Don Brash resigns as Nats leader
23 November 2006

BREAKING NEWS - 1.10am
Don Brash has resigned as National Party leader.

At a press conference held at parliament at 1pm, Dr Brash said ongoing speculation about his leadership was damaging the National Party.

As a result he had decided to resign.

His resignation will take effect following a special caucus meeting on Monday.

Sad when a book causes him to resign but the swindling, cheating, lying snake manwoman stays as head of the country......

Yeah, he's got about as much personaility as a wet dishcloth and I know all politicians will say and do pretty much anything to get in power.

I just find it sad that one of the leaders recognises his inability to lead his party well and does what he feels is best, and yet the other....well, not much to be said about old uncle Helen that hasn't been said already in other threads! LOL

No surprise, it was just a matter of time.

I my own words, Don meant well and National's policies under his leadership would have been good for hard working, honest NZers. Before you comment, you need to read and understand those 3 words.

Over to John...

Byebye Don. Hopefully (although I don't hold out much) a better politician will take his place - unfortunately there are none. We need political parties to make policy and stick by it. The sandpit that passes as a political playground at the moment is pathetic.

Don Brash was turning into a snake, in the style of the US republican party. Better he went. He may have meant well, but politics has a corrupting influence and he had succumbed to it, just like most of the others do.
Is there enough stuff in the book to sink Keys as well?

In a fit of emotional empathy, the leader of the Labour Party, Ms Helen Clark, has announced that she will be joining Dr Brash in stepping down, citing one of her reasons being that she wasn't being appreciated by the public in the manner she had come to expect......

It happens everytime a political party is ousted from power - remember how much we wanted to get rid of Muldoon? And previously all those years of pompous Holyoake,my whole childhood was under the Holyoake rule....and I guess a lot of young people here have only known Helen Clark as Prime Minister, they would almost see it as a dictatorship.

I'm glad that fool Brash is going, but see no hope of the present National Party getting anywhere but by default. We need a revolution.....

Hmmm. Good song my piscine friend:

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right

You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
Ah

ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
all right, all right, all right

It's the single version. Actually there were two versions on the White album weren't there - Revolution (disc 1) and Revolution Number 9 (disc 2).

A damn fine album. My favourite Beatles album, followed by Revolver, Rubber Soul and St Peppers.

I grew up with The Beatles playing a lot in the house. I learned to play guitar to their songs. Thankfully, my lead guitar skills are way better than George Harrison.

Where to start? Not all of this is directly attributable to uncle Helen, but as leader of her party and of the country, she takes the flak for it all.......

- PC gone mad
- Created a cross-section of NZ population who have a benefit mentality due to the fact that they earn a better living off the state....whilst at the same time running the public health system into the ground because their funding is apparently better directed at said benefit bludgers
- Run the standard of the school curriculum down to the point where fuckwits feel like achievers
- Taxed the hell out of middle New Zealand making it easier for those on a benefit or a low income to buy a house than those working their arses off to earn a decent wage, and also making it economically more attractive to leave the country
- Run the defence force down to the point where the Air Force have no fighter planes and the Navy are little more than an offshore patrol (read: coastguard). This despite the fact that we are an island nation (albeit rather isolated and so little threat to anyone) and need a certain level of self-defence ability. Oh, and whilst she's at it she regularly pisses Aussie off, so we cannot necessarily rely on help from their defence forces
- Allowed laws to be passed that legalise stuff that her own party did just so that they could get out of sorting their own mess out
- Is allowing the undermining of the ability of parents to raise upstanding members of society

I'm sure there's more......

OK...now I wait for the volley of abuse in return...! :dodge:

Songs like Revolution and Imagine are a part of who I am,a hippy struggling in the modern world - I just don't know why the hell people can't get along.....

Another song which says a lot about politics - especially the last two lines.
Although probably better known these days as the theme song of CSI Miami

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Where to start? ...

Fair points all. I refrain from berating our Gubmint for them, however, because the alternative is bleaker. Better inefficiency than poverty and misery.

And, quite frankly, we do need a Coastguard, but we don't have the resources to defend this country worth a damn, so why play pretend at it?

I personally have two kids and a stay-at-home wife, and I'm at the magic income point where I get nothing from Working for Families, but don't have a six-figure income with cream on top to make up for it. However, I'm hardly starving; it seems selfish to begrudge the tax I pay.

The education reform cock-ups trouble me, though.

,,We need a revolution.....

You called. Comrade ?
And since everyone seems to be into songs :

The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts blood dyed its every fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high. (chorus)
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Look round, the Frenchman loves its blaze,
The sturdy German chants its praise,
In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung
Chicago swells the surging throng.

It waved above our infant might,
When all ahead seemed dark as night;
It witnessed many a deed and vow,
We must not change its colour now.

It well recalls the triumphs past,
It gives the hope of peace at last;
The banner bright, the symbol plain,
Of human right and human gain.

