Bike practice

Hi is there anyone close to me that has a bike I can have a little practice on before I sit my basic handling?I used to have a xr250 but have not ridden myself,for a long time.A mate offered hers at the farm but the brakes are not working:gob: I would be very grateful,I am aiming to get a gn250 before christmas.please pm me.school hours would be good or I can organize a sitter.:sunny:Please PM me Thanks

Have you asked the dealers if they could loan you one as part of a sweetener to entice you to buy from them at a future date???? I'd try that one - helps you out, it could be advertising for them and you build a relationship with a dealership that could be beneficial.

Problem,no learner licence?May have to wait few more weeks and pay cash and bring it home in van and then practice.I was hoping to pay it off in which case I need licence and insurance which brings me back to basic handling.:yes: I dont think any bike shop would be keen on me taking one:gob

Hope you getting it from Henderson bike shop. Old fella who does this on Saturday morning is pretty good. I had never ridden a motorcycle or scooter but got this basic handling thing the first time.

Three years on still learning how to handle my bike.

Problem,no learner licence?

... I missed the licence thing... I did a learn to ride course - bike, helmet and gloves provided - takes a couple hours and then you sit the learner assessment that day after you have just learned the skills.

Then you can go off and sit the theory test once you have your rider skills certificate.

Its worth doing if you want to do it the lawful way. I recommend looking up some local courses. I did mine in Wellington, so I am sure they would have similar learn to ride companies around Auckland.

No practice is required before the basic skills course.... it was a great course and the skills do usually come easy if you can ride a bicycle and have a reasonable sense of balance. You get plenty of practice on the day. I hope this encourages you to have a go.

Yeah, same here..... three years on and still feel like I am learning how to handle my bike (fourth bike tho'... I guess riding more often would help!).

Yep. I paid $80.00 (might have gone up now). He provided 100cc Honda and some advise and 15 mins later a certificate.

My bikes are a little larger than 250 so won't offer you one of mine.
But just a thought, if you are considering a GN, you may care to check out the Yamaha Scorpio at Henderson Motorcycles. Pricing is similar and you get Yamaha reliability.

It looks nicer than the GN too.....my 2c

I got my bhs from John Wright (Look in yellow pages) - all done in a couple of hours - I'd never ridden a bike before at all.
My wife got hers from Riderskills - you can book online for them. http://www.riderskills.co.nz/

In both instances protection and bike were supplied as part of the package.
