Yay my first post. Sad subject though. Had my Hyosung GT250 for a couple of weeks now. And what did I do? Did a U-turn without shoulder checking :dodge: and a car bloody hit me. Hardly any damage to the bike. Snapped brake lever and cracked front guard (anyone have an idea on price to get the guard replaced?) and a sprained foot. Dent to her car though but it won't be much to get fixed. Moral of the story - don't rely on the mirrors. I feel so stupid but lesson learnt

Sorry to hear about your run-in with a large metal object  Glad to hear you are okay and you know what you did wrong! I'm paranoid about my head-checks (they're called life-savers for a good reason!)
A rough way to post, but welcome anyhows and I know you will be a safer, better rider for the future! Just keep learning and putting into practice all the good skills you can! :scooter:

Welcome.
Sounds like the car will be the most expensive thing to fix, if you don’t mind going with a cracked front guard for a while. I had my front lever snapped for me, and got a GSXR W one as a replacement, seemed to improve brakes, but probably a placebo effect.
Unfortunate, but lessons learnt. Good luck with the repairs. Ha you could just go for the bling and carbon fibre stuff!

Welcome, what a hard way to introduce yourself, but it seems like you have learnt the lesson, I am sure it is a mistake you won't repeat:yes:
See if you can find a mentor to help you along, or read BuckBucks thread below, it is a very good breakdown on getting started:scooter:

I don't know if they teach it in this country, but the headcheck is called a "lifesaver" for a reason.....
Glad you are ok, that could've been a lot worse. Welcome to the site!

Hey idontknow... well - you're safely in the majority in respect of hitting (or being hit by) a car, and as others have said - glad you came out all right.
Welcome to KB too - a fine choice and a (remarkably) large group of people of all walks, riding everything you can imagine, and possibly then some.

Welcome to the site Idontknow, and glad to hear you are ok. There are a lot of things to think about when you start out riding, some of which become automatic with experience.
Remember, if you dont head check you need your head checked!
Incidentally, you will fail your restricted and full license tests if you dont head check.
Seeya out there.

An admission of guilt and a drop in your first post!
Had you included a picture of a scantly clad nubile young twenty something female your post would have been perfect in every way.
Well done! And Welcome.

Buggar and welcome.
Am still waiting for my first bin. Am prepared for it, but would be most appreciative if someone would do it for me.

Having a closer look at the guard now I might just leave it for a while. The scuff marks will polish out and it's just a small crack.
Thanks for the friendly welcome and for not rubbing my stupidity in too much  Will have to practice a bit more over xmas. Apart from the accident I'm quite happy with my progress. Never ridden before I got the bike and I'm doing okay. Need to practice changing down as its a bit iffy and a bit more confident at turning, and a lot of other things

The ACC bikes website is well worth a look for a rider starting out.

Definitely recommend trying to hook up with a reputable mentor of some description. It's quite important to learn good/correct techniques and defensive riding strategies from the outset of your riding career. What you don't know can and will kill you.
The other useful attitude that I believe new (and all) riders can adopt is that we never stop learning. If a rider reaches a point where they can genuinely say: there's nothing more I can learn about riding motorcycles, then they're probably wrong firstly and secondly a fool.
Have fun and take care.

Contrary to what you may think, it is not necessary to bin your bike to join KB.
Welcome anyway, don't do it again.
