Yeah Kick and I are not sure if we are going up for this one as of yet.

We are gong up for Wanganui Christmas weekend and then there is another meeting a week or two after Nelson, so it all becomes quite tight... will see how it goes.

Would be good to go, I have not been to Nelson yet, so would love to see that part of the country...

I'm keen to find out who organises the Port Nelson races as I was planning on going again this year as a spectator, but figured I may as well offer to help out in some way, eg. marshalling, etc

Anyone here have a contact phone number or email to pass on. Thanks.

Well... that was a fucked up day

1st into the pits I think we were, set up camp and waited for the rest to arive, KB camp soon grew with the arivel of the foreners, Frosty, Nicko, Sparky... and the usuals.

Riders briefing was an hour late so I was thinking this aint a good start, some north Is tard rider was loosing his rag after being told that tards wont be in F3 and BEARs... even tho per round they will get TWO races... out came his paper work shouting says' here I can race in these classes' If I was the organiser I would have grabed the paper and a pen and crossed it out and said 'now it dosnt'... fuk man respect the organisers decision, then the comments strted being hiffed his way 'cut there power off for a day and they bitch for a week'

Well thats about as far as brefing went... nothing mentioned about entry and exiting of track or any safty concerns, not a good breifing in my eyes.

Pratice , finely got under way and I went out on the Kat, with the reminder of how much harder a road race is.
F4 (buckets) pratice was straight after and mixed in with the classics... once again a reminder of the pot holes, man holes oil and lack off run off came back to me.

Race 1 And the time is now one oclock... due to tard riders arseing off F1 bike loosing his oil filler cap (twit for not tying it in and a bigger twit of a scrutenear for not picking up on it) and shocking organisation.
Post classics cant remember much but was running about 1/2 field and really noticing the bumps and weight of a 1/4 ton bike.

F4 The MB uses a home built frame and is very light the front end was pogoing and sliding every were so I hanged in there and think I came at the back of the front group.
I heard after that they closed the gate on Rashika, then opened it she shot out of the entry rd and was nearly cleaned up by the pase car doing over a ton down the straight... fucking stupid shit.

Race 2 Fuck knows what was going on but on the grid was classics, post classics and F4... WTF??? I was on the ront line trying to get back to let classics in but they wouldnt come forward so the flag was droped and I shot out into 2nd place... wasnt to the last lap when DC flew past so I was thinking I was hauling decent arse... but no it apaires when the flag was droped the grid up person jumped out in front of row 2 and was nearly ran over and a big pile up caused... once again WTF???
Second flag drop and the rest of a fucked up feild took off.

Well that was the day... one F4 race one pre 82 race and one very fucked up race... this just left the 'king of the port' race to be sorted with the top 5 riders of each clas racing.

Last race KOP ... well fuck me as the post classic class wasent that big I did finish in the top 5 so I should have cualified... but no my name wasent called out... yet a rider that was one of the last to finish... he was called up... fuck me what a ballsed up day.

Well good day by all, all the same and next year I think it should be called “THE MOTARD STREET RACE” after all their bitching they had up to 6 races compaiered to our 1-2.

Great catching up and riding with all KBers and sorry to those KBers that were there to watch as I may have seemed a bit rude and snobed some of yas but once Im in the race zone I kinda dont take a lot of the rest in.

See ya sll next year aye?

Geeze! If it was that bad, I'm glad I didn't go!

Not sure if road racing is going in the right direction at the moment. Whats the point in paying a fortune to race at the top level and only compete in 1 class when Motards can compete in several while spending far less money? Why race an RS125 when you have to race with F3 bikes and now Motards, both of which get in the way on the corners and stuff your laps up? Why pay to go and spectate when heaps of classes seem to have the same bikes in them?

Just a thought.... I looked at buying a Motard, cause at the moment they are getting far better value for money than any of the other classes. Maybe thats not such a good thing?

Rashika
3rd January 2007, 15:22
ah well, got my first street race overwith...and I came away with very mixed feelings.

Firstly I have to say that I really enjoyed the actual racing on the street.
I was pretty nervous about it after having heard all the horror stories about street racing but when i was out there both bikes felt great. Stuck to the road really well, and even the bumps weren't any major issues, i even road over a few on purpose to see what effect it would have, but both Elsie and the bucket were fine. Guess there is one advantage to having the same type of frame on each bike.
It was pretty cool to occasionally look around and see people watching you...very novel having them clap as well :Punk:

I have to say ta VERY much to Thunder for making it a great competition in the first pre 82 and bucket/f4 race... I really enjoyed having someone to chase, especially as i always seem to start off the back due to some reason or another.

