View Full Version : Ginny oil filter bolts

hmmm... i snapped one of my oil filter cover bolts because i wasnt payin attention, anyway, i went to colemans to get a new one...

the oil filter cover has (had) three bolts that look pretty much identicall to crank case cover bolts (short ones) the dude at colemans told me that it uses a stud and nut instead... huh? anyway, $3 for the stud and $12 for the 6mm thread nut! all due respect but i aint gonna pay that... Can i just go and pick up a 6mm thread bolt from "the bolt store" thats the correct length and use that?

p.s: if someone has a ginny250 oil filter bolt laying around im willing to give you a coke and a smile for it :)

Any old bolt the same length as the old one will work. Cut a longer one down to size if you need to. Stainless cap screws would look good.

or you can make a dodgy stud by chopping the head off a bolt and using the thread as the stud. Put some threadlock on the end that goes into the crankcase to stop it unwinding when you next take the nut off.

A stud and nut is a common modification,then you don't constanly work a bolt in and out of the cover.Find a stud and nut somewhere else or pay their price.

Option C buy the Studs at $3 per then go to the bolt shop and get some nuts and washers

went and did just that...
hm, the chromed suzuki OEM nut is $12 but a purple anodized locknut at colemans is $7... lol

ill head down to placemakers and pick up a nut later today...

dendenAren't they capped nuts on the GN filter cover? They are there for a reason-protect the stub threads from being exposed to the elements. Locknuts don't do this. Being anodised it would be aluminium as well.

meh, could be worse.

i bought the stud and a blue locknut from colemans... turns out its TWO dollars, not seven. im just blind...
