're nice.
Next time I saw her, she told me to get lost. Normally I would have, but this time I thought, "Hello; that's weird - she seems quite upset, there's something going on here!" and persisted. (And a friggin persisting persister I was too.)
Eventually we sorted out the misunderstanding, :love2: and even more eventually ended up living together for a few years :love2: :love2: , then even even more eventually (1982) we got married, :love2: :love2: :love2: had three weirdos    of our own, and moved to Christchurch, Tauranga and D'Auckland.
And they all lived happily ever after.
The End.

I met Vicki after we both came back from the big OE experience. Both were broke!
I used to work with her sister and one of the blokes said to me on my second day back (remember when companies held your job while you went and drank all the beer in germany?) at work... "$$$$'s sister works here now" Oh, I said, Dos she look like her sister? Nah! She is dark haired and (insert full description here but it would bore you all so i won't)
Needless to say I shuffled off to look at her...
She had her back to me but it was like being struck by lightening.. A little speech bubble appeared above my head and informed me "this is the woman you will marry" ... Love at first sight!
Needless to say she needed a bit more convincing. Especially as I had a totally undeserved reputation.. I mean I wish I HAD done half those things..
But, one day she had too much week left at the end of her pay and accepted an invite out for a drink and to listen to some god awful dorkland band in a pub that since caught fire and fell down....
Went out, lived together, married 1980. Still married, still in love, still broke...
Cheers

Mine was the result of a bit of match making from my ex girlfriend. I'm still really good friends with my ex (who also happens to be my wifes best friend) and she decided we should meet each other and go to dancing lessons as a non-commital way to spend some time together. after 6 months I asked her out (I'm so slow that my wife apparently asked my ex whether I was gay to account for my lack of inaction- true story, told at my wedding!), dated for 2 1/2 years, engaged for 6 months, married on June 12 (I now have a massive 25 days of experience in the marriage field) and now we're living together and loving it!

First met Ang at Candios nightclub in Wellington , She was out on a hens night. Brought her a drink and had a dance. Thought things were going pretty well ...
Couple night's later I give her a call. Talked for about 20 mins or so , Said she was too busy with work / uni to go out. Didn't think any more of it.
About a month later I go to a mate's 21st , Ang is there with one of her mates . We have a few drinks (Ok, lots and lots) and start dancing around. One thing led to another so I end up going back to her place , ended up talking a lot. Stayed the night, the next day she drops me home on her Xj600 motorcycle. I was very impressed !(She got me into motorcycles as well as Jim2).
Couple of days later I moved in. Brought a motorcycle shorlty after.
Been together 15 years yesterday (married 5).
I have the prefect wife (hey , she's into motorcycles and still puts up with me.)

My wife was grazing a horse on a property I used to shoot rabbits on.
She was there one day when I turned up an we got talking.
She was one of the few girls I'd met that didn't have a problem with shooting,
I also had an interest in horses,so :2thumbsup

Met my wife on the beach. She was with her two girlfriends. Well to cut a long story short the first time we went out was to her school end of year dance. I am ten years older than my wife and to be honest at first I did not take her very seriously at all. Like ten years, nothing now but bloody hell she was still at school when we met. She went off up to the Sounds to work for about six weeks. I partyed all the weekends (this was in the Xmas New Year and I was working at a night club at the time.) and now on occasions we wonder if our relationship ever would have taken off if she had not gone away. It was definatley not love at first sight or indeed second sight. When she came back I asked her out as I wanted to see Disney on Ice. This was an ice circus and being an ice skater from old and her so young compared to me ............well what did I have to loose. It was that point that her opinion of me changed and I saw someone that I had never known or wanted to leave. She was different and being alone together for the first time allowed our own personalities to bond. Been bonded for thirtythree years years and married for twentynine. Love her as much now if not more.

