Now my partner - as thoughtful as she is brought home Torque last nite to watch - now what an absolute piece of shit that movie is.
Fuck - it would be entertaining if only 10% of the stunts in the movie were actually true.
Ramming one anothers bikes at 100mph - come on......the chick fight scene on the bike with the dueling wheeling bikes - fuck off.
As for doing a burnout on a turbine powered Y2K bike - what the fuck was the director thinking - does he not realise that that is not possible?
Don't get me started on the train scene, or the wicked multi-purpose self adjusting tyre and suspension kits these bikes had to cater for both dirt and road.
Also - why did the twins sound like multis - what the fuck was that about?
Ironically it actually made Ben Afflecks performance in Paycheck (which we watched after) seem worthy of the Best Actor Oscar - which is scary in itself.
I was concerned that watching the movie would make me want to go out and buy a bike - but i needn't have worried.

the wheel stand between the cars & the fight in the first scene were good but it sadly fizzled out after that. Glad I didn't see it on the BIG screen. :sneaky2:

I haven't seen the movie but I would guess that due to the success of MI2 in suspending our disbelief in the ability of tyres and suspension to "transform" they thought they could get away with even more.
What do you expect - after all they are catering to the generation who loved Optimus Prime and all his mates...
Anyway, its just an action movie - did you really expect reality?
Aye, I thought all the stunts were real. Now you have wrecked it for me .

Wkid you must be getting old and have lost your enthusiasm for fiction.
No one ever said the movie was the third edition of On Any Sunday.
We all laughed about this movie when it came out and somewhere there was a long thread on that.

Yes you can. Y2K uses a two speed transmission driving the rear wheel using a chain.
It's not "jet propelled" as most people believe.

Funny. I rented Torque last night too. Also rented Perfect Stranger (not too bad, not too bad at all...), which we watched last night. Couldn't be bothered watching Torque afterwards.
Watched half of it this morning over breakfast. What a silly movie.

Well I did kinda expect at least the smallest portion of the bikes scenes to be based on fact

Well it has made Martin Henderson want to get into riding motorcycles
for real....Thats what I read somewhere <_< (TV guide? WW? gossip gossip)
But his mum, (used to work in Orewa-so horses mouth etc) said he told
her he isn't interested in getting back into M/Bikes....wonder what the truth is...and what he will do in due time.....
I was disappointed in the movie (saw it on the big screen) it got more and
more ridiculous as the movie rolled on

I enjoyed that movie. It was a hilarious comedy topped off with the fact that it was free when we watched it (KB Torque ride out).

If you want to see some 'realistic' riding scene watch the opening scenes of SM2....trying to go 42 blocks in 7 minutes delivering pizzas on a moped....and fixing his moped in his 1 room flat by the window was a laugh too.

That has to be my number one hate of holywood. Harleys that sound like 2 strokes, ducatis that sound like multis, its just not right.

Torque...
I couldn't even laugh at how bad it was. I kept wanting to see Martin Hendersons character with bloody stumps instead of hands each time he jumped up after binning it. The special effects were a waste of time. The acting/storyline/dialogue not even worth mentioning.
Totally put off "biker" films by that experience. I decided however to give the genre another chance and watched Biker Boyz a few nights back.
And what'd'ya'know, it was a damn good film. More reliant on actual good riding rather than shocking special effects. Had an actual story line, character development, reasonable dialogue. All round a good film, not fantastic, but a vast improvement over Torque.
Another film I saw recently, although it wasn't about bikes, had a reasonably cool bike scene towards the end. Forgotten the name of the film already, but the scene had some hitmen pull up riding pillion on sports bikes and as one got close to the target the rider pulled a stoppie and the hitman fired at the target over his head. Very cool.

This talk of bike movies has reminded me of one of the best movies to come out of Australia - "Stone". Lots of good riding, mostly on Z1s, and all the noises matched - yay.
Talk about showing your age!

I couldn't resist and got Torque out last night on DVD.
A lot of nice bikes...but yes , most of the stunts were absolute bullshit. It amazed me how the sports bikes suddenly converted to trail/paris dakar style with sports fairings for all the off road stuff. An Aprillia sure looks funny with elongated forks and ride height.
One of the Reapers managed to get his bike back from the rear of the truck as well, after 'Shane' had taken off with it. Bit of a glitch there Mr Director.
I had to laugh though at the term used for bikes by someone in the movie - "crotch rocket"....excellent.
Personally, I thought it was worth watching and not really any more cheesy than Biker Boyz.

Incedently, Martin Hendersons "off road" Aprillia from the movie was for sale on E-bay a few months back.
It was actually a KTM Duke with RSV fairings and shit on it. Looked quite a laugh. Bit of pipe hanging off the side, going nowhere to look like an Aprillia exhaust.

Yes! I did a triple take and stared real hard at the screen when that scene started... I couldn't believe they'd just swap bikes out and pretend the viewers wouldn't notice that they were watching what looked like Transalps with Aprilia and Triumph decals, which magically turned back into RSVRs and Daytonas when they hit tarmac again. No wonder they did that whole part in long-shot. That's even worse than the magic shapeshifting tyres in MI2.

And that was a title used in the 70s by US bike mags when the big Jap fours started to dominate the bike scene. (Kwaka 750 triple 2-stroke was actually the first I heard the term applied to). :shit:
