I never met them but had some interaction with them on SB...
Have fun guys, wherever you may be... RIP? I'm sure they are more likely tearing up the skyways and doing burnouts and wheelies on Big G's mansions driveway...
And to all the friends and rellies, I'm sure they'll be looking down and smiling on all of you...

Bruce / Daryl, was a day I will never forget and often think about, you might be gone but know that your memories definitely live on through those whose who knew you and all the good times we had being around you, Bruce if you were still here I may of even let you ride the Aprilia! Nah maybe not!

Remember the first report of "Biker down " on KB Coro ride. Detested those threads ever since, ended up visiting Finn than day dropping off "stolen" avocadoes. (His luverly lady liked them) He checked KB and thread was closed. One of those moments in life, you remember forever, sort of like "Where were you when Lady Dianna died" type occassions. Went to the unveiling feeling empty all day. Probably my saddest time on KB. This reminder makes me feel really sad for those that were on the ride.
Remember it well my friend.
The first time I met Bruce was on a coro ride at Kopu. He turned up with slicks, no indicators but he did have a number plate... in the rear storage compartment.
I introduced myself as another KB member and said I was really disappointed that he turned up on a KB ride with a bike that was clearly not road legal and proceeded to call the cops from my mobile. I said "Let's see how good a rider you really are. I think I had him until I told him who I really was.

Yes two years already, wasnt really going to post on this as its something I had been trying to move on from, at least as much as possible.
Its a very sad thing and a very wasteful event isnt it, I cannot imagine ever again being involved in an event where I would be watching two of my dear friends dead and dying next to each other, its something which does not leave you ever and it is something which affects you very deeply.
I have some strong views on Bikers and roads these days Im not wanting to let them out on here at the mo, but all I will say is I hope you guys are at peace and if I ever see you up there the first thing im going to do is knock ya fucking heads off for what you have done to us and you families for fucking around on the road, that said I miss you guys terribly

Mmmmm, I detect more meaning to what you have said Quasi...... I have only just tonight been able to review all the wonderful things that have been said by so many of you. And yep, the years are ticking by very fast. But I do know that Daryl is there riding with us all......I still feel his hand on the throttle at times, and the smell of his aftershave in my helmet..... :-)

Dale, I still think about them and feel their presence every now and then. Was watching the Stuntskills/Dragwars DVD the other day with my 13 month old son (how time flies) and he loved it. There's footage of Bruce and Daryl doing stoppies on there and my lad was grinning and clapping at them. Made me wish I had the time and energy to organise another one - bet you the boys would make their presence felt there!!!

Hey Dale and Sue.... its funny i've been thinking about them more lately too.... with my accident i thought lots about them when i was in hospital and bed rest after that.... i've been too chicken to watch my chicks dig scars II dvd.... maybe its time to make a scared sheep squadron reunited DVD for them?

Bit of de ja vu seeing this thread as I have just got back from Garry Albrett's funeral. During the trip I had time to reflect on several peeps who are no longer with us, particulary Sam, Bruce and Darryl.

Time moves on but it dont heal really, I still wake up at night with the expectation that Daryl (in particular) is there, freaky as fuck really, I dont know what thats all about at all.............. anyrate I cant see that event reducing in its impact on me for some time if ever.
Anyway on a brighter note here is the plonker racing at Pukekohe enjoy !!!
Edit, sorry about the kids scene, but look out at 3.30 Daryl has a big slide almost bins it !

On the subject of videos, while cleaning up the other day I found some old DVD's with some onboard footage of LooseBruce putting down some respectable laptimes on his old TL during a trip we did to Taupo(old) and Manfeild back in '04.
Instead of going to waste I thought it would be nice to upload to Youtube where it can be immortalized (theres no faces or nothing - just pure onboard). I don't want to offend anyone so am really seeking permission. Does anyone know who I should ask ?