A friend, who is a member of this board, introduced our small group of riders to another person he knew, and this opened up a whole new field of new aquaintences. He was a riding instructor and took a couple of girls he was teaching under his wing, they weren't into the latest shiny bikes, they loved the sounds and smells and mechanical side of British bikes, and as he rode a Triumph they were sold.We are all still friends today.
We knew each other for a couple of years and it was obvious there was an attraction on both sides - but she was my best mates girlfriend, that was a bit of a bugger. Finally on the last day of 1976 I returned home with a rattleing big end on my BSA,to find she was home with a leaking gearbox in her Speedtwin - and her boyfriend had gone and left her stranded.Well,I'm leaving for Taranaki in 5 mins in my pick up,grab a toothbrush and lets go....so off we went.We took a long time to get back to Auckland,we just kept turning right.
The resulting drama when we got back would have made me a millionare on reallity TV,but we didn't have it then. There were punch ups and yelling that went on for months,I was fighting with my best mate over a bloody chick - but I knew who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with - and it wasn't him!
So now we have 4 kids and are still happy with each other - well I am.I reckon she was a steal for a black eye and a split lip.

A mate's sister introduced me to the now Mrs What? via the blind date method. We didn't think much of each other at the time, both having negative attitudes after previous relationships (I had a t-shirt that read: "The more I learn about women, the more I love my motorcycle"). But somewhere, somehow, it all started to gel and eighteen months later we married. That was 6 1/2 years ago now.
Fortunately, Mrs What? knew that taking me on meant bikes, fishing and firearms, so none of the woosy compromises we hear some people making to pay for their slice of pie. Meanwhile, I let her carry on gardening...

I met Beth at a church camp in Tauranga new Years 84. Earlier that day I had been showing off on my bike by pulling a mono on the grass, forgetting that i was on a road bike and not the trail bike that I used to ride. I fell off in front of a bunch of girls and broke my collar bone, bent my handle bars and severly bent my pride. Having a free afternoon a bunch of us guys went to the hot pools at Welcome Bay. I saw this red head there who I had seen at the camp and knew instantly that she was going to be my wife. I went over to her and spoke to her a few words about myself and walked off to be with my mates. unknown to me Beth had earlier asked God that her husband be like such and such, a list of five attributes. Those few words I said to her was exactly what she had asked God for, to in her future husband. Except for the fact that I was in the Navy
In Feb at my fifth birtday fancy dress party (I'm a leap year kid) I told her that every thing was off I had a bad case of cold feet.
God impressed Beth to move move to Auckland where she moved into a girls flat from the local church in Takapuna. I had been living in Devonport but my mate wanted his flat back, as he had come back from England, I moved into the guys flat that was next door to the girls flat.......

Bwahahaha! Go KK! I have met her, and I tell ya, she's blody lippy. Never lets KK say anything. Got him by the short and curlies for sure.....
We met over the crushed body of a motorcyclist who was bleeding badly.
Then talked more while a little old lady was having her hip replaced, and chatted about how much blood the previous patient had.
Tired and hungry after a long miserable day at work with no break; I shared my dinner with her, and a connection was made.
She was an excellent MTB'er, and kicked my arse all over the forrest. I was not happy, but impressed. So I impressed her back. (Somehow, I don't know, you'll have to ask her).
3 and a bit years later we is still happy, but I'm being a bit slack about the tramp down the isle.

When I came to Wellington just over 20 years ago, on my first day at my new job who should be sitting in the adjacent office, resplendent in her magnificence but the person who at a later date would become Mrs H!! I had never before that point in my life believed in "love at first sight", but I can personally attest to the reality of this phenomenum (for me, that is. It took Mrs H a while to come around to a similar view...). We didn't "hook up" until she left a few months later for another role in a different organisation across town and I missed her so much it hurt, so I took appropriate remedial action. We've been together now for about 19 years and married for 17. Mrs H is the very stylie and commited rider of a Suzuki VZ800K3 Marauder.

