I saw a picture of this a while ago and wondered when we'll be seeing them here. Looks like this is the first (that I've noticed) to be imported here. Hopefully more will come in, they look pretty cool

The fuck for?Because that RGV.. Sounds like fun.

I mean, most (Most folks! Keep ya hats on..) of the other 2 stroke 250s on tardme are worn out junk piles with dated looks.

That on the other hand looks fresh and should still be in one piece.

I mean.. JUST LOOK AT THAT SWINGARM.. Ohh.. Hottt...

I should certainly like it if the price were more modest. I wonder what the availability of parts would be though.

Yea but why?

You've got a RVF400 and GSXR750. Why sit bored on one of those? Let some other poor college student learner get it.

The last of them VJ23, Noice, very noice

(Mr Waylander , have you ever actually ridden a high performance two smoker? College student learner indeed. )

No I havn't but the ones I've seen riden (250 and below) Just looked slow and annoying.

And sound too much like my lawn mower for me to take seriously.

Slow, in the right hands they certainly are not. On the right roads they would see off almost any 600, and a lot of 750 sprotsbikes

('nother better piccy of the 23)

Just a shame most of the more capable hands ride IL4s aye?

I'll stick with 4 strokes myself mate.

waylander, i'd put money on it smoking your vmax in every race apart from a drag at the lights :nya:

The 23, if anyone is interested, has a completely new engine, quite different to the 22 (which is what the Aprilia has). About the same peak power (they speak of 70hp, YMMV), but much more midrange, and accordingly it is a much faster bike over the ground than the 22. Ram air induction, and an electric starter.

19th December 2006, 22:01
I agree, IL4's are better bikes Waylander. But saying that the RGV250 is slow is foolish. The first time I ever raced at Taupo. It was AMCC round 5 or 6 earlier this year, and the F3 class was taken out by one Paul Buckley on an RGV250, he beat all the SV650's and ZXR400's. They will be well quicker than any cruiser that for sure. Maybe not top speed, but definitely on the launch, in the corners and on the brakes... in other words, where it counts.

Uphill on the Kaimais I doubt. But then I have an unfair advantage there as I know the road VERY well.

Sigh... if only I could ride well enough to justify such a machine.

One day!

I think Smith's has one but not sure. I'll do some checking, or you can PM some of the other Tauranga KBers to do it if you don't think I'll actualy look around. Come over on a thursday so we can go to the pub afterwards.

I know of another one, it was/is in Dannevirke Suzuki. Very, very nice machine.
Waylander, you are dreaming if you think you could beat a well ridden one of these over the kaimais on a Vmax.

You've got a RVF400 and GSXR750. Why sit bored on one of those? Let some other poor college student learner get it.I don't think I'd be bored at all. It should run rings around the RVF. And a learner would break their face. Well, maybe not, but there is a higher chance. I can't afford it.

Lend me some money. Interest free. And 30 years to pay you back.

They have more information on there since I last looked. The Lucky Strike and Red versions look pretty trick too

Warning to anyone wanting to buy that bike, it might be restricted to 40hp

I don't care how fast it really is or who it could / can't beat but a high performance 2 stroke has to be in anyones dream collection. They are just so light and FUN and when they get on song only a complete misery guts could fail to laugh out loud - they feel FAST and MANIC... Glorious....

Paul N

Waylander - just a little tip - never ever get into any kind of race with people that own these kinds of bikes - they tend to be - um - 'special'....... and a good lateish 2 stroke sports bike is a LOT faster than you may think.

Hmm yummy, my 250 RGV (1990) is starting look a little dated.

And to whoever that 2-stroke hater was, they kick ass man, just gotta hold on tight if you're a little scared of the powerband (don't worry, it's normal to be intimidated...)

Hmm. Well for starters he has rear sets. Mine doesn't get that kind of clearance. Also probably has racetec or progressive springs in the front and upgraded shocks on the rear with a better tyre. Cerainly has a new tyre on the front. Give me a grand to do all that to my bike and I probably could.

I'm pretty close though, Just need to move my ass off the seat a bit more. Keep working on it but there are only so many corners and roundabouts between home and work....

Haha ladies good to see all you people know what a 2 stroke 250 is capable of !!
All the employees at dealerships certainly are and are more interested in them than your latemodel 600's/1000's
Most people who own rs250s tend to be alot older than me (im 20)
I know various people that have gone from R1's and gixxer 750's to 2 stroke 250's ...Yes in the right hands they will prevail !!!
My one is in my profile pic (fully painted by me and the seat unit is carbon fibre that I made, aftermarket rearsets.. I love my bike.

The thing is, they just feel fast. I rode a 125cc two stroke scooter recently... wasn't going very quick, at least not the pace I normally go on my bike, and I don't think it was quite as powerful either (but close enough), but faarrrkk... I felt like a MotoGP rider hahah. The KR150 I rode had an even stronger effect on me. Then again, my bike is a fairly relaxed thumper, but small strokers feel so frantic. An RS250 or RGV250 is right up there on my `one day...' list.

After new years my VJ21 will be ready to meet the world, itll just need a bit of vynil but full fairing and a good condition engine and its all good. If you come up to aucks you can borrow it, if you want.

Waylander, get over yourself dude. Your bikes good in a straight line and up a hill.. the RGV is purely designed for racing in mind, so it corners and brakes (oh those brakes ) bloody well..

On a different note, the VJ23 got over the powervalve problem the 22 and 21 suffered badly from right? man... electric start.. what a luxary! Man, what a georgous bike..

The rs250 you are referring to is the final version (they stopped making them)
The 2003 model. That bike is fucking nice, in perfect condition but they are asking a lot of money for it, 12 - I got mine for 8.
Cyclespot Honda 2 buildings over has a new rs250, 2000 model - Identical to mine except I have aftermarket rearsets and I painted / made carbon / had stickers made
I think they are asking 9 for it.. maybe you could get it for 8 with cash.

As for the Rs being soft ! Ive ridden a mates vj22, they are choice bikes but the rs just has that little bit more - as well as offering fully adjustable suspension - brembo brakes and lighter wheels as well as digital dash !
the rs is an rgv engine but with its own intake/exhaust as well as a different power delivery...
I love my rs but am ready to move onto a zx6r..
Cant do that till Ive paid the fucking rs off
If I had to own another 250 other than the rs it would be the MC28 Honda NSR pictured before - swipe card model - fucking cool bikes.

Yeha, 12k is a bit steap eh!, I didnt mean the bike was soft! haha I was refering to the styling of it.. Ive always been a sucker for the older (early 90's) looking bikes. Also the VJ22 is in a more realistic price range for me! Its been hard enough getting the VJ21 on the road being a broke ass student..

Whats the history with your rs'? havnt you gone through 2 or something? I remember reading your posts on it but the memory fails me in my old age.