Is that from the time we did Fredie Merkel training Day? If so, thoes footage are in circulation in DVD format to some people from the Matthie Family so I think the more people that see it, the better. Upload em I say!
Being the show off that he was, I think it would be a crime not to let the world see it. :)

Hi everyone from here over the Tassie. Thankyou for remembering the boys today. Their presence is now not physical but spiritual, and I am sure there are times when you feel it. I lit their memorial day candles yesterday, and buggar me if I couldn't blow Daryls candle out when it was time to go on my annual memorial thrill seeking adventure. Guess he wanted more hugs from mum! Not a day goes by when I don't think of Daryl and also the wonderful support and friendship you have shown to myself and each other. My adventure this year was to climb the Story Bridge in Brisbane - a bit tamer than previous exploits, but it got me closer to heaven (which is where I am sure they are - hopefully - the only devils to be there). I will go riding with Daz this weekend. Happy memories, and safe riding to you all, Love, Dale

If there was one but of advice I gave Daryl it was to do what captured your interest, don't not do it because others said it could be 'dangerous. Breathing is dangerous! And so he got out there and had fun, met a lot of really neat people, and touched a lot of hearts. And as a result of that he is no longer with us, and neither is Bruce. However, lets not forget that they loved their bikes, their mates, and the challenges. I say, lets remember them for the contribution they made to our own lives, and lets not ever forget them. RIP boys, you rode the road to heaven xxxx

well boys... 5 years today.....
shit... 5yrs, seems like yesterday dosnt it?
Then again I have riden to several other KBer's funerals since, Ya know I still think we need a corner of KB for our riders last threads and profiles, place we can go to re read and remember, cos over the years there sure has been a few KBer's ride through the purley gates and not one of them should be forgoten.
If there was one but of advice I gave Daryl it was to do what captured your interest, don't not do it because others said it could be 'dangerous. Breathing is dangerous! True... however there is a limit and we must remind ourselves not to cross it, as above there are to many unnessary deaths, sure everyones situation in life is different but once ya gone ya gone, last week was a sad reminder for me as 200 bikes escorted a rider on his last ride, there he left 3 children youngest being 2 same age as mine. Breathing might well be dangerous but so is riding, resepct to all.

Go play in your sandpit. She's sponsored by Experience Motorcycles, a Shorai dealer, and I simply asked if Daniel was supplying a Shorai battery for her. Has big advantanges in size, weight and power on a race bike.

Fair comment, I was only responding to Nicksta's post re: going racing in his memory and noting that Experience Motorcycles was a sponsor. If she had not had a Shorai dealer sponsoring her I would not have mentioned it at all. Daniel and I get on well and he does a lot behind the scenes to support the racing scene not only in NZ. We have talked about Nicky in this past.

Not sure if many of the old crew of KB are still around on the site. Hard to believe it's coming up to 10 years that this accident happened, where we lost Darryl and Bruce (DSS3 & LOOSEBRUCE). Those on that ride will no doubt like me remember it clearly. For the new guys that won't have been lucky enough to have met these two they were icons of the site at the time, both arguably very good riders who raced together on the track and helped a lot of the guys on KB where they could, and had a lot of friends and respect through there combined passion for the sport, but paid the ultimate price for a mistake that day and showed they weren't invincible.
On the 2nd Of Dec planning to get over to the Coromandel to pay my respects to these two fallen riders who were my good friends, Bruce if you can see my new bike from above on Friday know that there is no way still I would let you ride it :bleh: . I only rode with, and met these guys once or twice before my son was born...I've been rather pre occupied this past decade... and have avoided group riding.Took my son around the 'loop the other day, his first big ride...and we talked about these riders, over lunch at the Coroglen, how they rode and lived...and died.
This tribute is valuable to all who met them and rememberance for their loved ones essential.

Hello there, yes, Friday will be a very special day to remember two riders. Daryl was going for, in his words, "one last ride before I focus on rowing mum. I don't need to loose time off work with injuries". Little did we know that one last ride was exactly correct. To say I miss my only child is an understatement at best, the void is immense and not pleasant. I am looking forward to meeting all the riding friends on Friday to let our balloons aloft. See you there....and thanks to everyone for the continued remembrance. Love you all for the memories

Did we all grow up or is it just not spending so much time on KB any more? I'd like to think that time changed my riding for the better, but maybe growing up and seeing my children on motorcycles did more than attending funerals.
I still think about UncleB, Bruce and Daryl from time to time and wonder what might have been, especially this time of year, when my Facebook feed crops up with pics. :(

Fourteen years on and thoughts turned to Darryl and the 2 Bruces, for no particular reason.......ones that leave a smile...
Some events just stay with you.....
Gone, but not forgotten, boys.

A terrible weekend indeed, remember it like it was yesterday.
