View Full Version : How do you choose who to support in MotoGP?

I was just wondering... How everyone choose the person (or team) they support in MotoGP.

Is it because of the brand of bike?

Is it because that particular rider, rides well (in your opinion)?

Is it because of the nationality of the rider?

Or other?

~~

Personally I've never really supported anyone. I started off supporting ANYONE on a Honda Repsol... because when I first started buying bike mags (from like 1998 or close to) the Honda Repsol (Replica) was my dream bike...

Then I choose Rossi... cause he looks like a chipmunk... and he usually wins a lot...

Now I just watch it, with no-one in particular that I support... just my general interest in the sport and the machines...

Im new to riding and thus new to motoGP. Rossi was talked about a lot and I could see he was an awesome rider making a (then) substandard bike do awesome things...I kinda wanted him to win.

Would have been nice to see an italian win something too.

Quite like Melandri, Caparossi, and the other yellow guy too...

I think I may start to support Casey Stoner... for the following reasons...

1. He will be riding with Ducati next season (I believe)
2. I like his surname
3. Its something different than normal
4. He's an Aussie (not that I really care)
5. He's young (lots of time to get better and better)

You mean, "Monkey Boy"(TM)?
We support him, because he is such a great rider, and because he's so funny. He always seems in such a good mood, which I suppose you would if you were a bazillionaire. We also like Melandri and Capirossi, probably because they're great friends of Rossi.
I like Garry McCoy, because he has (or used to) such a cool style: back wheel smoking, front wheel in the air.
Don't like Pedrosa, because he's always so serious.
REALLY don't like Gibbers.
Like Edwards - he's doing a great job, and I was really sorry for him when he should've won but went off the track on the last corner due to Hayden's aggressive riding.
Not too keen on Hayden, as he seems arrogant and is so day-emmed Sutherrrn. You can't trust someone who's probably gonna marry his sister, and who has 7 toes on one foot (according to MotoGP News.) PLus his boots are teh ghey.

You missed out:
6. He has an almost unblemished record for crashing and taking out other riders.

True...

I'm a bit behind on the MotoGP news... I hardly ever get to watch it... only reason I keep slightly updated, is cause Sam buys me Two Wheels Every month... and I read it cover to cover most issues... I prefer Rapid... but if I'm not paying for it... I don't really mind... :)

Noriyuki Haga! Ok, he's no longer in MotoGP, and he was racing WSB when I first took a shine to him. Watched him ride the wheels of his bike, I think it was when he was a wildcard entry at Suzuka and surprised everyone when he got a podium finish. Dont really have anything in common with him (altho he did race an Aprilia at one point), but just liked his style the first time I saw him. Fearless and agressive, with no concern for how long his rear tyre lasted. Not conducive to winning races, but an absolute joy to watch. Mind you, I think it was because he had something to prove that day . . .

Personality, attitude, riding style. Manufacturer doesn't come into it as the bikes are so far removed from what we buy that comparisons are pointless.

My fav's include Schwantz, Rossi, Doohan, Capirossi, Haga, McCoy.

Riders I don't really care for include Sete, Biaggi, Rainey, Hayden, Stoner.

ROSSI!!! ROSSI!!! ROSSI!!! ROSSI!!! ROSSI!!!

Gardner, McCoy, Slighty( C'mon guys mention a kiwi!!)) Croz!(cause he flushed mamola's head down the shitter at puke during marlboro series), Doohan, Regis Laconi, Burt Munro ;) and the little Japs: Hagasan, and Akirasan..!

I DON'T Like: Biaggi, Edwards( He's alright now, but when he used to knock Slight off he was a right tosser!!)

:done:

Thats all i can think of right now..

Usually when I get around to learning their names they're nearly retired... But the 'Tall Texan' was definitely the man! He'd unfold himself off the bike like some sort of oragami preying mantis... ok maybe a little exagerated but time does that to stories...

Now I support the Japs in the 125, 250 and MotoGP... They're nutcases

Firstly you have to ride a Honda. If you decide to change teams and not ride a Honda, you will be forgotten. That is all.

No favourites, support them all for getting that far. They are all heros in my book. But yay for a Honda win anyway.

Simple. TALENT

Rossi has it in bucket loads. You only need to look at his stats. Agostini had it. Doohan had it. Irrespective of whether you like his personality or not, Pedrosa has it (when was the last time a rookie won two races in their first season?).

A very distant second and further is crap like personality, nationality, manufacturer, etc.

Having said all that I do have a natural tendancy to gravitate towards the Italians.

Crashy Stoner? C'mon now, Rossi binned it on purpose because he knew Stoner would get him if he tried to pass.
If you can't bring yourself to support Vale, at least go for Bayliss who showed them all up on his first ride in 2 years.

I started watching the bike racing when Barry Sheene was wearing number 7.

Then I followed Niall McKenzie and Jamie Witham in the British Superbike Champs for a while (Cadbury's Boost Yamaha)

Then I moved to London and my pace of life changed.

Have now returned to bikes this year after 8 years in the desert. I support riders based on a combination of ability and personality - too much of a Juan Kerr and I'll wish them engine trouble.

To tell you the truth, I don't really care about the MotoGP guys, sure they are talented but they're just names on TV to me.

I'd rather watch the progress of people like the pizzaboy, pizzaboy junior, Frosty, Vtec and a few others who I've gotten to know, as to me they are the real racers in the real world.

He rode the castrol RVF750 RC45's in the WSBK about 6-8 years ago, got 2nd in the championships and that.. Frankie Chili was always a good guy too..

Aaron never rode in the premier class though. Simon Crafar did however.

I remember Aaron Slight from ages ago... But those were the days when it was like "oh my god! bikes!" *drool*

I've only recently started keeping up to date on the races...

and won a race... if only they hadn't switch to michelins the year after... he could have been right up there...

I think Crafer had more riding talent than Slight. If he stayed in WSB and the Kawasaki held together many believe he had a good chance for the title.

Slight kept bitchin about the bike.... Koncinski won on it:first:

so tru! rossi is the BEST.no questions. he is my favourite. if he hadnt had all the mechanical faliures this year hayden would just have a no show. everyone saw him in the last five races when his bike as running well. Hayden is a loser and when it happens he blames everything went wrong. If rossi loses he will blame it on him (except for of course when the bike breaks down). Pedrosa is never happy. In the future i am keeping an eye on .... who is currently in 125cc. he won four awards at the ceremony being, rookie of the year, highest number of pole pos, winner of 125cc category and one more but cant remember what it was. But definately has a lot of talent. huge thumbs up to bayliss who came in from superbikes and showed the motoGP boys how its done lol. I like cappirossi and melandri also. Great guys. in summary.... ROSSI is number one and we all know he is the real winner at the end of the day. check out haydens latest post on the website... wootaa loser. i think he thinks he has a chance??

Alvaro Bautista. thats the 125cc guys name. number 19. definately one to keep on eye on. Rossi is doing better then hayden in the testing. he has gained the fastest time and in his interview said that he really likes the feal of this bike. BRING IT ON HAYDEN.

Today's MotoGP.....Vale by a country mile. In the past, Mike The Bike, Ago, Sheene, King Kenny, Croz, Eddie Lawson & Wayne Rainey. And not forgetting my hero of REAL road racing, Joey Dunlop. And of course my mate Frosty. Do not support Hayden, Doohan, Schwantz (and some others that were so boring I forget their names.)

Shinya Nakano and Colin Edwards, may not always be the front runners but 2 of my heros. Lots of skill and they just battle on! Cool personalities