It suits today the weak and base,
Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place
To cringe before the rich man's frown,
And haul the sacred emblem down.

With heads uncovered swear we all
To bear it onward till we fall;
Come dungeons dark or gallows grim,
This song shall be our parting hymn.

Helens a damned good operator as a politician, and with Cullen as #2 they make a powerful and capable team... as politicians per se.

My complaint is with the extend of social engineering they have put/are putting in place - the depth and direction of social support measures encouraging/enabling people to stay home and have babies/not have a job/be "ill" forever, and discouraging them from seeking employment or a contribution to society.

I don't think Don was ever Helen's match, or Cullen's and I have an idea John Key is not savvy enough either although I haven't really seen him in action except the ocassional head to head on Campbell live and the like... and let's face it... those are somewhat stages events.

It's just easier to denegrate the person than the policies. Sure there are some personal issues about Clark that I do not like. The motorcade is but one example.

I find it interesting that Clark and her Government have been accused of corruption, unethical behavour etc. by National and their suppoerters. National themselves have consistantly alluded to this in the House. Brash and his supporters have accused Clarke and her Government of acting in and even supporting the use of 'stolen emails.' It now transpires that these emails were leaked by party officials as a response to their own partys unethical behavour and Brashes inability to demostrate honesty, integrity and honour, the very thing that Nat supporters rail against Labour and Clark in particular.

Clark on the world stage always puts me in mind of a cleaning lady who walked through the wrong door by mistake..."Oooh, there's all these cameras, and I was looking for the mop bucket!"

Ferchissakes, you're the leader of a country, can't you at least get a decent suit and haircut?

Dr. Davis (Mr Helen Clark...) was jogging near his home in Auckland. Every day, he'd jog past a hooker standing on the same street corner. He learned to brace himself as he approached her for what was almost certain to follow. "Two hundred and fifty dollars!" she'd shout from the curb. "No! Five dollars!" He would fire back, just to shut her up. This ritual between him and the hooker became a daily occurrence. He'd run by and she'd yell, "Two hundred and Fifty dollars!" He'd yell back, "Five dollars!" One day, Helen decided that she wanted to accompany her 'husband' on his jog. As the jogging couple neared the working woman's street corner, Dr. Davis realised she'd bark her $250 offer and Helen would wonder what he'd really been doing on all his past outings. He figured he'd better have a darn good explanation for the 'Boss'. As they jogged into the turn that would take them past the corner, he became even more apprehensive than usual. Sure enough, there was the hooker. He tried to avoid the prostitute's eyes as she watched the pair jog past. Then, from her corner, the hooker yelled, "See what you get for five bucks, you tight bastard?!"

It means that; if you've got a problem with her politics, fair enough! But way too many of the contributers to this forum do nothing more than endlessly bitch about how ugly they think she is!

How fuckin' childish is that?

Too fucking right. Says more about the people posting than it does about Helen Clarke, and none of it plesant, either.

You been sniffing two stroke chainsaw petrol again? Well perhaps you're honest, but I don't think you're hard working. If you were, you certainly wouldn't be a Labour supporter.

Are all tree huggers so narrow minded?

Tell ya what, if you dont think Im hard working, come work with me Finn, follow me for a day and keep up without getting killed, injured or refusing to follow or just burnt out, and I will clean your bike with my toothbrush. I will give you all the gear you need, and will do the best to insure your safety, but if you get hurt, for once in your life, dont blame anyone else and dont whine.

Narrow minded is the person who things that the whole world is about money. Who thinks that you only really love your kid if you send them to a private school. Or how about basing your education and working life on the fact you saw a porsche when you were younger and thought having one would be everything?

Lets us all know when youve made enough money to be happy with NZ finn, as its tough to see that this nation can be so cruel to the greedy.

I was taught to use my mind to put a roof over my head. You on the other hand, are a typical Kiwi. You knock anybody that has made anything of their lives just because you haven't, couldn't and can't.

Go sell failure somewhere else and keep voting left. You'll need it one day when your woodchucking days are over.

No, drug dealers are clever - they avoid tax. Timber is a tree groomer and loves working half his week for Helen Clark just so he can sleep at night, knowing that all the fat poor people with playstations have enough money to gamble... thanks to him.

He should be knighted.

You make this assumption that you know me, but you really have no clue.
I was taught to use my mind to put a roof over as well, (most people were) I just happen to work hard physically as well.
Ive made choices, as you have. For now I can do good things and work hard with my mind and body and I do something worthwhile which makes alot of people happy. I help a few companies in both islands (not at all tree related) with HR, marketing and strategic management. So dont worry yourself that Im going to be a burdon to your highly overtaxed income.

Money is easy, its life and happiness thats hard. And if you think money is making something of your life, your even sadder than you sound. Theres more to life than to be remembered as the whining rich guy with the pretty toys.

That offer stands anytime if you grow a pair. Its easy to work hard when you risk only things you dont really need.