As I suspected, it's been really cool to read all these stories. It is quite encouraging to see that a lot of you couples actually do have motorcycling as a common intrest/passion. Thoes who do not have partners who ride, I don't suspect it being an issue at all, as there are some things in life that are more important than bikes.
Good on ya and I hope all of your stories will continue with a "happily ever after". Thank you for sharing :niceone:

One of the best things we did was live in asia for 3 years right after getting married, meant we had to rely on each other so much being in a foreign culture and no family/friends to rely on. I'm sure that's why we are still together and so many of our friends aren't.
She doesn't ride but lets me get away with all sorts of things to do with bikes so I never complain. Did last years 1000 miler two weeks after our 4th was born, pretty good of her to let me dump her at home with the 3 others and brand new baby so I could ride all weekend I thought.
I've just now altered my work hours so I work 4 10 hour days to help out around home more and give her a break from the kids during the week. Means I need to log off soon so I can be up by 5:30am but it's worth it.

LOL have an ex-wife you can have.
So many KB'ers have been married for along time.
Me. Ive been married for 3 weeks, tomorrow.
I met the current puppet on the net. Took her and 2 other prospective ladies to the sevens in Welly, all on the same day, bwahaahahahaha. Told each of them that the other was an old friend. She was easily the best and won me over, or was it the beer....
Anyways. That was 4 yrs ago. Finally bought the bullet and got hitched 3 weeks ago up in New Plymouth. Awesome day, awesome lady.

We first meet in school, then again 6 years later when she moved into a flat I was in. We hooked up and got engaged. 13 years later we got married (13 March this year).
She got me into riding... :)
I highsided on our honeymoon and broke my forearm. :eyepoke:
What a dork.

Sarah and I met while I was working in Saudi Arabia for IBM. She was working as a teacher - Sarah followed me to Gibraltar (sp) and then back to NZ. We've been together for 5 and half years now. Probably time to make an honest woman of her I guess ??!?!!?

you married your first gf?.. amazing - anyone else here who married their first or even second gf?
I met Sarah (Mrs Random) when we were both teenagers. She was my first girlfriend. I did the love-at-first-sight thing and refused to consider any other girl after meeting her, you see.
Been married almost five years now. Two kids (aged 1 and 2). Was all a bit of a gamble (and Jacob, kid #2, was an unexpected event) but it paid off handsomely, and yes, I'm sure that it's entirely possible to marry your first girlfriend and be happy for the rest of your life. *I* certainly have no plans on going downhill from here...

Made a post at a kiwi website for bikers (not this one) that I found in a book I was reading about motorcycling NZ and asked for someone to help answer some questions i had on riding here, etc as I was coming for 4 weeks on me own with my bike to see as much as possible and then heading to OZ for 6 months with my bike.
Of course this was BEFORE I knew how much y'all hated yanks and HD riders.
Anyway, got alot of responses to my post but 1 guy in paticular was really helpful and even mailed & emailed me maps, accomodation suggestions and lists of places to avoid, etc.
When I got to NZ I sent him an email asking if we could meet as I had a thank you gift to give him for all his helpful advise. (Some Triumph books & parts I knew he was having a hard time finding here)
We met, spent the next 3 weeks riding NZ together, and it was amazing. That was in Jan 2000. Decided to postpone the Oz trip and went back home.
In June 2000 he showed up in the states (damn was THAT a surprise when I opened the door and found him there!!) asking me to come back to NZ. Which I did.
In 2001 my Mom was diagnosed as terminal and He came stateside with me so I could be close to Mom. We drove an 18 wheeler across the states for 18 months together for $$ while there and we got married in Vegas Feb 2002. Came back to NZ in 2002 and now live in Hamilton and are more in lust...errrr, love than ever!
With the exception of the constant negative talk of yanks and Harley Riders, I've started to like it here in NZ.
He still hates HD's and I've grown to appreciate fine British bikes, so it works for us and I never have to worry about him taking my HD for a ride and I've learned to wrench on his Triumph so it all works.
Just wish there wasn't so much yankee bashing. I know it's REAL easy, but sometimes it just is a bit much. We're not ALL like so many seem to think.