And also ta to Frosty and Nicko for their inspiration, great to play at bitbitch briefly till the other one turned up...eventually
Nice to see you again too Sparky Bills! Glad to see that ya managed to keep it upright this time ;)

And yet more ta's to SuziQ and my pops for taking lots of piccies, which hopefully soon (when i can get away from work and SuziQ meanders her way back from nelson) we will get to see some more piccies.

So anyway the races...

Practice pre82/post classic:
went out for practice... lined up on the grid...hmm novel i thought, usually its just go out and blat around a couple of times, dont usually have a flag drop but oh well...go with the flow. So got a roaring start...ummm errr no. I have REALLY got to work on those starts!!! mutter mutter
So managed to catch up with Thunder and just pip him at the post... was thinking Cool this is gonna be fun. The nerves had gone and i was feeling great!
so it was...

practice for buckets/F4:
get back to see Dangerous trying to start bucket and it not working....fuck...
no electrics. It seems that the bucket altho when started earlier was fine, she had decided that all the rain in Nelson was just NOT on and it was time to toss her toys outa the cot! So i sat while all the rest went out for a play. Luckily we have some very helpful groupies and they set to to figure out the problem. And when Stanko got back and had finished a wee tantrum at his onboard camera going boohoo as well  , he came over to help sort it out too. After pulling out all the electrics, it turned out to be water in the kill switch, so easy fix...cut the wires & rewire.
Even after spending more than an hour fixing the bucket we still had about 1/2 wait till our first race, being the last 2 races in each round.

Race one: pre 82/Post classic
yippee, got out on the track, warmup one lap, then back to the start for a REAL flagdrop this time round, but the usual crap start, so at the back again. Altho there were only about 10 or so of us in total, so managed basically a repeat of the practice, only got past Thunder a little earlier this time so spent the rest of the race trying to avoid him passing me again and watching out for the big boys to lap me...which they managed but ONLY on the final lap ;)

Race one (and ferking only!!) Buckets /F4:
raced to get on the bucket only have issues getting my gloves connected to the tether switch, mere seconds later i was heading out and they had closed the rope. They proceeded to open it for me and wave me through right in front of the pace car... sheesh....just as well i stuck to the left.
Decided not to bother going round again as they would have to wait ages for me so just went to the start line and waited, no warmup lap, no practice on a bike we had modified rather a lot and I had not yet riden... but surprisingly after the hear miss from the pace car i was actuall cool , calm and collected.

This race start was similar to pre82... checked to see what gear i was in, usually start in 2nd cos first has nothing at all, noticed it said 3rd so whipped it down, but somehow it went back up, so damn near stalled it. damn it, i usually have a good start on the bucket...never mind...head off and chase down a couple of bikes before sttling in to chase Thunder (again! ;) )
But this time the bucket doesn't quite have the oomph of Elsie and I cant quite get past him on his std FXR...bugger...so thats one each now.

An hour or so later we have the 2nd round:

Race 2 Post classic
well that was a bit of a balls up to say the least. All the post classics are sitting on the dummy grid waiting, then a couple of buckets turn up and we get waved out.... Huh?? I'm thinking, dont say they have combined the classes???? So anyway manage a warmup lap this time and get back to the start, and as damhgerous said it was a complete cockup, left in 2 waves i think, about 15 secs after the first batch. Got so befuddled by the start with this bloke running in front of us with the flag, that ballsed up the start (AGAIN!) so tottled off after the other classic and most of the pre82 bikes, to catch up with the buckets and slowly get past most of them...Stanko.. thunder on his Pre82, then even (bugger me days!) Diesel Pig....woooooohoooo...now i know how it feels to be in the front with the fast buckets, tho i had to do it on my 250 ;)
tried to catch James but too much of a head start and couldn't do it...
But all in all i was chuffed with the last race, had fun passing a few people...even if they were on buckets and pre 82...

and that was it....

Complaints: (unfortunately a LOT)

Not one but 2 marshalls letting me out in front of the pace car. (I was gonna check...habit... but I decided to trust them)

Pace car: okay so it is a race (and it did sound good going past), but not a race for you...ok? Shooting past the start/finish at a zillion miles an hour was prob not required when you had a 1/2 a lap headstart on the bikes, 'cept perhaps F1.

Running postclassics and buckets straight afterwards, about half of the post classic riders were in buckets so very quick change... not impossible but not easy either with gloves having to be swapped around to fitted tether switches, etc. They said they would makes sure there was time between the races...yeah right. Guess it didn't matter cos we only had one race like that, they didn't run anymore hence...

Biggest complaint:
What was the thinking???? of combining all the last 3 classes into 1 race, not only are the bikes quite vastly different in speeds, but half of the riders were in both classes.

So in the end I got 2 races on pre82 and 1 on buckets, pretty damn slack given i had 2 bikes and probably should have had closer to 3 races on each.