As a fairly vocal "what the fsck is going on in the merkins' heads" sort, I don't think it generally consists of unfair stereotyping. You'll probably find that many 'Yank bashing' Kiwis are only commenting on their personal experiences with natives of your land of origin.
It only takes one intelligent, likeable American to change the preconceptions of every furriner he or she meets. Go forth and do the good work down under, CY...

Wow what a neat hook up story, had my interest the whole way through.
Re "Yank bashing", I have always thought Kiwis should observe "Yankies" in action to learn a thing or two about professional freindly customer service.
Thats my opinion anyway.

well I don't have a problem with people from any country, I have a huge problem with anyone who is racist, sexist or biggotted, or just plain has a chip on their shoulder. I apologise on behalf of NZer's that have been less than friendly towards you and welcome onboard. There are plenty of folks here from all walks of life.

Oh they will... once you make tiping compulsary. Initailly tipping sounds bad for the customers but in the long run, it works out pretty good. The money flow ends up being the same except for the service which gets boosted to higher levels.
I don't think that is ever going to happen here though...

There are some things I disagree with the American culture and there are some things that I disagree about the American Goverment.
Do I judge all Americans because of that? Nope... There are good folks and there are not so good folks every where and in every country around the world. I have met a lot of Americans and honestly, every single one of them have been super cool so far. A lot of good has come out of America as well as Bad. Sometimes we take the good for granted and spend too much time on just bitching about some crap that goes on.
If I have said something to offend you or your culture, I appologies.
I will still give the Yanks some shit if its regarding GWB. Them folks did ask for it when they voted for em though :blah:
As for HDs? I don't understand the choice but just as long as you are enjoying/loving what you do, who am I to comment on your ride? :niceone:

Yea thats a good point, MR I didn't think about that.
If we werent paying GST on every dam thing in NZ there would be 12.5 % more around for service industry workers pockets. (well most of us would give it except for tight arses I spose)

(thread hijack in progress) GWB was appointed by the Supreme Court. Gore got more votes. You really can't blame the general US voting public for the administration they ended up with.

After getting a bike and talking with friends about bikes, most of them non riders, I hear a bit of HD bashing, or more a limit of there capabilities. The non riders seem to be the more opioninated about disliking HD's, where as the riders are inclined to say that they would prefer xxxx bike over a harley. Likewise I'd prefer a sports style bike to a cruser but if it was a HD vs no bike, I'd be long gone on a long ride on the Harley.
As Orson Wells put it, "Four wheels good, Two wheels better" :not:

methinks most of the anti US sentiment is due to single minded foreign policies, and projection of an air of indifference to the rest of the world. May not be true for all yanks, but about half of the ones I have met so far fit that stereotype in some way. Unfortunately it doesnt bode well for impressions when a single person makes decisions that impact negatively on so many

You said a mouthful there, nothing like "plodding" through to say Springs Junction from Christchurch or similar to appreciate the scenery we have, gives you time to look around instead of doing a warp-factor 3 fang through a twisty bit and being totally focussed on you corner line, potential blind spots/obstacles about 300 yards ahead etc.(of course there's nothing wrong with a good fang now and them either)

My opinions of Americans:
Most Americans who have travelled the world/end up here in NZ for a holiday outside tour busses and luxury cruises, have an incredibly refreshing and highly interesting perspective on both NZ and the rest of the world, including america. Those americans who have not travelled beyond the guided tour/cruise ship style, have little regard for any other culture apart from looking at it from the outside and commenting on it's oddities/quaintness. I think it is to do with the size of the country. Why go overseas when you could spend a lifetime in your own country? In fact, why learn about other cultures at all? There is little incentive....
Not a slight on americans per se, just my attempt to rationalise what I observe.