Really pissed off that after combining our classes they proceeded to have ANOTHER round for all the other classes EXCEPT the class that had already missed out. So all told they got 3 races each class, except the super-retards who got 5 races each. HEY did we NOT pay the same money to come and race?? In fact considering a lot of us travelled from chch and further we should have had the support of at least the same number of races as the other classes.

So altho I was and still am peeved about, i still enjoyed what little racing i got... would I do it again YUP, but only if they sort their shit out.

Letter of complaint will be going on behalf of all the riders who missed out, effectively all the classic, post classic and bucket racers

actually the motards DIDN'T get to race in the F classes, the race guys said that MNZ has said no more to them competing in those classes. Only in Supermotard races, hence the reason they had 2 races per round and could go in both if they wanted. Quite frankly I think that sucks... we have to have 2 bikes to go in more classes and we didn't even get even close to the number of races they got with one bike and supposedly only had one class.
So bugger em, they should have the same restrictions we have.

Keep the Monster, much better cos you can do Bears and F3 and noone will have an issues with you doing both

best thing mnz has done in a long time turfing the motards out of the formula classes, different kind of riding
a mate of mine racing a motard at the port was all for it, as he used vto race a 125 at ruapuna, one day came screaming around the hairpin, to find some dude on a motard with his foot out and ran over his leg!!!!

That in fact nation wide there well be no retards in F3 and BEARs F3 ???

Personally I think it was a good idea as far as MNZ F1 F2 & F3 goes. Not so sure about the BEARS though- you sure they're banned there too?

I wonder if the ruling will stay in place though, there are an awful lot of guys riding Motards and they're not going to be happy about it. If they get to do Motards and BEARS they are getting two classes out of one bike, which is more than pretty much EVERYONE else gets.... except those cunning enough to buy a European manufactured air cooled carburretted 2 valve twin:innocent: If only I could have found a pre 82...

Due to the Pre'82 CB being dead and Kickaha must has passed on the dreaded Carntbefarkitist I entered the FXR in F3 and buckets, thinking the fast F3 guys need a challenge of having a mobile speed hump.

Got up early and pulled the curtains, it hadn't long stopped raining I thought that would be the end of Dangerous seeing that he dosent seem to be able to race in the same 24hrs that rain has fallen. I headed off to the track with a good positive attitude and looking foward to the day.

After setting up and bludging another breakfast (cooked.....bakon, eggs etc) off big bro the day took its first set back we were called up for (what we thought) was riders breifing only to be told there were issues in setting up the track, funny that being its the same as last year, headed back to pits to finish my coffee and they immediatly called us up for the riders brief. FARK sort it out! After getting going late and problems with practice (already covered) We were called up for F3 practice. Due to F3 being reduced from 32 down to 11 due to the 'tards being tipped out a few more buckets took my lead and joined me, cool someone to race with. The old FXR felt good pushing 85% and getting a feel for the new bike on a track I rode last year with shit results. The FXR felt as expected well planted on the bumpy surface. I thought Dangerous was having issues in the corners being he wasn't as aggresive as usual. Back to the pits for a yack and Dangerous said his front end was shuddering accross the track (thats one fast two stroke not to worry about)

Bucket practice, found that some of the Nelson Bucketeers have found some good pace since last seen.....shit! I managed to push a bit harder an the old girl felt good, lets get the racing underway.

F3 race one: What felt like hours and was, we were called up for our first race. I gridded up at the back of the field with about three other buckets took the first race fairly easy gaining confidence in myself and the limitations of the bike and found we were shitloads faster than the slower of the F3 bikes only to loose all gained down the main straight. And only got lapped by two bikes!

Buckets Race one: In true bucket fashon the warm up lap was a race in its self to get good grid positions. I muffed the start big time which is usually one of my strong points and found myself about 8th into the first corner. I put my head down and peg back 3 spots to finish 5th and the first 4 stroke home behind 4 hot twosmokers, not bad but what if....."farken start".

F3 race two: Went along very much like race one but ran wide in turn three through the oil dropped by a F1 bike in practice and had a moment which resulted in a mild tank slapper and butt pucker (new skiddies please).

Bucket....errr.... pre '82 post classic....errr.....classic race two: Due to time running out the organisers in their wisdom put all three classes out togeather the grid was a total stuff up there were bikes everywhere I was on the second row behind the classics with another bucket and Pre '82's. They let the front row go and 1/2 of our row went as well.....oh fark someone is going to get nailed from behind, they gave the classics to the first corner and let the rest of my row go. I was second to turn one behind Big bro on the KZ750 not knowing what was going on behind me. The other bucket on the same row as me went passed down the main straight along with a couple of pre '82 post classic bikes. At the end of the main straight I looked back and the entire length of the main straight, was empty.....WTF. I spent the rest of the race in my own wee world wondering how the fark are they going to lap score this? is it our last race?" When am I going to get monstered by 1/4 ton pre '82 pigs. finished second bucket home (not anything to get excited about). the pits was full of farked off riders a few went off to find out WTF is going on. I come to the conclusion that that was the day for me and started to pack up.

If I hadn't cross entered the bucket in F3 I would have been gutted at the lack of racing and poor organisation. I managed to get 6 rides in total (including practices), but I am keen on putting my name to the letter that will probally be written and look foward to its reply before I go back next year.

Cheers Brent

[QUOTE]I have to say ta VERY much to Thunder for making it a great competition in the first pre 82 and bucket/f4 race... I really enjoyed having someone to chase, especially as i always seem to start off the back due to some reason or another.
Thanks Rashika, I really enjoyed the racing I did on the day. It was great to have someone to try & keep in front of and chase. This was the second time out on the X7 so I have started to feel more confident on it. It dosent quite handle the same as the Tuono, feels like a pogo stick bouncing around. The power of the X7 wasnt too bad for the street circuit & my lack of ability. The FXR is still running well.

Also thanks to Dangerous for helping with the teather switches on the 2 bikes.

I also enjoyed the battle I had with Stanko in the Classic, Post Classic & Bucket Race, just managed to pip him on the line, using the xtra power the X7 has over the FXR.

I agree with the comments above about the lack of races for pre 82 & buckets etc, and I would like to put my name down on a letter of complaint.

Also I was back marker that was called up for the King of the Port last race, what a balls up!!!!. As I had finished dead last in the first post classic I thought it wasnt a good idea to get mixed up with professional racers so I didnt race. I went and told the organisers this and they just said that they were unsure of what bikes were what, in differant classes etc. Strange?

All in all wasnt a bad day , Enjoyed the racing I had. Thanks to MYGSXF for the BBQ on New Years eve , it was a good night.

So when did MNZ decide this about the Motards? 1st round of the Nationals this weekend isnt it? And now they've been banned? You'd be pretty dirty if you'd spent $15K-$20K+ on one and planning on doing the Battle of the Streets and the Nationals wouldnt ya? I see Sparky Bills rode two classes on the one bike, good on him, so why can't a Motard cross enter. The organisers have to decide when they take entries, what rules are going to apply. If they let the guys enter and then tell them at riders breifing they they arent racing in certain classes, thats pretty poor. Make it clear when the riders post their entry forms, and put them in for a maximum of two classes. You can't really blame them for being pissed off, can ya? Chook chasers have been in F3 for bloody years, and have always been a great bike for the street races. In fact when the first race was held at Port Nelson, alot of effort went in to get the local MXers in to support the event. It wouldnt have happened without their participation!

MNZ didn't decide anything as with any meeting this is at the organisers discretion and it was only one rider packing a wank about it

How many motards will you see doing the nationals? sweet fuck all because they dont have a class and if there bike is eligble they can enter F3 where on the longtracks they'll get dicked

so why can't a Motard cross enter.

They can they are just restricting how many classes they can enter in and fucking good job to

Chook chasers have been in F3 for bloody years

yeah they have, but motards haven't, back in the olden days when you were racing how many ran different rims and tyres and backed them in with there legs out? fuck all I'd say

true, fully rank only letting people know at the riders briefing

and a lot of those local motocrossers were a menace a few years back, while it was handled very badly the principal of keeping motards out of the formula classes is sound, as was the three meeting rule for street races a few years back
i remember the days when, while their support may have been needed, those motocrossers with little or no road racing experrience where a danger to all

Riggghhhtt, the real problem is the bikes that F3 caters for, havent grown with the times. The most modern bike the SV650 is still really a budget commuter bike in most parts of the world.

To get the very first Port Nelson Street race off the ground it was essential that we got the MXers on to the track. The committee needed the local club (Motorcycling Nelson) backing to get a permit, and also had to have the approval of the local steward etc. It was only the approach of "lets see how good you boys are on tarmac" that got any interest. This took a fair bit of lobbying and promoting to convince the club that it could work. The Nelson club was pro dirt and werent really interested in it happening at all. It was only being able to some of the top local MX guys interested that got the Nelson club interested enough to be prepared to back it. Think we gave them there own class to start with as they were a little err "loose" to start with!

Now thats an excellent point. So I guess the question would then be, do you cater for the guys who have shelled out for the new Motards or for the SV650 crowd or the old 400s crowd. Big can of worms there

My only complaint about motards at nelson was the idiot that still had his side stand on--and had the fucking thing hanging on thre ground --now that was an accident waiting to happen
